MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 4:52 AMJust pointing out that the various screams we hear throughout the trailers might be some of the best heard in modern cinema. I mean, between the actors, the sound and foley artists, the screams all seem to be unique and made with care. Rapace seems to be a gifted screamer. The end of these spots and trailers--that lady can bring the horror. But the men too--just crazy inspired stuff.
Or maybe it's just the case that we don't get many films of this type (the type where people scream in terror) being made with this caliber of talent/budget. If that is the case, it's just one more thing that contributes heavily to the impact of this film.
The score is still a curiosity, but I think we can only hope that these trailers are offering a hint. The dissonant choral recording can only add to what is already shaping up as a great sound experience.
Oh, and the random SFX--so cool.

If Noomi Rapace is a gifted screamer, I'd like to put that to the test, in person ;-P I'd have to, y'know, make sure she was the real deal and all. Wouldn't be screams of horror either.......... (I hope anyways :-P)
And now I go back to my virgin goat sacrificing :-D
I'm lost now. I blame Belladonna :-D

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 5:33 AMp.s. on a non perverted note:
i was pleased with the screams myself being a HUGE B-movie fan. hearing a high pitched teenage girl stock scream gets really old really fast.
these sounds actually sound like people who are scared and in pain but without busting my ear drums.
i never had that high pitched horror movie scream even when i was a kid, nice to hear some realistic human sound effects for once.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 5:50 AMIt's a scream that grabs you, that's for sure. After that scream, then seeing Noomi looking up at the ship, then seeing the ship hitting the ground from above I knew I would love every moment of this movie. When I finally get to see it that is :-D
And yes @Otto, I am. Very much so.
Blame Belladonna. :-P works for me :-D
Lucky I beat her to the punch this time. I'm sure she would have had more to say about screaming ;-P
Her and I think alike :-D

Those high pitched teenage girl screams go through me like a knife. It is as bad for me as dragging fingernails across a chawk board. It would be cool if they could be duplicated in a movie theater sound system.
I wonder if you added controlled feedback to the sound system if the screech could be optimized. This kind of feedback might be doable with some digital signal processing.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 12:52 PMHa! I wrote that line about Rapace's gift in the OP, knowing full well that it could be taken a few ways. You guys don't disappoint! Maybe Noomi gets in a lot of practice? --Although, not sure what her neighbors are thinking when she screams, "DIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!"
As stated, this sound mix is a huge part of why the trailers work so well. Very visceral. Just another reason why the film demands the big theater experience.

MemberOvomorphApr-30-2012 11:14 PMIs this one of those posts where screams is actually code for naked breasts, and where all time is actually code for in Return of the Living Dead? Because, yeah, no doubt about that.
