If there is one thing that seperates us from our ancestors and cousins, the apes, is our ability to wage war upon each other for the most inconsequential of reasons - be it differing religious beliefs, stake of ownership on a piece of land, or in retaliation to an attack, be that attack provoked or nay. The human races unique ability to slaughter itself has, for what seems time eternal, been seen by the more philosophical among us as our achilles heel; the inevitability that will lead to our downfall, and which we continue to ignore.
