Alien Movie Universe

Love it, like it, dislike it, or hate it, can we just agree that AC was certainly NOT the "scariest Alien movie ever!!!"

?

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.  I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.

I could LOVE this movie and everything about it, and i would STILL SAY it wasn't scary at all.  Nothing scary about seeing bad CGI creatures out in the open and brightly lit.

Yes. While I liked the film it wasn't scary. Had a few jump scares but it was morbid. It was dark, evil, creepy parts. Again morbid. Not scary at least to me. Although those spores are kind of terrifying if you think about it. You are just walking along accidentally step on it and bam. You are dead.

Thanks.  My wife who attended with me today, isn't really what you would call an "Alien fan".  I mean, she has seen 1, 2, and 3 (I'm not going to show her Resurrection) and she liked them to varying degrees but she isn't the fan I am, although she likes movies in general.  Her take was that it also wasn't scary and she was really wanting to be scared as that's what she expected from what (if you look at the original Alien) is essentially more of a a horror-thriller-suspense movie more than a "Sci-fi" movie.  Even more so because the crappy media called it the "scariest one ever"!

The media always does that. They claimed 28 days later was the scariest movie ever. The next upcoming horror film is the scariest film ever and so on and so on. Blair witch scariest film ever. Exorcist scariest film ever. Texas chain saw massacre scariest film ever although I heard someone puked in the theater. Pick your poison for the scariest film ever.

Honestly, as a horror guy the one movie that I thought was scary was silence of the lambs. I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that it dealt with a transsexual.

Ok, yes it was not scary or creepy as the first alien is, but then again, does it really have to be, or can it really be? I think not, because we already have alien for that. I think though AC has a  smart plot and you know there are many things not explained, but that also adds depth and mystery to it. It's also very well paced. I sat watching it with goosebumps and came out of the theatre realising it was never boring for 1 sec.

In order to make it creepy again in my opinion, you'd need to introduce the HR Giger aesthetics more, make it dark. To me that is the only thing I'm really missing, but I guess this is something that will come as we move closer to explaining how all this leads up to the events in the first movie.

All in all I loved it. It is not Alien, but then again it can't be and we cannot expect it to be.

Honestly guys movies aren't scary really. Some have cheap jump scares that's about it. The first alien scared me because I was like five. I also got freaked out by a nightmare on elm street again because I was really young. I don't go to horror films to be scared. I like stories with blood and things because a lot of times the horror directors would put themes in movies.

carpenters the thing was a direct result of et. He wanted to show aliens aren't always friendly. The good horror movies usually have ideas working in the background.

unless you are a horror noob or a young kid don't expect to get scared by a movie. Jump scares get you.

I will say though that the conjuring was a bit unsettling. That creepy doll. Had lots of jump scares as well.

covenant got me once when David crunched Walter. It was the jarring sound and the body bending. I don't think any other part got me in a jump. A horror movie can get you when they set it up. Usually silence and bam a loud noise or fast movement gets you. Alien had a ton of jump scares.

with that said when you look at the franchise as a whole it is the scariest second only to alien.

Aliens was not scary. That was more action. Alien 3 pretty sure no one got scared. Alien the one not mentioned was more a dark comedy. Prometheus wasn't scary.

so that leaves covenant not scary but as alien films go probably the second scariest when considering what you have to compare it to. covenant was morbid though especially in davids workshop.

I agree, its the second scariest in the franchise, only beaten by Alien.

I didn't feel it was really all that scary.

Even the wife, who gets creeped out fairly easily thought it rather tame.

Yeah it wasnt as scary as id hoped. I wish they would have kept the tone and intensity of the first neomorph encounter throughout the rest of the movie, cuz that was one terrifying moment! Brutal, grotesque and intense. My god what a great scene! I couldnt stop smiling after watching this scene on the sneak peek on Alien day. It really gave me the impression that the franchise finally was going back to its horror roots. Unfortunately this turned out to generally not be the case for the rest of the movie.

One thing to consider about the scary factor was in the original there were no guns. In covenant the crew came packing. Guns change how things have to be handled. People may complain about cgi but covenant would of had to be totally different without it. You wouldn't of had any of the cool action scenes which in a way makes the Xenos scarier in their own right.

These aliens were fast, jumped all over the place, and could track you down. So in a way that's scarier or more intense.

The entire last scene Daniels said don't shoot your gun. T says something like shit or whatever. So, tension is raised at that point. Scene goes from pow pow, blow its head off to how to get a fast moving murder creature out of the air lock.

It's all relative.

If the alien moved like the aliens in covenant in the original the crew would of been slaughtered in seconds.

Same with aliens. If those aliens moved like what we saw those marines wouldn't have stood a chance and the queen would of ripped. Ripley to shreds.

i personally think 3-d would of been crazy intense with the aliens:)
