I could be posting pictures of ALF holding up stone slates with pictograms or Lady Gaga with just another plastic head… does that make "possible" concepts to you?
Pretty much everything inspired by gigers organic designs could be another concepts so why even bother… when the answer itself lies in the original alien mural created back in 1979.
I guess the really best part of prometheus will be: no freaking new creation. something smart. not hilarious.
we've seen it all and look what neville page brought us with the cloverfield monster: something unbelievable, something ugly, something boring. the only reason it was such a popular item of discussion was: you didn't see it.
I hope scott is going for monsters in the unseen, too.

I love paintings of the fantastic.
And especially landscapes of alien worlds!
Wether or not RS was inspired by such...we'll see.

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 12:54 PMThe Alien and Prometheus stories contains elements which can be called 'Lovecraftian' i.e. traces of ancient civilizations found on earth depicting a race of 'gods' that were responsible for our beginings and threaten our demise. O'Bannon was a fan of H.P. Lovecraft.
I've posted this before but I am hoping that the success of Prometheus will help greenlight Guillermo Del Toro's epic project 'At the Mountains of Madness'. As usual I hope for the best and expect the worst.

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 1:27 PMIt would be almost impossible not use Lovecraft's ideas writing a monster/sci-fi film today. Before him there were basically only ghosts, werewolves, and vampires. He invented the concept of interstellar horror and introduced the tentacle into the horror genre. Countless books, stories, and movies basically appropriate his ideas.
If you are going to read At the Mountains of Madness, I would recommend reading The Shadow Out of Time first, unless you don't really want to know how or why what they find in Mountains is there. Think of Mountains as Alien and Shadow as Prometheus. The explanation/story in Shadow is really, really complex and original though, so read that one too.
Just my opinion.

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 5:43 PMH.R Giger has allowed Lovecraft to inform him.
As has anyone with an interest in the truly arcane and, [whisper it], "gothic"....
Including one Mr. Scott.
Beg to advise: this is not the kind of news you can interest Reuters in.
