Hi emmamillathompson I moved this thread into the Alien Covenant main forum so it can get more exposure and debate.

That's a tough question. It's hard for me to decide which one I think is superior.

While Prometheus was about humanity searching for their creators (Engineers) only to find out their creators wanted to wipe them out, AC was about the creation (David) rising up against its creators (Humans and Engineers) and wanting to become a god by trying to create a perfect organism; both films overall explored deep themes of creation, have amazing cinematography, visuals, production design, creature designs, ship designs, scores etc. *shrugs*

Just my opinion, no need to get triggered.

Dark Nebula XD

I agree Dark Nebula, they both have their merits, and their flaws.

I feel Prometheus told a more complete story and can stand alone as its own entity. Covenant feels like a 'book 2' of a trilogy and cannot be judged without the sum of its whole. Time will tell if we get the conclusion to this story, but without an ending Covenant suffers more than Prometheus.

Prometheus is fantastic!!!

It has it's flaws, which is why I give it a 9/10.

Still, if I look at the flaws as to how it made me react and feel, I would have to say I don't remember being that animatedly upset in a movie.  Maybe that was the intended purpose?  I say that because I was at the extreme!  I just had to yell something as I watched that part.

Prometheus is a GREAT movie!

I give Alien: Covenant a 7 out of 10.  I haven't seen it in about a year or year and a half.  I do NEED to rewatch it.  One of the main reasons I think I didn't like Alien: Covenant was because of ALL OF THE HYPE A.N.D. because Ridley Scott was filmed saying before the theatrical release, "This is going to scare the $h!t out of people."  It didn't to me, so I'm not happy about that.  I mean, because of Ridley Scott's words, I was considering NOT seeing Alien: Covenant in theaters because I thought I just wouldn't be able to handle it.  I've been there scared before when watching a movie or playing a video game, so I was expecting the same from Alien: Covenant.  Well, Alien: Covenant didn't produce...

The reason I say that maybe the hype brought the movie down was because Alien: Covenant was the first of the ALIEN franchise that I saw in theaters and I joined this forum before it's release.  I kept away from any spoilers though.  I rented Prometheus because it looked like such an awesome movie and I'm just too cheap to see it in theaters.  I didn't know anything about Prometheus except what I saw on TV in the trailers.  FABULUOUS TRAILER!  I wish I would've saw Prometheus in the theaters.  To bad, so sad I guess.

I need to watch Alien: Covenant again to get a proper review, but I don't think it would be greater than my love for Prometheus.

I Moon Girl I re-watched Covenant again recently. I enjoyed it much more this time without the strings of expectation and hype attached. It was an enjoyable watch

My problem is trying to ignore the expectations I had for both. I like AC better but parts felt a bit rushed.

I have lightened up on Prometheus after remembering that it isn't about an Alien.

Both suffer from poor character development. I lean toward AC mostly because of the back and forth between David and Walter.

I love both Prometheus and Alien Covenant: Both are superior over those terrible AVP movies.

Both movies have strong build ups...but they quickly turn to garbage in the 3rd act.

For now, Godzilla, that strangely innocent and tragic monster, has gone to earth. Whether he returns or not or is never again seen by human eyes, the things he has taught us remain.

That is difficult to answer

Alien Covenant had less annoying characters but I liked the story better in Prometheus. Unfortunately they both lack when it comes to characters to support. On the other hand AC turned into an android movie once David showed up which made it worse than it could have been but I also liked to see the differences between Walter and David. It is too difficult for me to answer but I can tell you this: I have Prometheus at home but I don’t own a copy of AC.

I will get back to you on this ;)

Prometheus in a Nutshell was Flawed but it opened up avenues to expand the Franchise and Offering some NEW.

Alien Covenant in a Nutshell was Flawed and CLOSED some of the Doors that Prometheus had opened up.

I view Prometheus as a Flawed Prologue to what could have been expanded.... i view Alien Covenant as a Very Flawed Attempt to Literally connect us to ALIEN

There was plenty of scope to HOW a Prometheus Sequel could have gone... but its now lead to a LIMITED scope to how they can connect to ALIEN.

A Movie about David and Creation, that offers little or NO Xenomorphs but sets up a WAR OF THE WORLDS  4th and maybe Final Prequel (that may then have Xenomorphs) is something many may not want, mainly due to how the David ARC is and also Protest at the Xenomorph no longer being Ancient)!

A movie that instead caters for Xenomorphs.... that maybe then shows them to be more Ancient and kills off David, again would that make a Good Movie?

Prometheus Sequel was to steer away from ALIEN...

Alien Covenant sets us on a path towards ALIEN, where they then would have a HARD time to make each installment LESS-ALIENY now they have gone down that path its what Fans will Expect!
