The follow up to Kamen Rider Gaim has been announced and a wealth of information revealed.
Kamen Rider Drive will feature newcomer Ryoma Takeuchi as Shinnosuke Tomari. Tomari will use the Drive Driver to transform into Kamen Rider Drive. He will have various forms, known as “types” and drives the super vehicle known as Trideron.
Tomari is part of a special task force at the Tokyo Metro Police Department created to fight the Roimyuudo. The Roimyuudo are androids who wish take control of humanity in order to become human.
Producer Takahito Omori, responsible for the brilliant Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, will team up with Kamen Rider Gaim director Ryuta Tasaki for the series. Said to run for 25 episodes, the series will be written by Riku Sanjo (Kamen Rider W) and Ultraman series veteran Keiichi Hasegawa. Their episodes will be stand alone, crime-of-the-week stories.
I for one find everything revealed far more appealing than Kamen Rider Gaim. Although director Tasaki isn't my first choice for the series, the rest of the crew seems prime for a very different take in comparison to Gaim. I like the new-crime-a-week take and the presentation of the main character exudes a Doctor Who-esque charisma. Best of luck to the talented crew.
Take a look at the video below for the first footage of Tomari as Kamen Rider Drive and the Trideron:
The theme song is called SURPRISE-DRIVE, by Kamen Rider Eternal's Mitsuru Matsuoka.
Kamen Rider Drive will premeire October 5th.
