As we edge closer and closer to Godzilla: King of the Monsters, I started thinking how for many Western audiences, Godzilla 2014 was the first Godzilla movie many of them had seen and how King of the Monsters will be the introduction to the classic kaiju Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. Of course for all of us here, these are classic characters, many of us have been fans for decades. So I just wanted to ask you guys a question, I apologize if it's been asked here before. What is your history with Godzilla?

This is my first time posting, so I'll give you my background. My personal history goes back for as long as I can remember. The first three VHS tapes I owned were the double pack of Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla vs. Megalon, along with Godzilla 1998. Then one day my dad brought home two other VHS tapes, Godzilla: King of the Monsters (the 1956 one with Raymond Burr) and Godzilla vs. Monster Zero. These were the two movies that really made me a fan. I still consider these two within my top three Godzilla movies and watch them regularly. It also helped that these were the VHS tapes that had those badass illustrations on the front of them. Slowly over the years, I would sometimes buy a DVD, but it wasn't that regular.

My family moved a lot, so it was always a tradition to go to Blockbuster and "rent" a movie before we left. That's actually how I got a lot of the Godzilla movies I own and I still have the DVDs to this day. It wasn't until I got my first job and figured out online shopping that I completed my collection.

Godzilla was always something I enjoyed and continue to enjoy. I think now is a better time to be a Godzilla fan than ever before, and I can't wait to see what comes next. How about you guys? Where did your history with Godzilla start? Is it exciting to think that so many are continuing to discover Godzilla with the Monsterverse and could become fans of the franchise like us?

My history of Godzilla has began with childhood. I was between the ages of 3-5, somewhere in there when I witnessed this famous monster on cable t.v. with Godzilla vs Megalon being my first film.

Later, I owned every Godzilla film on vhs until the dvds and blu rays started popping out. I still own all of the trendmasters Godzilla figures I was able to get my hands on. What's very disappointing is the fact I had to get rid of the vhs tapes due to not having a vcr anymore. It killed me getting rid of them.

Fast forward to where I'm at now, my history with Godzilla has led me to learn everything I could about the whole franchise. From directors, to studying tokusatsu, to actually learning japanese so I could read japanese books on Godzilla that go a little bit beyond anything our famous English Godzilla experts could bring us, although their information is very legit and very helpful. Looking at you, Ed Godziszewski, August Ragone, Steve Ryfle, Keith Aiken, and David Kalaat.

So, my history with Godzilla is far from over. The Japanese Godzilla books I own have given me much information Not found anywhere online (for the time being) and has even showed me every Aztec of tokusatsu.

All in all, my passion for Godzilla will only end when my body dies, but not my soul. ;)

For me it began when I was 4-5 years old. I had gone to a Toys R Us in a mall and saw a one winged dragon (which I now know due to my really good memory that the dragon was a one winged Aerodactyl). I didn't want the dragon at the time so we left and went home. However when we got home I decided that I wanted the dragon so my mom called my dad and told him to go and pick up the dragon. I waited in the garage till he got home and when he did I hopped up and walked over to him. However what he gave me wasn't the dragon, but a grey dinosaur with white spikes on it's back. At first I was slightly frustrated but I quickly began to love it (As I've loved dinosaurs literally my whole life). This figure is the Bandai America 1954 Godzilla figure and I still own it, in fact it's to my left as I type this. From there I began to see bits of Godzilla on TV and got really interested. So my mom went out and bought me Godzilla 2000, and I watched that movie a ridiculous amount of times. I then proceeded to watch Godzilla Tokyo SOS, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (original), and Godzilla vs Gigan. I would occasionally go to blockbuster and rent one, with me really remembering GMK (It was quite a movie for a 7-8 year old). So yeah, since then I've gotten more movies, figures, etc.

For me, when I was 3. Me and my dad used to rent movies all the time at our local Schnucks and one film caught my interest: Godzilla 2000. We rented it, I watched it, and I fell in love with it. Over the next few years, I discovered more and more Godzilla films. Over time, I began to become a big fan and began to build up my knowledge. Then 2014 came around and it was my first Godzilla movie on the big screen. I loved it back then, and still really like it now. Around that time, I began collecting figures then I focused on SH Monsterarts figures. So that's my history with it.

It seems like a lot of people had figures here, but I have never really bought any. I'm planning on going to G-Fest this year so that might change. Godzilla 2014 was also my first Godzilla film in theaters and while I still enjoy it, the prospect of more movies has me more excited.

For me it was when the Godzilla 2014 trailers started airing. I was interested and began reading about Godzilla so I knew the basics by the time the movie came out. I kept reading about the monsters and movies on Wikizilla until I got a set of some of the Showa movies Christmas 2014, along with the S.H. MonsterArts Gigan and Destoroyah.
