I know an Alien fan from Japan and he said there is actually no Japanese Prometheus novelization.

@Kethol

Whaaat!? Then why does everyone say there is?? The guy at Barnes and Noble told me there was...

So you mean, I have no hope of ever reading a Prometheus novel, even if I learn Japanese? :(

Maybe not enough demand?

Maybe because too many people felt that it was such a let-down so very few would give a F about buying it? This could be a possible explanation, there might be other reasons as to why it hasn’t happened.

I would maybe give it a chance if I could have a look inside it before I would buy it but if I couldn’t do that then it would be a waste of money if I found it to be boring.

Not sure why people gave Prometheus such a hard time i found it fascinating and each time I watch it especially the extended version I see something new, a line, comment or expression which is why I would love to read the book but had to jump straight i Covenant

Tk: Prometheus to me isn’t worthless it is just that there are so many things in it that are not good, that could be elaborated on, or things that should have been explained better.

Some of my problems with it are:

Not enough Xeno clues or that the Xeno clues were not that well done. Sure the Trilobyte and the Deacon were alright but they should have kept another design of the Trilobyte and the Hammerpedes should have been re-done. I understood the connection on repeated viewings but anyways. Oh yeah they should have used that Xeno Fifield instead of the crappy Zombie version.

What did Weyland hope to achieve? Sure they had subtitles to an alternate scene when he spoke to the Engineer but without the conversation being translated (with subtitles) that scene becomes useless to me. Even worse, they had a Weyland TED speech where he explained some of his goals but none of that was in the movie, which made his character boring.

Characters in general, those that I liked were the captain (Elba) and David. They should have been more all-round instead of one dimensional. Shaw was religious, stubborn, and irrational – that’s it and no it didn’t help that she was a scientist because she was still stupid. Holloway was childish and annoying and he was a dick towards David. Scooby and Shaggy (Fifield and Milburn) were just too dumb beyond words so they deserved to die (“let’s pet a space snake that we haven’t seen before!”).

There were characters that were just put there for no reason (Chance, Ravel, and Ford, I might have forgot some). What were their purpose for being there? What was their personalities? Ford for example helped Shaw to take care of that head and then she was killed. Chance and Ravel, well what did they do? The problem is that when we don’t care about the characters their deaths don’t mean anything. Alien 1-3 worked because of well done characters but it is almost as if that doesn’t exist in Prometheus. Sure there were some characters that had some less roles in Aliens like she that navigated the ship but she was written alright considering the little time that she were given which goes for most of the small roles.

The Engineer(s): what was his connection to the Xeno? What did he say when he spoke to Weyland? Why did they decide to kill humans? They should also have kept the intro where they had many Engineers in it before the sacrificial Engineers drinks the goo. I think that there was one Engineer that said something to the Engineer that killed himself which sort of explained some.

Prometheus is OK but not more, it gets 2/5 which is unfortunate because it could have been so much better if they wouldn’t have cut a lot of material that would have made sense. I have seen some deleted scenes that were a lot better than those that are in the movie and they explain a lot.

Unfortunately, an underwhelming movie might give an underwhelming comic. I am not sure if I will buy it.

@VivisectedEngineer

I always assumed there was one, because of this.

http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Prometheus_(novel)

He said he does not think it is legit. He said it's a mix of the two leaked scripts, and badly written by a Japanese author, not Jon Spaiths and Damon Lindelof.

Prometheus has a great, core story.  It's landscape shots, high-tech visuals, color choices, and sets are what gives the movie such a great feel.  Although some of the details should have been done differently either by explaining things better or in some cases, played out just slightly different.  I LOVE the fact that there are little connections to the Alien franchise (until the end).  I feel like Prometheus was a chance for Ridley Scott to take the perfection of Alien and do it with the different story of Prometheus.  Prometheus is a PERFECT idea, but not a perfect movie.  This is unlike the original Alien, which is a PERFECT idea and a PERFECT movie.

Maybe the reason why they didn't make the Prometheus novel was because of all of the visuals that are what makes the movie great.  Without them, I don't think I wouldn't enjoy the movie near as much, but I guess I could be proved wrong with flawless writing.  Of course, as I think most people can agree on, Prometheus does not have flawless writing.  The core story is perfect though.

I'd buy a Prometheus novel. Aside from the gorgeous visuals, I thought the writing was pretty good and would love a companion book like they did Covenant. People give Milburn and Fifield a lot of crap for their questionable decision making skills but I thought it was pretty sound and actually pretty funny. Fifield had the pups map the interior but he didn't have a map himself, he also wasn't too bright it looked like and impulsive. Milburn was the animal guy in the group so encountering an alien species was a great find and he got overconfident. Yes, the Hammerpede did give off a hostile stance but Milburn probably figured he could tame the creature ala Steve Irwin. A lot of stuff in Prometheus is very subtle, like in the original Alien. We don't know anything about Brett, Parker, and Lambert aside from their personalities and there was hardly any character development outside from when they first woke from hypersleep. They also made dumb decisions like Brett walking alone, Dallas going into the air duct to get the creature, Ripley wandering off to get Jonesy when they're suppose to be evacuating. I feel people are unusually hyper-critical of these films as of late.

@Lawrence of Arabia

I whole-heartedly agree about the Milburn and Fifield scene. It struck me as very believable human behavior. It's not like the characters know they're in a horror movie.

Just the other day I was out for an evening walk and I saw this weird giant beetle thing crawling along the curb. It looked strange and interesting and I like animals, so I leaned down real close to stare at it for a while. Most of Milburn's animal encounters had probably been equally uneventful, up until that moment in his life.

Also, for all of us longing for a Prometheus novel: about half an hour ago some random dude who was sitting next to me in this cafe and started talking to me after noticing I was watching Alien^3 on my lap-top, told me that we all need to read the Alien: Engineers script by Jon Spaihts.

According to him it is AMAZING and will answer all of our questions and fill in all the blanks regarding Prometheus.

I think it is unfortunate that a novel has to explain things that should have been explained in the movie especially if the novel is written after the fact.

Lawrence of Arabia I agree and would love a Prometheus novel. Like you said there is a lot subtlety and ambiguity in the film, that could be fleshed out and explored just a little more in a companion book. If the book also spent a little more time to develop the characters backgrounds, motives, decision-making it would be a fascinating and enlightening novelisation I think.

@dk

I understand what you mean but I think it's reasonable that some things aren't going to make the final cut for pacing reasons.

Plus, no matter how detailed a movie is fans are always going to have questions.

Also, the Jon Spaihts script is written before the movie was shot, and it's my understanding that most of the novelizations are based on the original scripts for the film.

I'm sure even after reading the scripts and novels we will generate questions.

I personally liked Prometheus, but I am interested in reading that script.

I think a big problem is the same as those who have read the Alien: Covenant Novel and then looked at how it delivered more than the Movie did....

Prometheus Draft by Lindeloff was not to bad, it explained some scenes better, had more to the reasons behind Fifield and Milburn scenes to make them not look as dumb.

Sadly when a movie has to be shot, changes get made and RS is also someone who can come to set one day and the night before or even on set he can have ideas of things to change and so last minutes changes are made.. And also when working on shooting their is a limited amount of scenes that can be shot.    If the Novel of AC was shot scene by scene in that detail of the Novel the movie would not be 2hr 4Min long and the same goes with the Prometheus Drafts.

I can understands some of you points though THOUGHTS_DREAMS i really have to finish off my Prometheus re-write which is stopped a few years back, this certainly had a more Alieny Feel but not to much.

The Fifield attack in my re-write would have had a more Xeno-Hybrid Look and then he attacks a crew outside and gets shot to bits and falls onto the crew member and Acid Blood Melts this crew... it was a kind of re-insert of the idea in Alien Engineers when Vickers has Fifield fall on top of her after he was shot to bits.

Milburn also had a Chest Buster and a Hammerpede gets killed to reveal tiny Eggs..
