MemberFacehuggerMay-06-2017 3:12 PMEarly today Variety jump the gun and published their review of Alien Covenant. Just as fast as it was published, it was then taken down, but not before everyone took screen shots.
Below is the article. Read with caution as there are some spoilers contained in it.

MemberNeomorphMay-06-2017 4:14 PMWow this is such a unsubstantial review. The writer manages to avoid saying anything meaningful about the movie but he finds it appropriate to make an homophobic remark.

MemberFacehuggerMay-06-2017 4:16 PMYeah, their writing is off and I didn't care for the review.

MemberOvomorphMay-06-2017 4:34 PMa hilarious review. I didn't understand a thing. What was the point with that?

MemberNeomorphMay-06-2017 4:51 PM"no call for homosexuals", and he's talking more about the "misleading" Last Supper prologue without really making a point. It's in the first part of the "review", posted separately.

MemberTrilobiteMay-06-2017 4:57 PMI said I would wait for Chris and I wish I had. This review seems to have a smug vibe to it. Sort of like they would be this way had the film went more the other direction. I thought the homosexual line was pretty nonsensical- as if they wanted to seem hip for mentioning there is a gay couple in the movie. LOL what a poor write up. We deserve it for peeking early!

MemberFacehuggerMay-06-2017 4:59 PMVariety is poor quality when it comes to reviews and it's writers are probably those guys who failed in film school and now hate films.

MemberPraetorianMay-06-2017 5:01 PMWell, the use of the term 'breeders' is pretty damned derogatory as well, equating the people aboard the ship and Heteros in general to be akin to nothing more than farm animals.
So, homophobic and hetero-hating is how I'd list that reviewer.
That reviewer really has no sense of manners, etiquette, courtesy or politeness.

MemberPraetorianMay-06-2017 5:16 PMTY for saying! :)
I don't mince words, and I'm not going to be 'nice' in regards to a 'reviewer' who plainly offers no respect to their readers. That reviewers comments regarding Homo & Hetero individuals were un-needed, un-warranted, and only serve to show how letty-minded that person is.
BUT from the above comments, I guess such a person is an ideal fit at Variety...and they can bloody well keep that person, as I doubt they'd be hired by/retained by any other publication that values their reader-base.
That is MY review of this so-called 'reviewer' and their lacklustre, low-mediocre abilities and unforgivable lack of manners and respect to their readership. :)

MemberDeaconMay-06-2017 6:12 PMDoes not cover too much that has not been leaked before apart from David playing Zelda Ocarina of Time ;)
If this movie can do as much justice to the Franchise as that Zelda Game does to the Zelda Franchise we are onto a Winner..
I am a little hesitant at the moment

MemberFacehuggerMay-06-2017 7:57 PMDepending on what day you want to call it, I stated earlier that there would be some critics wanting to make controversial remarks. Is there really anything in this review that is earth shatteringly new. Absolutely not. From that perspective it is not a review, just some cherry picked words strung together afetr taking in some of the more elaborate trailer information. This is shit at its best. It does not come anywhere close to being a review. I suspect a sci-fi phobic, media driven urge to be a great I am of opinion, whilst knowing nothing. They can stick that review back where the sun is still contemplating a big bang theory.

MemberTrilobiteMay-06-2017 8:33 PMBatchpool I also wonder if there is motivation to claim some sort of bragging rights to being "first" even though they violated the embargo.

MemberNeomorphMay-06-2017 8:43 PMWho knows if this guy really watched the movie on the 4th. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are considered Industry insiders, and they likely have access to the first test screenings. You cannot even tell what his veredict about the movie is. It could even be 3 out of 5, he is very condescending towards the fanbase too. The Hollywood Reporter is going to decide the consensus of the press in general. When both Variety and H. Reporter post bad reviews, it is not good news for the awards season an it will probably mean the overall rottentomatoes score will lean to 60% positive or less.

MemberFacehuggerMay-06-2017 8:47 PM@ dk Very valid point. Just a pity they do not have much to brag about.
