MemberBaragonFeb-26-2014 1:09 PMI have a bit of issues of the design. They keep changing the design! You might not like the opinion I have, but I am a bit concerned about it. Just a few moments ago, the Empire Godzilla cover was unveiled:
But then, take a look at the design leaked from the Brazil Expo:
My point is, I have a bad feeling about fan's negative reactions to the design. The way know they changed the design is because the brazil photo and the 1st teaser trailer scene where godzilla roars are exactly the same. In the main trailer, when Godzilla roars, the design looks a bit different than previous designs. They need to stick with appropriate designs or everyone will start to get confused and unsatisfied. I am a big Godzilla fan dont get me wrong, but I am just trying to think logically here. I cant really judge the design until I see the movie, but right now my opinion stands firm. If you have anything to comment about my opinion either in a positive or negative way, please feel free to comment about it below. Catch you guys later.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:14 PMWell to start, that bottom poster was a mood piece poster. It was never classified by WB or legendary that it was official. I do know I read a statement about this poster somewhere that was stated that this was made before the movie went into post-production. They changed a few details about Godzilla upon finishing

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:20 PMMmmmm, I think they are about the same, the only thing that changed was the slightly larger teeth and the color of the skin. But overall, they look the same.
It is interesting that the head of Godzilla resemple more like that of a Tyrannosaurus rex, which is broad in the cheeks and narrow in the muzzle. This is also observed in tigers and jaguars. This bring a stronger bite force for the predator.
Besides, the position of the body of Godzilla also resemble that of a huge Kodiak bear standing up.
Amazing, big G put together the best predators on himself. :o)

MemberBaragonFeb-26-2014 1:20 PMActually that was the design for the 1st teaser trailer. THey leaked the design in a poster. So the one from the teaser was the same design on the brazil poster.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:28 PMI like the design, and personally don't see a problem with the way things have gone.
The other thing about the poster is that it was created for a licensing expo, and merchendise related to films are not always true to the form of the final film product. Case in point is anything chibi or otherwise recreated for child protection purposes like the toy that was shown of Godzilla with the shorter and rounded spines despite what's in the trailer.
Godzilla's design in the trailer we just got is his final design, and it's no different than the Empire cover. If you look at the shot of Godzilla roaring at the end of the trailer, it's exactly like the Empire Cover. The poster and the 2012 trailer that was leaked were just rough drafts, if you will. The 2013 trailer we got in October was official, and I still consider it to be the first official trailer as it does feature movie footage and dialogue. It's not as epic, but it's an official trailer, not a teaser.
Now I'm not questioning your opinion, as everyone is entitled to their own, but I would like to ask you what your version of 'logic' is regarding this matter.
I'm not trying to be mean, but when I read through your described opinion it comes across as rushed and based more on your taste in what you think should be rather than what actually is. While it's normal to have tastes that shape your wishes and desires, creating an opinion based solely on that part of your own viewpoint is not really logical or relevant to the subject matter. You say you're thinking logically, but I don't see that happening at all. It sounds to me like you're jumping to conclusions based on a lack of thorough knowledge about what's going on.
Again, I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just stating what I'm seeing in your argument.
My ultimate point is that I don't mind the way Legendary has done things, and I love the design and see nothing wrong with the Empire Magazine cover or the trailer's designs. When I look at them, I see the same creature.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:29 PMThe teaser trailer was also a mood piece trailer. Did not expose any plot details nor final designs of the creature. They did change some things about him from when they put together the mood pieces till now
I think he looks badass, the official trailer is out now, I think his design is set in stone

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:29 PMBased on the head size and the small size of the teeth (in relation with its body), I can theorize that Godzilla will bite like the Komodo dragon, which have a cutting bite although with the capability of breaking bones, just like the large T. rex.

Well Sh**, Sorry if it wasnt a "PERFECT" topic, but it was something. I respect your statement about my logic, and I can understand how you think. And yes, it was a rushed topic. I had to do something important of the matter and had to finish what I could. Look at my previous topics, they are a lot more detailed than anything else I've done.

MemberBaragonFeb-26-2014 1:43 PMI'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this! It seems the design has done some serious morphing through out the trailers, the posters, and even the toys (as simplified as they may be.). The face in particular has dne some changing, but ithe designs are probably closer than it seems. The Empire cover and the Brazilian poster seem pretty different, but it might be a question of angle. The color has definitely changed though, from Godzilla's usual charcoal gray to a brownish color. This makes since though! Fun fact: the original Godzilla suit was actually brown! Ya can't tell, for obveous reasons, but it falls into the "this is the original Godzilla" thing that Legendary has been pushing!
No matter how much thedesign has changed, one thing is for sure... THIS IS GODZILLA!!!!!!!! :D

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:48 PMI think what we saw in the recent trailer is the final design, due to the fact that those were actual scenes from the movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:54 PMThey're the same, the difference is that the bottom Godzilla head is the head kids are gonna see on the toys and whatnot. It's the same Godzilla, their just making him look friendlier on the bottom.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 1:54 PMThe only thing I see that's different is the skin tone. I believe this is a hero shot of Godzilla locked in battle with the military maybe after a run in or two with the M.U.T.O. monsters where injuries have been sustained. After all they are selling a "Battle damaged" Godzilla toy you guys are really beginning to over analyze this stuff. Just be happy it's not Crapzilla from 98 and continue to be patient we're in the home stretch run now.

MemberBaragonFeb-26-2014 3:05 PMI am sorry for my selfish behavior displayed in this topic, guys. When I saw the Main Trailer, I was amazed at the design, then when empire displayed he full body figure, it just looked different than what the trailer displayed. So I realized that now, again I am sorry. Can't wait for the movie! XD

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 3:40 PMThis is a bit of an art history/cultural thing, but hear me out: the Japanese Godzillas always seemed to have a muzzle more like a mammal than ANY kind of lizard. A dog or lion comes to mind. It occurred to me some time ago that, in ancient Chinese/Japanese sculpture and art, lions, dogs and DRAGONS all seemed to be represented much the same, and were all 'noble' animals. That's why you'd see their statues at building entrances so often, like library lions.
And when I saw Godzilla's roaring profile at the end of the first trailer, a dog or lion was EXACTLY what it looked like to me, more than a lizard.
Well imagine my surprise when Gareth Edwards said in a recent interview, that they were going for something like a 'dog or bear', with some 'eagle' thrown in, for it's 'noble' look! I was just flabbergasted to hear this!
I think Mr. Edwards has really been studying up on his Eastern Art for this project! And this pretty well 'bears' out your 'kodiak' comment, doesn't it?

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 5:42 PMTo be honest, the one from the Brazil leak looks too childish. Glad they changed him up a bit. Looks like an eagle/bear/dog
godzillafan1995
MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 5:46 PMyeah that brazil leak didn't look like it was the final desgin, where as the one on the empre magazine does. and that godzilla look angry and ferocious, also i heard that godzilla's fighting techique is similar to a bear AND a kmodo dragon

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 7:12 PMI don't see how its a different design. you guys do realize that the 'brazil' Godzilla head is still used in many of the products they were demoing at Toyfair right? Its also all over party favors and stuff-- that is the official head. They haven't changed squat, it just looks different from a different angle.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 8:55 PM@ Akagi
Actually, the design has changed quite a bit. The skin tone, the teeth, and even the neck.
-Godzilla has this brownish, greyish skin color.
-His teeth don't stick out as much.
-And the plates and gills aren't as prominent as they are in the Brazil poster.
"Daddy's home- cake every night,"
Akagi
MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-26-2014 9:45 PM@ Danielle No it hasn't. It only seems that way.
-Godzilla on the cover of the magazine is being lit by flares, giving him a brownish hue to his skin. If you look at it close enough;hes gray-ish black
-His lip is curled up in the Brazil picture, giving the impression that his teeth are bigger and more prominent, in the magazine they are not. Its the same principal as when your dog curls his lip and starts growling at the mailman.
-The plates and gills only seem more prominent because its a close up. The magazine cover has godzilla at a distance.
Face it folks, the Brazil photo is part of the final design, or atleast the advertising angle. He didn't look brown at all in the trailer. You're just seeing him from different angles.
Want me to elaborate why? WELL.
For starters.
http://www.godzilla-movies.com/community/forums/topic/31380
Party favors are using that design.
http://www.godzilla-movies.com/news/1573
Lets not forget the Neca figure reveal, as you can see all these Godzilla products sporting that exact Godzilla head that was used in the Brazil picture.
This will be great when embargo lifts and everyone can see what my friends at toyfair saw-- that Brazil Godzilla head was EVERYWHERE. If it were a place holder, it wouldn't be plastered allover everything
Its the final design, just because it looks slightly different in action, or in full CGI as opposed to an illustration-- doesn't change that it is indeed it. Just because Godzilla looks a little more friendly from a down angle, with him looking up, doesn't mean he won't look a lot meaner if you're looking up at him.
