It was beautiful...had a lot of atmospheric things going on...but I can't say it was a good or bad movie...it just is. I guess my biggest issue is it doesn't quite fit into the Alien universe. It's like a puzzle piece that looks like it should fit, but doesn't quite line up. 1. Space Jockey/Engineer too small. In "Alien" the Space Jockey is HUGE...even if you say the mechanism that he sits in gives more bulk...it doesn't give THAT much more bulk. From the first movie the size of the Alien in relation to the crew makes it seem like it's at least the size of the Na'vi (15-20 feet)In this movie he looks to be barely cracking 10 feet. 2.So, did the Space Jockey after having a Deacon Xenomorph explode from his chest, walk (crawl) back over to the wrecked spaceship, sit in the "captain's/navigator" chair, rip open the suit to match the hole in his chest? And if not...which Space Jockey is in the chair when the Nostromo crew happen across the same spaceship? As for some inconsistencies and questions.... 1. How is the "Goo of Life and Death" is able to seep out of the jars? As I recall, David opened one of the jars and had to snap open the glass bottle to extract the Goo, that he poisoned the Douchebag Boyfriend's drink with. Why is it later the Goo is seeping out everywhere...did the glass degrade? Can the GOLAD change the cell structure of an inanimate object like glass? I thought it could only reprogram living structures? 2. I'm going to be generous and say that a person who studies ancient cultures might also have time to have a bio-medical/doctor's degree...but if you are well versed in a lab dealing with biological life forms, known or in this case unknown, wouldn't you use masks or gloves when handling said unknown forms? Maybe you don't care about your safety, but what about your possible contamination of the material you're handling? The Ending... 1. You awaken one of the "Creators of Life" who then proceeds to take everyone's life, like an angry parent shouting, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it". You escape it's wrath, not once but twice. You then decide you're going to fly to a planet filled with said creatures to ask them, "why?" 2. Ignoring the fact of being able to fly an alien ancient space craft with the ease of riding a bike, what about stasis?..while our DNA is a match it's obviously not an exact match (despite the markers matching in the graphic)..otherwise the experiment in the lab wouldn't have gone horribly wrong...also the size of the beings are different. So,that means no cryo sleep for Elizabeth...then what shall she eat or drink for the years or (being generous) months of space travel? 3. Along those lines, let's say the robot can rig up the cryo sleep to accommodate one human woman...who rigged up the robot? I mean along with the bio-medical/anthropologist degree did she also pick up a degree in synthetic bio-mechanical engineering as well? I'm sure I could talk about other things that honestly can be explained away with three words, "horror movie contrivance" The reason people are talking about stupid behaviors of the characters is because it is expected of a typical slasher movie...which is something the Alien's universe has never been, until now. In the first Alien, the folks did stupid things in that movie because they were just simply miners...out doing a job...they were caught unaware... Aliens...they were grunt military types, just following orders and not taking the time to ask questions. Aliens 3 castoffs no one cared about anymore given they were considered irredeemable by society, thus no one cared if they lived or died. Aliens 4 I'll just leave that one out of the discussion. AVP and AVP2...once again...no comment. This one...everyone is too smart for their own good they're scientists, obviously multiple degrees (especially in the case of Elizabeth) and yet, they're making rookie mistakes that only work in a movie filled with half wits. I half expected Freddy or Jason to make an appearance. But like I said, it kinda fits, but not quite....and he does make a beautiful looking movie...I was never bored watching it...but I just wasn't excited either. Maybe I would've liked the ending more if Elizabeth was going to take a cargo hold of GOLAD back to the Space Jockey's home planet, versus going to ask, "Why don't you like us?"

On the fence too after seeing it. I felt, empty.. I can't explain the feeling.. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it.

As to point one; you are correct the scale is wrong. Giger's Space Jockey was enormous compared to the ones in Prometheus. I also don't see any indication of legs in Giger's design. he said he didn't want viewers to be able to tell were the creature ended and the navigation instrument began. I do not think that Giger intended the exterior seen by the Nostromo crew to be a suit, but rather fossilized remains of a biomechanoid creature/machine. As to point two; since there are many Space Jockeys seen dead in Prometheus, it is safe to assume that there are others elsewhere, relieving the necessity of this one being the same that is on the derelict on LV426. Black Stuff Concern; I do not think that every ampule was leaking. Remember that David walks through what appears to be an armory of them, none of which seem to be leaking. Perhaps only some of them are programmed to leak when in the presence of living organisms, which would explain why the urn didn't open on David and the ones close to the rest of the crew opened. Contamination Concern; I agree, I would expect that a thorough protocol would be in place (something like the labs in The Andromeda Strain) for any work done with biologicals. Ending Concerns; If any rational person were Shaw, they would stay far from the Engineers Home World. Go home Shaw. Remember from the film, Shaw was seen packing supplies from the Lifeboat into her bag, presumably some were rations.

a lot of peoples problems seem to be relating it to alien . its not a prequel and its not about xenomorphs.it also does not link into alien. its a new story set in the same universe . there will be a second and third movie . you got a mercedes instead of a bmw :)

@private problem; Not at all. I didn't even think of Alien when I watched it, rather I was thinking of 2001 and that movie bored me to death, which might explain a lot. Also, the soundtrack, it just didn't work right. Like I said, I didn't hate it, I just didn't like it.

Bearing in mind Scott lifted music, creature design, feeling, sets, characters and some elements of the script how does this film not relate to alien? The trailer was cut with the express purpose of making it look like alien. The point is, that if people wanted alien their expectations were the fault of the studio, pure and simple. What we got was actually an hour of contact and then an hour of AvP. Where was the distinct new mythology? All seemed a bit recycled to me.

@private problem Where is the OP discussion did she state that she was expecting Alien? I hate when that's the go-to response. NO ONE should have been expecting Alien because A) It's titled Prometheus and B) RS + Cast + Writers explicitly stated that the movie will NOT end with us understanding the nature of the Derelict on LV-426. So for anyone that was paying attention to the interviews or this forum, they should have at least picked up that bit of information. What we WERE expecting was a smart movie, not an illogical and cliche movie painted beautifully to look smart. @Miss Malevolent I have had the same questions too. 1. The size issue is neither here nor there for me. I realize how odd it seems but think about this... considering the size of them in Alien, think about the scale of the hallway in Alien... the Space Jockey could NOT stand up in there. So THAT seems to be an error in Alien. Prometheus just fixed it I suppose. I'm OK with allowing for a size adjustment. No huge deal to me, but again that's just me. 2. The ship on LV-426 and the ship on LV-233 are different. No connections. 3. The goo seeping out of the jars was quite strange given that we discover how it's contained... I would call this a major detail oversight. It also didn't take very long for the temperature to drop enough to allow the oozing to start occurring. Everything just happened at light speed in this film. 4. Eh... they scanned the things for contaminants first. No need for masks. I still am baffled that they thought it was a good idea to remove their helmets. There are so many other reasons to KEEP THEM ON. 5. Her logic with wanting to go have a little chat with her new found enemies is really dumb... One would think they would kill on sight. ESPECIALLY if you STOLE one of their military bombers... 6. I agree with everything you have said here. It's ridiculous that she thinks she can survive the flight to the homeworld. Her logic here is absolutely absurd in so many ways. She should have been more concerned with DESTROYING THE ALIEN BASE, so that NO ONE ELSE could ever stumble across it. 7. Eh, it's all within the same logic as above (as in there isn't any) Lastly, I agree that the characterization in this movie was really clumsy and cliche and not within the same type of relate-able realism that has been in the other Alien movies. Ridley did such a good job at creating a film where everyone acted genuinely and logically for the situation... in Prometheus the crew (for seemingly needing to be vastly intelligent) made some really illogical decisions. I was not convinced at all.

Thanks, dsjohnson84 you summed it up nicely for me.
