MemberOvomorphJun-24-2012 4:46 AMInteresting, isn´t it? I hope all these self-accalimed movie-critics and experts out there and in here read this...

MemberOvomorphJun-24-2012 5:31 AMSome of the elements in the plot might be more suited to a book.
In books we deliberately seek to be engaged. In a cinema, we MAY seek to be engaged, or we may sit back and expect to be entertained, with little effort from our own brains.
Prometheus still has some flaws, but some of it might be due to pandering to the audience (overdoing the foreshadowing in some cases.)
But as a plot to think about, it's very engaging, as evidence by over 10,000 users on this site alone (and there are other sites)

MemberOvomorphJun-24-2012 5:58 AMAwesome! I've been beating the "same kind of reviews as Alien and Blade Runner" drum for a while but never thought to do this. Kudos to the writer of the article and thank you for posting it, oduodu!

MemberOvomorphJun-24-2012 6:19 AMI have to quote this from the article as it put a big, fat smile on my face...
[i][b]"The film’s co-writer Damon Lindelof, for example, has been carpet-bombed with indignant messages on Twitter, although in fairness, these are no more bone-headed than 99 percent of everything else said on the social networking site. Significantly more tedious is the way the film's detractors have confused low-level nit-picks and intentionally vague plotting for fatal flaws in Scott's craft.
"Yeah! Take that, Sir Ridley Scott!" seems to be the gist. "If you’re so smart, with your conceptually audacious two-hour epic about mankind questing beyond the stars in search of a face-to-face encounter with the divine, how come Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace don’t run sideways to get out of the way of that crashing spaceship?"
How come? Who cares? Having now seen Prometheus twice (and enjoyed it even more the second time than I did the first) I can confirm that the fact neither Theron nor Rapace thinks to run sideways during an action sequence predicated on them running forwards does not render the film worthless – and anyone who finds themselves getting worked up about it is making some fairly basic mistakes about how to enjoy blockbuster cinema."

While I do love to discuss and break down the film my initial posts after seing the film were things like "It's a movie...let yourself go for 2 hours" and things of that sort. I've always felt this is a film that can be interpreted many ways and theorized about or can simply be enjoyed as a popcorn flick without thinking about it at all. I don't understand why the best of both worlds can't be enjoyed by both sides.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphJun-24-2012 6:22 AMThe original is the reviews of Alien from '79. However, I have watched Alien well over 200 times I reckon, and I know my initial impression of it hasn't changed over the 20 odd years since I saw it the first time. It was scary, creepy, and fun to think about. I've seen this 4 times in the last 3 weeks and I'm still not sure what to make of it......... Hope I can change that, but I'm not holding my breath in all honesty.

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

MemberOvomorphJun-24-2012 4:58 PM@Cypher...... Like Engineering said at least your giving it a chance and watched it multiple times. I can't tell you how much of my friends didn't like it and won't give it a chance and watch it again to try to understand the "plot holes". I will even admit I didn't think it was that great the first time. I even complained about "plot holes" and I was disappointed that it wasn't a true prequel and it wasn't the same engineer and ship on lv 246. But now after watching it two more times I have caught some things that I didn't the first time that explains some of the things that people have been complaining about. I have also ended up being happy that the movie was not so tied to alien and enjoy the new stuff.
