Was Godzilla VS. Kong the first movie to do this?

Hi guys. First off, it's been a while since I've been on this forum, and I'm glad to be back :).

2nd, I don't know if anybody has already written a topic on this already, so feel free to ignore this if there's an existing one.

Ever since the grand release of Godzilla vs. Kong, I couldn't help but think about one thing: since Godzilla beat Kong, does this film mark the first time in cinematic history that a reptile finally beat an ape/primate?

I mean, think about!

Rampage: Lizzie the croc killed by George the ape

Peter Jackson's king kong: King Kong kills the V. rexes

King Kong vs Godzilla: TOHO confirms King Kong won

Kong: Skull Island: Kong defeats the Skullcrawler

To my knowledge, no reptile has a victory on their record.

And yes, I know some of you are thinking "well technically Kong won because he defeated M.G. and saved the real Godzilla" or "there was no winner because the true bad guy was mechaG". Yes, Kong won the battle, but Godzilla won the war.

If a movie has the word "vs" in it, there's usually going to be a winner and a loser. That's why the movie is titled "Godzilla vs. Kong" and not "Godzilla meets Kong". And if a film with "vs" doesn't have a winner/loser then that's just pointless.

But getting back on track, what do you think? Is GVK really the only movie with a reptile winner, or is there one out there before GVK? Let me know!!!

Godzilla technically did won the battle against Kong, Kong was just brought back to life to kill a Robot

Technically you could argue that the scenes of dinosaurs eating people in the Jurassic Park/World movies could count as reptiles defeating primates.

Humans are classified as primates, and dinosaurs are classified as reptiles.

Yes, Godzilla won.  He killed Kong but Kong was saved because hmmmmm, monke.

SasquaDash I guess you have a point, considering the reptiles are too much to handle for the primitive human race in the movies. Still, don't the humans always make it out alive, or at least have some sort of victory?

You took the words out of my mouth, lol

Well in western crossover movies, there is a heavy dose of wanting to please both fanbases.

KaijuFan_6754

Valid point as well

Some of the humans make it out alive, but most of the time they survive by retreating and leaving the islands, which could count as being defeated.

SasquaDash valid point there.

Also, if anybody has seen ape vs monster, tell me who wins, because I'm not willing to spend 2 hours watching a poor mockbuster film unless I'm really wanting to waste time.

Even if it was obvious, the monke should've won.

Kong won last time in the 1962 movie

But it was technically a draw, Godzilla probably swam back to his lair and Kong headed back to land.  So no real winner.

So I was looking for examples of a fight where a reptile beats an ape...

Does this count?

Yes but it was Kong that surfaced, Godzilla was no where in sight, his fate was unknown until the obvious sequel Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster

So nobody won still since Godzilla returned anyway, you just proved my point.

It's funny how the American monster won in the Japanese movie and the Japanese monster won in the American movie.

Well King Kong was the more popular monster at the time, and it would’ve been really bold and controversial for Toho to say, “OUR MONSTER IS BETTER”

But I’m on their side
