it seems to me that most people(my self included) were expecting awakening to take place directly after covenant. the latest news says otherwise. in a press conference ridley scott told some people that awakening is going to take place in between prometheous and covenant. this leaves the question of what the plot will be. do you have any predictions? if it follows david and shaw, I don't really see how a whole movie could take place on that timeline. everything important to them has all ready bein explained. shaw sews his head on. the go to engineer planet. the kill engineers david cuts shaw up and makes xenomorph.

another quiestion that I was wondering was if you think that there will be xenomorphs in it. i hope there are of some kind but them not being the point of the film. sort of like a ponderous philisophical sci fi film with ocasional burts of extreme violence and horror. but how would xenomorphs even be in the film? my best guess would be that the engineers created the xenomorphs previously and david made an adapted version of it in covenant. this would clear up a lot of things in prometheous. my next best guess would be that there will only be neomorphs and not xenomorphs.

what do you think the plot and tone of awakening be now that we know it will take place after prometheous? let me know in the comments.

Do you have a link to any of the interviews? Now, this isn't the first time that we have heard the next movie being a prequel to Covenant. Back sometime shortly after Prometheus was released I believe it was Chris who posted a big ol' explanation as to how/why we were going to get some out of order sequels to the 2012 film.

So yeah, that was popular for a while and then it really kicked up again when Ridley Scott and Katherine Waterston were being interviewed at one point for Covenant. Scott started to say something such as, "Well we went in with Prometheus, then it's Awakening, then here with Covenant-," before Waterston cut him off saying, "You're saying too much!"

I would love to see what Scott and the team can do with that period of the franchise for sure. I do agree with you that it doesn't seem as feasible anymore to go with the Shaw and David story because we know the important moments. If they were working on that, I would show up the theater so damn hard. Holy moly. We know how that story ends and some of the important points in the timeline, but damn it would be Prometheus 2!!

In regards as to whether the Xenomorph would be involved? If they went with the Shaw and David story, I don't see how the Xeno could be a good, organic part of that story. Only through flashbacks or mentions in the dialogue. I am guessing that Shaw and David's Paradise adventures would not be the plot for a Covenant prequel, so I am guessing that the Xenomorph will have a role in the next film either way. Probably smaller than Covenant for sure.

That would be a great surprise, but how do we reach Origae-6 in a this kind of movie?

The contradiction can be killed this way:

The reason behind this can be that Shaw is not dead. So the story starts with David and Shaw on the Engineer ship, we see the real events of the crossing, not only David's tale. They arrive, David kills the Engineers, etc, BUT Shaw escapes or hides somewhere... Then in a minute we see the events of AC, the Covenant ship arrives, we know what happens, then the lifter leaves Planet 4, etc... We jump back to Planet 4, Shaw appears, or somebody wakes her up - that would explain the title if it will be the title... And Shaw (with Walter or with the Engineers) flies to Origae-6 as well taking part in a clash of more parties.

It would be a fast and good movie in my opinion.

Okay, thanks Timmy the ultramorphAti, I like that idea! The Shaw/Walter pairing sounds like a lot of fun after what we have seen from Prometheus and Covenant! Them trying to get off of the planet (even if for a few minutes) could an awesome scene if written well. Them comibing with some Engineers to form a motley crue of David's enemies could also be really cinematically rich in the context of these Alien prequels.

cuponator3000 - You mention very important and reasonable things!

'The Shaw/Walter pairing sounds like a lot of fun'

Yes! And the three Alien prequels would follow an exciting pattern: Prometheus - Shaw and David, Alien Covenant - David and Walter, Alien Covenant 2 - Walter, Shaw and David

'to form a motley crue of David's enemies'

Imagine the situation in which David's enemies fight together against him - Shaw, Walter, the Engineers, the Covenant colonists, and the crew of a new Weyland-Yutani ship versus David. Holy s...!

It would be the first Alien movie which grows around a previous one. Without doubt, it would be a new and surprising approach. It would be similar to the show How to Get Away with Murder in which flashback scenes reveal past events altering the picture... totally. Then we get the new...

Are you talking about this quote from RS? "There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] ALIEN. It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant...fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way...."

There are some interesting ideas here for sure and worth exploring. I would hope they tie things to Alien first before all that though. It seems like the longer this goes on, the less mysterious the original movie is. The mystery was part of the WTF fear and sparked wonder.

To me that would just be confusing (like is this before this or before that?) if they do not clearly state that it is before Covenant somewhere in the movie or something that makes us see that it is. Nah, just carry on from where it is now. By the way I don't want any more movie with Shaw in it, that is another reason why I think that this is a bad idea.

". . . the engineers created the xenomorphs previously and david made an adapted version of it in covenant."

I hope so, the idea of David creating it is just crap.

I think it will be interesting.

It could mean writers have some interesting plot twists.

But also filmmakers have a complicated task to make surprising and not boring movie.

Of course, I would be glad to see Shaw again.

We need to remember Ridley Scott gets his words muddled up....  ;)

The way Alien Covenant handled the events that transpired between Prometheus and Alien Covenant and also the reason for The Crossing Prologue, and then The Advent is simply to cover in as quick way as possible what happened between 2094 and 2104, and so those holding out for a Return of Dr Shaw and what David did while on Planet 4, will be very disappointed.

the whole reason for these scenes and extras was to show us loosely what happened, the whole reason for Prometheus was to hint what happened to the Space Jockey but as it was done so vaguely, we could not really figure out 100% what went down.

With AC and those Prologues one to AC the other to AA, they are showing us what happened in that time as covering these events would deem not necessary to pushing the Plot along the Path to ALIEN

Its for the same reason that i think Alien Awakening, will not be set much on the Covenant Ship and i even think we will be in store for more of the same AC  Aftermath kind of a flick,  where the next movie i think we would see Origae-6 has been set up with a Colony, and they all think David is Walter, before things start to get revealed about David and then the $"£%^£" hits the FAN

And we shouldn't forget that now we are far away from confirmed facts.

I'm sure 'Awakening' won't be the title of the Covenant sequel.

And they can change anything... anytime...

Plus I'm sure nothing about Cov 2 will be announced in 2017. Star Wars 8 is coming...

Wow... Two weeks and Star Wars 8 arrives...

Indeed a lot could change by then...

I think RS/FOX and Logan have a basic Plan of where this is going, its a Question now of if the response to Alien Covenant will lead them back to the drawing board a little.

Ridley Scott did mention Alien Awakening in the Order that it was between Prometheus and Alien Covenant in the Time-line, but this could be a mistake by RS... even though Alien Awakening would fit logically between them with that Title, if it covered indeed the beginning of the Alien Organism, we can see that Alien Covenant showed us the Fruits of DAVIDS Labor to arrive at those EGGS and so at the time RS made this comment, it had some of us indeed wondering if the next movie will cover events between Prometheus and Alien Covenant, as far as what David was up to... But would this make a good movie?  where we see David wondering around Planet 4, cataloging the Life on that Planet and Experimenting on it?

So i think Alien Awakening is a unlikely title to any more set between Prometheus and Alien Covenant, and i dont think we will see any such Prometheus 2.5 movie.  Alien Awakening is also a working Title, this could be changed at any point.

Alien Awakening as a Title is misleading because it would have fans think we will indeed get more clues to the Xenomorph as far as the ONE in ALIEN

Ridley Scott has mentioned a fair bit about the direction the Next Movie will go, but this has been covered a few times by myself and others and it will be interesting if this kind of Plot is something we are getting or if things will change.

Its all gone a bit Quiet... with only RS saying that the next movie will Focus on AI and what kind of a World David would want to Build, and less focus on the Xenomorph and in hindsight RS route to distance itself from the Xenomorph in Prometheus was ahead of the Game.
