In recent years Japanese horror movies have proved very popular with western audiences. So popular in fact that Hollywood remade the movies for western audiences too lazy to read the subtitles while watching the Japanese originals. The two most prolific of these Japanese chillers were Ringu and Ju-on, or as they are known to western audiences The Ring and The Grudge.
Sadako
The American remakes of these movies, along with the Japanese originals spread a new form of horror across the world. No longer were you scared of the big, slowly walking man holding a knife or a machete, now you were frozen to the bone at the sight of a mangled, twisted ghost of a Japanese girl. So successful has this new form of horror become that it has bled into other forms of media and entertainment, directly inspiring videogame developer Monoliths antagonist Alma from their F.E.A.R. series of games.
Kayako
If you are a fan of The Ring and The Grudge then you will be ecstatic to hear that Japanese entertainment company Kadokawa have announced a new movie called Sadako vs Kayako. If this means nothing to you Sadako was the antagonist in The Ring and Kayako was the antagonist in the Grudge - in other words the ghost girls from the deadly videotape and the derelict house are to face off against each other. Better yet there is even a trailer...
Sadako vs Kayako will be directed by K?ji Shiraishi and will star Mizuki Yamamoto as a character named Y?ri Kurahashi, whom finds herself unfortunate enough to be caught between the two deadly spirits.
Previously marketing for the latest instalment in the Ju-on series, Ju-on: Final, posted an Aprils fools day announcment of a Sadako vs Kayako movie, obviously someone at Kadokawa thought it was a good idea and has made it a reailty. This monumental movie will be released in Japanese theatres, June 2016.
