Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is close to filling out its cast roster as the project begins filming. The most recent addition to the project is Rahart Adams, in an undisclosed role. Adams is primarily a television actor, and Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is is first major film role.
Adams joins Spartacus star Nick Taraby in the cast of the film. Cailee Spaeny will also star as a lead in an undisclosed role along with Levi Meaden. Other confirmed new cast members include Ivanna Sakhno and Adria Arjona. The age of all confirmed cast members so far does indicate a potential new class of recruits to pilot the Jaegers.
Pacific Rim 2 will take place after the events of the first film, with Star Wars' John Boyega starring as Stacker Pentecost's son. Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi's return are yet to be announced. Regarding the plot, it is known that the sequel will explore more of the Kaiju's origins and introduce us to new Jaegers and technology. Steven S. DeKnight is set to direct Legendary's PACIFIC RIM 2 (Pacific Rim Uprising), the follow-up to the epic action-adventure Guillermo del Toro created with 2013's hit original film, with a script penned by Zak Penn, Jon Spaights and del Toro. The producers are Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro, Mary Parent and Callum Greene. Jillian Share will executive produce. Universal Pictures will release the film worldwide in 3D.
Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, Pacific Rim Uprising's release date is March 23rd, 2018.
