MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 7:57 PMI really really dislike how linear it is. Press this button to push off alien, place turret exactly here, walk down this hallway and be sure to slide under this door because if you fail you are required to start over rather than just finding another route.
I'm sorry but I feel like these guys are trying to make a movie rather than a game. Give the players a full facility to navigate so they can create their own routes and weld their own doors. An Aliens game needs to be less like Battlefield 3 and more like a first person shooter version of Batman Arkham city.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 8:59 PMAgreed on the linearity complaint. Everything looks heavily scripted with quicktime events and all the rest of that console bullshit. Seems like they are really trying to nail the atmosphere and flow of the movie at the expense of gameplay.

MemberOvomorphApr-05-2012 12:21 AMI agree with you goodkat. Also, it needs to be challenging. The Aliens are living, breathing entities that outnumber you, and you're never sure when the queen is sending either a few drones for recon, or summoning the warrior aliens for full frontal assault....I also hope it doesnt fall into QTE either. Because lets face it, if you're face to face with a Xeno, before your thought finishes to ready your pistol or rifle, you're already gonna have a set of jaws making your brain see the light of day. You know, do shit like recreate the suspense of when Newt and Ripley are sleeping, she opens her eyes and comes to the realization that there's a pair of facehuggers in there, and she's got no gun to attack it with, and the the colonial marines are seemingly light years away. But that's just me.

MemberOvomorphApr-05-2012 12:35 AMI played the demo on PSN a few months back. Wasn't moved by it. Modern era, linear FPS with Aliens skin. And it was already done better in AvP2.
An Aliens game needs level design like Rainbow Six:Raven Shield or SWAT 4. Those games had tons of entry ways and doors, so you always had to watch your back and be very methodical going from room to room. You could be setting up to clear one room, and a guy might pop out of a door across the hallway and kill two of your squadmates (although in SWAT 4 you could use wedges to keep doors from being opened). Perfect environment for xenos to stalk and ambush you.
Anyway, I better stop before I launch one of my current generation video game rants.

MemberOvomorphApr-05-2012 10:51 AMI knew the newer AVP wasnt gonna leave a mark on me like the others did. For christ's sake you cant even play as a Facehugger.

MemberOvomorphApr-05-2012 10:54 AMi have always felt the one thing that every Alien game did not have that it needed was just THE OPTION FOR 3RD PERSON. It Just perplexes me completely that it has never been even attempted, just including the frikkin' option for it.

MemberOvomorphApr-05-2012 5:10 PM@Spartacus: I think companies felt that it would be scarier to keep it 1st person, just for shock factor.
