MemberFacehuggerDec-23-2017 5:00 PMI was bored and Prometheus was on, and it struck me that if the beasts are dumb and just short term exterminators then the deacon is dead. What would it eat? I have suffered posts on the need for sustinance, but we can't ignore the math related to calories, and pretend energy grows on trees, the reality is it would starve. Tough to be a vegan on that planet. The kid-beast would be dumb, for at least a while, so it would starve.

MemberFacehuggerDec-23-2017 5:06 PM10+ years? Point being there should be no story going back there.

MemberNeomorphDec-23-2017 5:10 PMYeah I don't think anybody is going back there. Unless there is the need to retrieve more vases.

MemberFacehuggerDec-23-2017 5:18 PMI was struck with the notion that the engineers on that planet basically took an oath to sleep until needed to destroy stuff. So when he was woken up he did what he should and killed, starting with david. These are extraterrestrial kamakazies. So trying to speak with him was probably not a good idea, as they would likely not put their "Einstein" in cryostasis just to kill worlds.

MemberFacehuggerDec-23-2017 5:55 PMAgree. It's funny if you are a math/logic minded person, which I think most on this forum might be...
Each film sends us on a vector of thought that is not pointed at the next film. So, with the time between films it allows the true fans to run so far ahead along that vector that we are upset when the film arc takes the proverbial 90°. I would bet we are dealing with a right brain director with a left brain fan base.

MemberTrilobiteDec-23-2017 5:58 PMSpearfish You might be right. It has been suggested in more than one thread that BigDave and Michelle should be hired as consultants for the future of the franchise.

MemberFacehuggerDec-23-2017 6:16 PMMichelle and Dave, please add me (and DK) to the preread/testing group once you get the lead writing role. That would be fun.

ModeratorPraetorianDec-23-2017 9:21 PMThis interesting theory pops up from time to time whenever we discuss lifespan and nutrients of the xeno. Instead of requiring external nutritional support from its environment the xenos "acid blood" works more as a biochemical energy source bypassing the need for food/water. But like a battery it depletes, giving the xeno's a limited lifespan.
To me this sounds more like a perfect biological weapon. An organism that fuels itself, rapidly repopulates parasitically, and then dies off after it has decimated an ecosystem.

MemberTrilobiteDec-23-2017 9:29 PMInteresting video, but it doesn't account for the Runner clearly seen eating in Alien 3. Teeth have a purpose.

MemberNeomorphDec-24-2017 6:09 AMdepends on whether the weyland files will be ignored or not. we have to return to that system to tie the derelict on lv426 into the prequels. either we return to the lv223 facility for more goo or there is a signal emitting from lv426 as stated in those files and David is aware of it

MemberNeomorphDec-24-2017 6:21 AMid say regarding the deacon/ xenos, each individual beast will have a short life span yet the goo/ spores remain dormant indefinitely it seems so the threat remains till disturbed. we don't yet have a concrete answer on how long the eggs can remain dormant but id guess theyd be pretty much the same so tho the beast is short lived the threat will always be there

MemberDeaconDec-25-2017 6:25 PMWell i think the Problem arises from the Evolution of the Xenomorph from its beginnings in Starbeast to what we have now...
We have to ASK if the Xenomorph is purely a Weapon, or a Organism that has the potential to be used as a Weapon and what the Xenomorphs Objective is, in Alien we see it was just killing everyone, but the DC shows it was Procreating (Egg Morph) Aliens seemed to paint them as a Organism that could be used as a Invasive Species who just Survive/Procreate and the way they do this would mean they could be used as some kind of Pesticide well they would kill off a Worlds Inhabitants.
I think we need to hope they have a IDEA regarding the Biology of the Xenomorph, i think maybe they require FOOD/Hosts is because they need Genetic Material in Order to Procreate? Maybe?
Regarding the Deacon it depends how close is this to our Xenomorphs, it appeared to Biological, and so it would maybe have some way/need to Procreate and it would need some kind of Energy.
But we dont know how they are exploring the Xenomorph and Related Pathogen as far as how the Organisms created from it function... some clues/comments sugest the Black Goo maybe ends up eventually reducing infected Organisms into either NOTHING or more of the Pathogen or maybe even something else.
I guess it depends on what the Deacons Purpose would be? And if it has a limited Life-Span, the Fire and Stone Comics showed eventually the Deacon just went into a Temple Mound and became part of the Temple/Complex which was revealed as being ALIVE and growing.
Of course we cant take Fire and Stone as Canon though.
