MemberMothra LarvaeMay-20-2014 11:18 AMWhat a wasted opportunity to showcase our current military might (stealth aircraft, Navy c-whiz, even 5-52 drops, etc.) on G and the MUTOs. All we had were a few stray cruise missles in the bay, soldiers shooting rifles (lol), a heliicopter's 50-cal (for about 5 seconds)...what else? This movie missed having one or two scences showing the military using it's weapony in all it's splendor. Yah-yah yah, the MUTO's had EMP, but G didnt, and what about the original War of the Words, or even Indepenence Day, where the weapons were stopped by the electronic blister or force field, only adding to the military's frustration. I think that would have been a nice addition to an already great movie, possibly putting it over the top. While we are on this subject, anyone else hear of a scene with A-10s attacking G or the MUTOs that was deleted? I read that in one of the hundreds of articles read leading to the movie's release. That would have cool, kind of like Terminaor Salvation. Anyway, hope the sequel shows the military blasting the crap out of something for cryong out loud!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-20-2014 11:33 AMIt'd look good aye but it woldn't really fit with what had already been established: They tried to nuke Godzilla to death multiple times in the 50s and 60s as pointed out by Serizawa and it failed. So as soon as Godzilla arrives they likely know there's no point even attacking him with the intention of killing him, but instead attacking him with the intention of guiding him (like the Golden Gate bridge sequence - there were still civilians on the bridge, so rather than having Godzilla lumber straight through it and cause untold death / chaos / broken bridges they could guide him around / away).
That's my spin on it all, anyway. However for the sequel, if something new rocks up then a full-scale heavy assault would not be amiss methinks!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-20-2014 1:28 PMThe original statement is correct. In particular, the MOP bomb would have undoubtedly been used at some point along with BLU-82s, GMLRS, Unitary ATACMS, Tomahawks etc. CWIS wouldn't have been preferred nor nearly as damaging as those others. I read that Mavericks were used but didn't see any that I can remember--those pack a big punch too; much more than a Hellfire--and I didn't see any of those either. Heck we had a Navy Aircraft carrier (granted, one that in reality has been decommisisioned for 20 years and was just recently designated for scrap) -- so where were the Super Hornets, SLAM-ER, SDBs and all of their goodies? Yep, lots, and lots of things we didn't see.
My point was the same--it would have just made Godzilla seem much more effective and awesome to survive all of that.
Disagree we were trying to "guide" Godzilla--it was made clear we were trying to kill him there just like the MUTO...I see some vivid imaginiations here interpreting those sorts of "intentions" in the movie.
And course, killing MUTOs is where Something Real and I part ways ;-) ...I would have found a way to kill them along with dearest Mommy while they were till attached to her!...napalm? Yes!
