Adam Wingard teases brutal monster violence in GvK

A few days ago, GvK director Adam Wingard took to Instagram and teased that despite the movie being officially rated PG-13 (of course), it will feature a lot of creature violence/destruction, his caption stating that the rating is "an understatement." This personally has me extremely excited. Shear, brutal Kaiju violence is something that's been missing in the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies so far, and I truly welcome the idea of this (although I still don't want them to go overboard to where it's unrealistic). However, in the future, I would be all for a Tarantino level of violence and gore in an R rated Godzilla film; that would be amazing.

So what are your thoughts on this? I know that there are several people out there who, unlike me, hate the idea of brutal monster violence in this movie, so I'd like to know exactly how much violence you want in the movie.

I’m all for the creature violence but only to a point where it’s not disturbing to watch.

Ah shit I’m using my wrong eye again. Sorry that was meant to be behind your back

So pretty standard Monsterverse fare, then.

It's kind of one of the franchise's most notable features.

Pretty much, but like I said earlier, I think that that could be very cool in a future (not MonsterVerse) Godzilla film. If GvK really was that violent, it probably wouldn't be PG-13.

True, the violence in the MonsterVerse is definitely there, but so far they've played it really safe (though K:SI is a bit more gritty than the two other G movies). I think GvK can take it to the next level.

Monsterverse is "playing safe" for a reason. To have an R rated movie in it could potentiality kill it. I'm not much a fan of gore, and find it uncomfortable. Remember that Monsterverse wants to appeal to multiple audiences and create new fans, not just adults and old fans.

I'm fully aware that Legendary is keeping the MonsterVerse PG-13 in order to gain those views from wider audiences, which I completely understand; the MonsterVerse really doesn't need to be rated R, aside from the fact that it probably wouldn't benefit the studios involved at all (I'm not sure the MonsterVerse will do very well as it is). If you don't really like hard core gore all that much, that's completely understandable. However, there's a certain limit to how much monster violence could be featured in a PG-13 movie, and I think that maybe Wingard is planning on pushing those limits, which I personally would't mind at all (as long as it's kept realistic).
