The Derelict ship could just be launching from the surface, much like Shuttles launch from Earth in an upright position. . . Either way, surely the Prometheus ship would be dwarfed by it?? Any thoughts??

i dont think the "derelict" ship is fliyng in upright position ...to me is just the position of the camera 3/4 down ...and is also difficult to perceive the exact size of both ships , one is so close...the other so far away ...

After watching the new clip it look like the Prometheus is huge itself. Certainly a lot bigger than I first thought.

New clip it seems to be in an upright possition. But still hard to tell.

It is indeed in an upright position. Why?. Simply because we can clearly see in the regular trailer, that the ship not only falls to the ground in that same position, but also GETS hit (very likely rammed by the prometheus) in an upright position. The escape pod being released from the prometheus in today's teaser trailer indicates that it's gonna be used to destroy the alien spacecraft. Besides, the prometheus itself takes off vertically, so how in the world would it be in that vertical position looking to the derelict from below?,

There's still not enough visual evidence to say definitively whether it can fly vertically or not. I don't know why it matters either way, but whatever....

The Prometheus/Magellan is like the Osprey ..only the engines go vertically , the ship itself is not in vertical position .... The scene of the hit dont tell much if the derelict was horizontal or vertical ... ( to me was horizontal ) ...OF COURSE can be that the derelict take off and land in vertical position but im pretty sure that dont fly in upright position cos will be ridicolous . the Prometheus is not a little ship btw ..it have an enormous hangar ..thinking about Alien i would say that the prometheus is about the half of a SJs ship

Maybe the spacejockey chair platform is on a gimbal that allows it to swivel allowing the pilot to be upright facing out the skylight. Maybe the derelict is not flying but doing something else in the air, possibly spinning for some reason?
After watching the new clip it look like the Prometheus is huge itself. Certainly a lot bigger than I first thought.
That's interesting! I had the exact opposite feeling, the Prometheus being much smaller than I imagined! :D
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

I agree that the derelict looks to be flying in an upright position. What I don't get is if thats the case then wouldn't the Alien eggs from the first film be on the wall?

All the interior aspects (passegeways, space jockey chair, etc..) of the derelict indicate that it's made to operate and be occupied in a horizontal position. I was kind of shocked in the first trailer to see it sitting on the ground in a vertical position, but it's hard to tell what's going on in the few seconds' view of it there was , could be it had just impacted/come to rest on the surface and this was the "OH SHIT" moment before Shaw realized it was about to topple over and decided it was a good time to haul ass.

you should see the position I was in...when I was playing naked twister with the Space Jockey's sister...

Like the Gimble idea Biomechanic. Indeed the eggs would be on the wall.... Perhaps the eggs werent on the derelict before it crashed. Perhaps the derelic we see in the trailer/s are not the derelict from Alien...... Perhaps what we thought was inside the derelic in Alien was actually a subterainium building...... Getting more excited. Did anyone notice the power suit/loader ?
