How exactly does it tie in with Alien?? Yes a creature burst from the Engineer, but on THAT ship in Alien, the "being" was sat in the chair piloting the ship it would seem, with a burst suit. Thoughts??

I think that Scott plays confusion here. He says that it is not related to Alien but the whole thing smells prequel all along. He makes the Space Jockey pilot position exactly the same as in Alien but then he decides to get him out of there... guess that it all comes down to him doesn't having a clue about financing the next possible movie and it just let it hang there for us geeks fill countless forums.

I'm just intrigued! :)

I don't think it was intended to end where Alien starts, supposedly Ridley Scott has confirmed that many of the questions were left open for a reason and he would like to do a sequel to Prometheus. Who knows dude, I guess they're different planets too, some of the previous threads discussed it.

Ridley Scott confirmed it's NOT the same planet. So the ship that was explored in alien is a completely different vessel. So in terms of it tying in with Alien....it doesn't really. That's clearly a proto-alien, but...but... This is the whole issue with this film. I almost have no words to describe why they did what they did. This is reminding me of The Thing remake....in which they nicked the best bits from the first film and made out that it happened BEFORE the John Carpenter version. Why pilfer great ideas? It only cheapens the original idea.

By all descriptions, it doesn't tie-in to Alien.... In a chronological sense.... Kind a weak

MemberTrilobiteJun-01-2012 4:32 PM
I'm guessing it links into Alien because.... its an Alien, as in THE Alien.

I did enjoy the film, alot BUT. . . It felt a bit like either 1) Prometheus isn't nearly as related to Alien as stated in a million interviews, as first lead on or 2) There was far too much story for one 2hour long film, so come the end we're left with too many new questions. I.e Why are Engineers so anti-human, when they created us in the first place and why introduce us the only good/creepy looking alien (at the end), just for it to finish. . .

That Alien did remotley resemble the Xenomorph, that obviously evolves somehow into the one we all know so well. Yet Lindelof has said IF a sequel happens, it'll divert even further from Alien then this film. Which means surely we'd get no closer to the origins of Xeno's/derelict from Alien. . .

Oh my god. Are my eyes really reading some of this? "Prometheus isn't nearly as related to Alien as stated in a million interviews" Interviews with who and what did they say? Funny but what was said in EVERY interview I read or whatched was that it doesn't tie into Alien...that it has "Alien DNA"...that it's NOT a prequel." Man, I could go on and on.

Guys, Ridley has mentioned in a recent interview that this planet was not LV_426 and the engineer ship we see in Prometheus is not the derelict ship from Alien. There are several Engineer outposts in that star system. The reason why the SJ in alien ends up chest busted is the very same why the rest of the engineers on LV-223 get slaughtered - their bio weapon got out of control. See this post for the interview: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/6352

I swear to God! Lindelodotf better get canned for the sequal. He's a horrible writer that plays with audiences heads in a bad way. His teasing on Lost and now Promerheus has to let Hollywood know that this guy is not liked by the vast majority of viewers. In other words he's a @&$ teaser.

@deckard - In that case, this film takes place in the same "universe" as Alien right? Well. . . With Prometheus being about the Jockeys, life/creation etc, then why would Ridley totally ignore the Jockey that appears to have birthed the Xenomorph creatures?? It'd be like "Yeah lets do a movie about those big Jockey aliens, but lets completley ignore the fact that in Alien an unstoppable force of a creature bursted from a one of their chests". . . Doesn't make sense to me.

flexer

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:46 PM
@Xenophobe Well that's exactly what happens with the Jockey in the end of the movie. Why can't the same stuff happen to another Jockey on LV-426?

Xenotron

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:48 PM
It bursts out of his chest, silly! That's a tie into Alien, right?

Xenophobe

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:48 PM
@Flexer - Precisely! IF a similar thing did happen to another Jockey, I'd love to know why/how the Xeno that burst from him is so similar to the alien at the end of Prometheus.

Deckard_B26354

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:50 PM
@xenophobe...he ignored it because that would be making a film that you know the ending of. He doesn't find that interesting and I know that for a looong damn time everyone was wondering how this film ends. And I think that while they didn't want to show what happened to the Engineer in Alien but then showed pretty much the same thing happen to this one was probably to try to satisfy all the people that they knew would have bitch fests about it not being a direct prequel.

Xenophobe

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:53 PM
True perhaps, that's the only explaination I could think of. But in various interviews Ridley has mentioned again and again about "the cargo that the Derelict ship was carrying in Alien" etc, why mention it SO much prior to this film coming, if in actual fact this film has nothing really to do with Alien??

abordoli

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:54 PM
It is NOT a proto-alien in the sense that it is an evolutionary step before the beloved Xeno. That bio-weapon was created well over 1 million years ago. What you do see here are some of the ancient engineer designs being defrosted and brought back to life well after the bio-weapon has been completed and used effectively to terraform planets. Nosing around in the creator's "laboratory" and unleashing Xeno 1.0 thru 1.4 (for example) does not negate the fact that Xeno version 54.6 (for example) exists and is in wide-spread use.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:56 PM
Just perplexes me then how it can be so similar to the familiar Xenomorph. . .

The High Priest

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:56 PM
yeah but Deckard....if that's the case, it would have just been a better idea to make it....mmmmmm, i dont know.....a prequel perhaps? Its a convoluted mess.

abordoli

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:57 PM
Because the engineers kept samples along the way.....Those ampules.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 4:59 PM
@the high priest - I think Scott was just trying to throw everyone off pre release of the film to be honest. Also, if this occurs in the same universe as Alien as been stated. What were these incredibley intelligent and advanced Engineers doing while all that crap occured in the Alien films?? Seeing as they can create life and travel across the galaxy at will, odd how they never popped up again in the franchise.

I have always stated that a true Alien fan (first movie) would be happy with the outcome of this movie.. Remember folks there is going to be a sequal. The majority of the people that are dissatisfied with the movie are straight Xeno freaks. They went to the theater becausw they expected to see the Xeno run around killing everything in site. Big deal that it does not tie in. Ridley never said that it would. Get the cotton out of your ears folks. The movie stands on its own in the Alien universe, like it or no?

I guess we'll have to watch the sequel to find out... Restart the countdown timer!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:01 PM
I didn't expect to see a Xeno, I just expected at least a miniscule explaination as to the millions of eggs on a Derelict Engineer spaceship and why it was indeed "derelict" looking. . .

flexer

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:03 PM
@Xenophobe My guess is that's because Engineer from prometheus and the one from Alien got were impregnated with a bio weapon of similar types (version in abordoli's terms).

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:04 PM
Hey the other directors that came after Scott had the opportunity to use the space jockeys, but they decided not to. It that Scott's fault also. Come on my man.

Xenophobe

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:05 PM
Hmm. . . That's what I at least expected to see, what happened to THAT Engineer. I didn't expect to see a different Engineer have something similar to it, burst out. That seems like a kinda "OH here's something to shut those people up who want a link to Alien, have that in your face!". . .

Scot

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:07 PM
Well then the first SJ and ship left sometime before prometeus lands there like in the last million lets say and it leaves to go kill a someone maybe us on earth has a leaked egg from the egg chamber gets impregnated and crash lands and makes an emergency landing on the nearest planet LV-426 and sends a distress signal out but is never rescued due to some reason and LV-233 has a problem with there bio weapons and it kills off most except one SJ. It really looks like the ship from Alien is a failed mission from way back that the Nostromo crew happens to run into. I think they should have put LV-233 in some other part of the universe and not so close to LV-426. That would have made a lot more sense as far as this movie is concerned.

Xenophobe

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:16 PM
@Scot - That would be interesting! Also the only "tie in" I can think of is you can now see why in Alien, the Derelict was transmitting a stay away signal into space. As Engineers seem to enjoy being massacred by their own mutated creations. . .
