The script and budget for Pacific Rim 2 (dubbed Maelstrom) have been sent in to Legendary and Universal according to none other than the director himself, Guillermo del Toro! Though the studios have yet to announce the green light on the film's production, Del Toro remains hopeful the sequel to his 2013 mecha-blockbuster will get the attention it deserves.
PACIFIC RIM 2: Budget and script went in. No answers yet. If anything happens, I will post. If nothing happens, I will just keep rambling.

Since Legendary left Warner Brothers and are now partnered with Universal Studios, Universal will be handling the distribution of Pacific Rim 2 when it finally gets a release date. The studio recently announced via press release that the sequel to Pacific Rim would be delayed following a previously confirmed release date in August 2017. However the studio made sure to reassure fans that the delay was only to give Del Toro and his creative team ample time to create the groundwork needed to ensure Pacific Rim 2's success.
With Universal and Warner Brothers teaming up for Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020, many of us wonder if Del Toro's highly anticipated Pacific Rim sequel will be set on the back burner indefinitely. Hopefully not, but until we hear official confirmation from the studios and/or Del Toro himself, the fate of Pacific Rim 2 'Maelstrom' has yet to be sealed.
