Well, I'm about to leave to see A:C in 1/2 hr. I have high hopes for this movie being an original fan back when A L I E N was released and I forgot about my then girlfriend and surroundings and was transfixed on what I was watching unfold before me on the screen.

I absolutely love what and where Ridley was taking Prometheus but understand that this movie can go in any direction.

I have tried my best to ignore the spoilers we have been bombarded with so as to go in fresh.

Anyways, the time to leave is upon me :)

My thoughts post-movie will follow …

* Update:

WOW!

I loved it! The pace was great from go-whoah. I personally do not think that there was any flat spots whatsoever. The cast and acting were great. Plot was good. Sets were great (this is one dark movie in more ways than one). Score was great. The only part I felt a little deflated with, was the ending. It's probably the only time I have ever wanted a Hollywood ending, but my thoughts are changing on that as it sinks in. :)

So, from an original old schoolers POV, I thought it was great. I now want to see it again.

I think if everyone went into this movie with an open mind and no expectations, then you will dig it.

Cheers, Godzilla. I will regardless :)

I'm glad someone caught that, DK. Yep, I'm well aware of spoilers.

Got my ticket: movie starts in 10mins …

Enjoy the movie. And have this little treat. It is a Black goo icecream just for your delight :-)

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-12-2017 8:26 PM

joylitt- A bit surprised there are no black goo burgers.

joylitt

MemberNeomorphMay-12-2017 8:28 PM

There will be I'm sure of that.

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-12-2017 8:30 PM

I have heard they make for an alarming toilet bowl view.

joylitt

MemberNeomorphMay-12-2017 8:32 PM

Well they are made of activated carbon. And the icecream is not advertised as "black goo" icecream but it is being sold in L.A.

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-12-2017 8:35 PM

With OD patients, I know what activated charcoal looks like in a toilet bowl- still, it could be a fun marketing ploy.

Tonehound- Watching Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight thanks to your reminder!

joylitt

MemberNeomorphMay-12-2017 9:21 PM

I did rewatch parts of Rocky Horror after a youtuber said David reminded her of Dr. Frank-N-Furter lol

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-12-2017 9:26 PM

joylitt- RHP is a cult classic. If you have never seen it, give it a whirl- Tim Curry did a great job. I did not see a David/FnF connection. Anyway, Here is what Tonehound was referencing:

dk So did you watch the AC already? I think they made the connection because of the creation of life theme.

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-12-2017 9:37 PM

joylitt Have not seen. But I had not considered that until you just mentioned it. Wow- I can see some connections except FNF was already over the top. Sorry-  when you first mentioned, I was thinking of Riff Raff but yes, I can see it. Will tune in tomorrow to update after doing the time warp again. Tonehound spawned a new conversation and may ot realize it!

dk That is the thing. They say this is not the same David from Prometheus. Now he is more theatrical and over the  top.

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-12-2017 10:08 PM

joylitt I just started a new thread. I would like to hear interpretations/comparrisons if there are any. I think I can see a couple but need to watch tonight before continuing. I thank you for sparking the idea!

Got it. Glad u liked it.

That I did, joylitt. Immensely. There is just so much to take in that you do need to see it more than once, which the majority of us will anyway.

I won't do a review yet as I will wait 'til everyone else has had the chance to see it. But my favourite scene I think is when one of the crew meets a curious Neomorph. Brilliant.

Can't wait for the Directors Cut so we can get to see the extended version + added scenes that were edited out. That's where this movie will excel.

@Tonehound Thanks for the encouraging review! Was getting a little down prior to us being able to see A:C on 5/28.

As for the comparisons of David to characters in RHPS, that's interesting, I'll be looking, but I certainly don't see it based on Prometheus, but...

RHPS is a FANTASTIC stage play/movie by Richard O'Brien. BUT...another FANTASTIC yet overlooked underrated gem is "Shock Treatment", also by O'Brien and originally meant to be a direct sequel to RHPS. IT still takes place in Denton, TX, and the main characters are Brad & Janet played wonderfully by Cliff deYoung and a saucy Jessica Harper, respectively. Also playing a wonderful part is Bert Humphries (the original Dame Edna), and a reprise with Richard O'Brien, Little Nell, and Patricia Quinn rounding out a great cast. Sure, its schlock in parts, but the music is relevant, and the theme...that of television BECOMING our lives and taking us over and controlling us...is more relevant than ever. It's available in entirety on YouTube, or more legally on DVD.

It's funny you mention Shock Treatment. You're the only person I have known to mention it to me in (wait for it) 34 years! I had an older friend turn me on to the soundtrack and have had the title song playing in my head ever since. Richard O'Brien is a creative genius. Being an Aussie myself I'm surprised to hear of the connection Barry Humphries has to the movie. Though I only had the soundtrack and never saw the movie, which will now change. You learn something new everyday, huh ;)

Don't let the negative reviews get you down. I'm certain you will dig A:C

You're jumping like a real live wire …

Starlogger I did a little digging and was saddened to learn of Tim's stroke that rendered him wheelchair bound. I also saw that Fox re did RHPS 40th Anniversary and Obrien was not too happy since he received no cut of the action- but he was happy knowing he started the whole thing from the beginning. I refuse to watch a remake. Some things should just be left alone imo.

MemberChestbursterMay-13-2017 8:21 PM

@dk yeah, all that's true. You may know they recently did a LIVE take on tv here in the US where Tim played the "Narrator" role and his speech is still pretty bad, but it was nice just to see him again. However, NOTHING is like that original performance. That show inspired a LOT of people to "Don't Dream It...Be It", with "A different set of Jaws"---tagline to promote the film to build off of the movie "JAWS" which released that summer. As most know, the original MP release bombed...

@Tonehound thanks so much for the encouragement for A:C and yes Bert does a GREAT job in Shock Treatment. The meaning of that movie is SO poignant today.

Starlogger On my other thread I posted a link to an interview with Tim Curry and Ridley Scott regarding Legend. It was interesting that RS picked Tim based off his RHPS performance. Now I have to re watch Legend tonight!

dk

MemberTrilobiteMay-13-2017 8:32 PM

Starlogger I was just a kid when RHPS came out. I only knew about about it since my friend's older sister was a fan and let us listen to the record. All we had was the music, record and a picture book. I didn't understand the deeper concepts but thought it was fun! I thought FNF reminded me somewhat of Paul Stanley of KISS back then, of whom I was a huge fan. I have found the movie to be just as relevant today for many reasons. It doesn't need a remake but there seems to be money in it. If I protest too much I will be called a Hipster!
