How much of the Prometheus storyline do you want to see?

Personally I would be pretty disappointed if they didn't continue the Prometheus story pretty heavily. I know some people would like to see the same move 8 times with this series but I thought Prometheus introduced some truly unique and interesting elements.

Is it possible that Covenant will not go as far deep into that storyline and will save a lot of it for the next prequel? (which is supposedly set in between Prometheus and Covenant)

I think they will have to cover some parts that connect to Prometheus but i think what they will do will raise more Questions that we can only assume the ADF Prequel Novel and/or the next movie will cover.

I agree @Utah, and I think they're in too deep with Prometheus to turn back. The "Awakenings" film will prob be pretty heavy "Prometheoid". I think they (RS and Fox) realize that fanbases for both are generally united but there is some division based on those story lines, but enough to create and fulfill a valid long-term market.

*Wasnt this thread called "how much spoiler do you want to see" or something when i started typing?

The only reason I could see the film not heavily touching on the Prometheus story line would be the general public. People will see Alien:Covenant commercials and may think its a direct sequel to the original alien series and not even consider Prometheus. But again, I'm sure the events of Prometheus will be a main focus. It wouldn't make much sense for it not to be.

What's the story, MUTHUR?

I think there is enough of a fanbase for Prometheus though that if they completely ignored that movie in Covenant, there would be indignation as well. They need to find a happy mix

@Utah I don't know how they could "completely Ignore" Prometheus. It's canon now. A:C has no choice but to live with the possibilities and storylines from Prometheus, It can't totally ignore them.

I am hoping, this movie or next, we see a closing of PROMETHEUS, with some explanations of what the Engineers were doing there and why. That 5 building complex wasn't just to serve a single easy mission to bomb Earth with Black Goo, there must have been something else going on.

Black winter witch, there may never be closure on prometheus to maintain mystery, perhaps the engineers just like to wreck weaker species, like predators hunt for sport. Engineers may just be a natural predator to humans.

So many ifs and buts, judging by the engineers savagery in prometheus, he instantly knew what humans were, immediately went nuts after being addressed in a manner he disliked and resumed the bombing mission, thats a pathological hatred, i think they just wanted to wipe us out as part of their agenda to manage development of species.

I made the comment when Alien Covenant was announced and how it seems a U-Turn to what Prometheus 2 was being set up regardless of what the Source informed me about.

I said way back after the announcement and the synopsis, that i wandered indeed did Fox and Ridley see that Alien 5 was getting more interest, and people was less interested in Shaw meeting the Engineers or their creators and wanting her Answers as opposed to seeing Xenomorphs running around and how the Xeno came to be.

for those who Read Spaights Alien Engineers and then Lindeloffs Paradise and notice that Paradise toned down a more action based Aliens on the Run and actual Xenos and Face Huggers kind of flick... these parts was replaced.

The notion that Prometheus 2 would maybe further go away from the Xenomorph, would have been a disappointment to those who was disappointed with Prometheus and indeed wished that it was more like Alien Engineers.

I think that and this is what i felt way back last year, that Fox and Ridley saw the hype for Alien 5, and they realized and this is what i put on here way back then....

That if they had a Plan to explore the Engineers the reasons for their existence, and ours and who is pulling the strings. While gradually over say 2-3 movies bringing in the Xeno Origin and Space Jockey Event, but firstly connect Engineers and why we was created and the purpose that LV-223 and Black Goo was for..

If this was the Plan.... but it meant a Spoon Fed Xeno Answer would not be on the Table, and our Classic Aliens would not appear until 2-3 movies after Prometheus.

If Fox had this plan, but they saw that fans was wanting the Xeno more, and they was more interested in Alien 5.

This would indeed make Fox Realize they need to take a different approach...  Change the Story a little to give hints to the Xeno First, to give Fans a more Alieny movie so that it can then hook them in.... and then once we have a Alieny movie, and a Alieny Sequel... the Fans may then be  Finally Happy and then want to KNOW... How the Ancestor to the Xeno came about. what was the starting point... if this was the Goo, then where did it come from... and then also what role the Engineers had,  and who created them.

So kind of like tackling things a bit in REVERSE to their Plans.

which is EXACTLY how i read Ridleys Comment about how he is coming in from the rear end and back door to Alien.

Finding out not so long ago, that Awakening could in some part stand between Prometheus and Alien Covenant as far as the Chronological Order is concerned... now does seem to add up to how i interpreted the way things have changed since the announcement around November 2015

@Blackwinter-witch

Indeed the Scope is Huge, no soon as they opened the Can of Worms that the Engineers was creators of Mankind or at least played some part and are the reasons for our Mythos and Religions...

while the Scope was Bold, its a potential Banana skin to do justice and its just the Banana Skin, that got me stuck when i was doing my own Prometheus 2 draft.

It potentially could be EPIC.... but potentially could be a slippery path to take and a distraction from the Franchise.

The notion these Engineers may also be acting under some other Hierarchy or even Stolen something from them, leads to a massive Scope far beyond Who is God of Mankind.

The Scope is Galactic, and could lead off to a massive Franchise Spin off... the Fire and Stone Comics showed some evidence of this.

But then would maybe going down this route, lead to FOX's Answer to the Star Trek Universe or Star Wars?  Is that something Fans would be interested in?

Because who knows how far this Hierarchy of Creation can go, who knows how Deep the Rabbit Hole of Worlds with Intelligent varied Alien Humanoids could be out there to explore.

They backed themselves into a Corner indeed... i just hope they dont try and brush it all under the carpet and think that killing all traces of everything Prometheus explored apart from the Black Goo and what One AWOL Android can do with it.

Which God forbid, leads to David creating the eggs from Covenants Colonists that end up on LV-426... seems they are going this route, but i think this is a Red Herring, as this route would back them up into a even smaller Corner...

Where well, Worm Hole, or Space Anomaly that sends David back 2000 years ago can only fix...

Love your posts!! Frankly my head's spinning from info-overload, combined with all the things I'm playing with in my works, and possible conections, event-linkages, etc.. :)

Fox has a massive potential on their hands, R. Scott knows this, he cited the explosive resurgence of Star Wars as what he saw the ALIEN franchise as being capable of.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see, but I am very much enjoying the intelligent speculation here!

I have to agree with the above that true closure of PROMETHEUS might not be in the cards.

They could have some (limited) things left from Prometheus like David and leave some clues to the Engineers and more about the connection to the Xeno. Prometheus had so many disappointing things in it so I am not too keen on seeing a lot from it being developed.

Keep David and eventually flesh out the connection Xeno-Engineers but make the Engineers interesting by making the Xeno connection stronger. Hopefully they will do a re-scan and see that the Engineers are not as closely linked to mankind as they thought first but more like 75%. Unfortunately, the Engineers came off as being lame in Prometheus.

Remove most of the Prometheus things and keep the Xeno connection but they need to have better human characters. The characters seem to be better done this time from what I have seen this far.

Let Shaw die a quick death, maybe she died when they crash-landed.

As far as Alien Engineers versus Paradise (what ever it was called) by Lindelof is concerned I wish that they would have gone more with the AE direction. It is not that they would have needed it to be totally like AE but more like it because at least it didn’t have as much stupid things like the one by Lindelof.

If Prometheus 2 would have had been even less about the Xeno then I would have probably ignored it because Prometheus was (and still is) a disappointment although to be fair not a total disaster. Maybe if they will be able to make the Engineers interesting it will be worth to watch a sort of Engineers 2 movie but if not then F it, I will see what people in general will have to say about it because I don’t want a Prometheus 2 being another one that is as disappointing as Prometheus.

Who made the Engineers, I am not sure if I care about that. Just leave that question alone so we can guess. I don’t like the idea of David being the one that made the eggs in AC they could do something more interesting with that.

Which elements of the Prometheus storyline are you referring to?

The main questions seem to be...

Who are the Engineers? Who created them / where do they come from? Why do they want to kill us?

What are the origins of the black goo?

Who are the Xenos? Who created them / where did they come from?

Covenant seems to focus on trying to partly answer the question about the Xenos, while giving a little more insight into the Engineers as well.

Both questions are, for the most part, equally important to me now. And I know more films are coming, so I'm not necessarily expecting firm answers to either questions right away.

If we're talking about what exactly happened directly after Prometheus, yes I do want to know, but won't be disappointed if it isn't addressed until a later movie.

Actually that's pretty much my answer to all the questions. I do want to know all these things, but I won't be disappointed if the questions aren't completely answered in this film.

Obviously we have some expectations, but I'm trying my hardest to limit them... because I know more films are coming, and I don't want to be mad at the end of Covenant if I don't find out certain bits of information.

So I'm hoping we get some significant answers, or at least one significant answer... a piece to the puzzle... but not the whole thing.  Because that's half the fun... seeing these movies and then theorizing and speculating everything until the next movie. But I don't think Covenant could top Prometheus in the category of "creating more questions than answers", and I don't think I want it to lol.

For AC, all I want to remember from Prometheus is David's story line and vague parts of Shaw and Engineers.

Just found this set pic from prometheus, you can't really see the engineers with the facehuggers on in the film as it's pretty dark.

Interesting elements is a good way to define the err.... "storyline" of Prometheus.

I would like to see a bit more storytelling put into the engineer race, the black goo, and what David's intentions are and why exactly.

@Thoughts_Dreams

I think that Alien Covenant may be right up your street, especially if they decide to leave the events prior to Alien Covenant a Mystery.

A Problem could be Shaw, its unlikely she just Died, if the movie showed she was used as a Basis for Davids experiments with her having little Screen Time and then we never need to see how this happened only why....  which Prometheus basically Taught us about the Space Jockey we know Why.. but we was not shown the exact Space Jockey Events.

So if Shaws Fate is to be used to obtain the Basis for Davids experiments without us having to see what lead up to this, then maybe this would be a Movie you may enjoy.  But i have a feeling they will cover Shaw more in Future movies.. I hope so, but i understand some Fans just want Shaw and Engineers brushed under the Carpet.

But then would the route David creates the Eggs that we see in Alien please Fans though?  I am sure there will be just as much to dislike with Alien Covenant as Prometheus.

For Example.. lets pick this Gripe some Have... with Prometheus.

What the Space Jockey Race is a Giant Humanoid who created Mankind was who we thought were the Gods and then they wanted to destroy us with that Black Goo that is connected to the Alien but they dont explain it...  I wanted to see the Space Jockey as Alien being not some Humanoid who was our Gods etc and i wanted to see Alien Eggs and Xenomorphs and Prometheus never gave us that!!!!

Alien Covenant could (this is a Assumption) not Fact... have people moan as follows.

What? You telling me that David the Android Created these Eggs from Experiments and killed all those Engineers and now wants to kill all the Humans....  And now those 2000 Colonists could end up being the Eggs, and a Human or Walter ends up being the Space Jockey.... you trying to tell us that the Derelict has been on LV-426 no more than 18 years and its not no Alien Organism but created by a Human Created AI, thats gone and killed off the beings who created the Space Ships and Biological Weapon that David uses to create those Eggs on the Derelict!!!!!

I think this is the Problem Fox did when they indeed went the route they did with the Engineers/Space Jockeys, it was a bold move but it divided Fans.... now they have backed themselves into this Corner, they need to carry it on...

By doing a U-Turn could just make things a even bigger Mess.

You're absolutely right Big Dave, as much as I want a fan-pleaser to sooth my disappointment, leaving the mess as it is doesn't help the situation.

Fortunately, since Prometheus is so incoherent with loose ends that are open to all kinds of interpretation, retrofitting events in A:C shouldn't be a difficult task.

Prometheus needs to be fixed using some "after-construction" in A:C

@MrPutterman

Indeed the Question is are these Easter Eggs?

I think going the route to give Easter Eggs that some will miss and not get, does actually and unfairly lead those who saw them and tried to make a connection and get hopes and interest up.

Then to ignore these in future movies as in anyway connected can be a disappointment...  Alien Covenant apparently has Easter Eggs that are left very open for us to wander is this a Red Herring Easter Egg or the Route they are going?

Here are 3 of HR Gigers Face Hugger Victims Concept works and you will notice the Top Two A and B are in the Prometheus Mural

You will also notice the Suits of those beings look more like the Engineers and the beings are Bald Humanoids... so there was influences way back in 1977

The Helmet differed but this was changed to a more Space Jockey One latter as Shown Below.

Also notice the Egg idea Evolved too and the Earlier one, fits more in line with the Urns from Prometheus.

I could go on about Gigers Concepts, but i can post images if needed, but his Concepts and Ideas did show/hint the Derelict ship actually has the Alien DNA, and this Ship is Grown and also that the Egg Silo, has Pregnant Bio-Mechanical Bellies that Produce the Eggs and the HR Giger Alien Mural which the 2nd image is from, was to be placed above these Pregnant Bellies showing us the Life Cycle.

They should have followed HR Gigers Ideas.

Which would have been.. For some reason the Derelict Bio-Mechanical Ships are Grown/Created and this Produce small Worm Parasites that are incubated in the Egg Silo and Grow into Eggs that are then Laid/distributed from those Bio-Mechanical Pregnant Belly type constructions.

These Eggs are then used ritually by Sacrifice by some Alien Humanoid beings.

The Question then is does these Humanoids Create the Ships and Eggs for some Purpose.

Or does the Ships (or Ships/Eggs creators) create those Humanoids or Captured them for some Ritual Sacrifice.

As part of this Ritual they make a Covenant with those beings that has some benefit to themselves but they would require to give up Sacrifices now and again.

Then have it those Humanoids had enough of this, and they Rebelled against this Sacrificial Purpose...  They then went to war against those beings who created the Derelict Ships and eventually Re-designed those Ships well create their own less Bio-Mechanical Ones by using borrowed Technology from there Masters.

Mankind was Created either by those beings who Created the Ships to replace those Humanoids as Sacrificial Hosts, or those Humanoids Created Mankind to replace them as Sacrificial Hosts.

THIS WAS the Idea i was pondering the Most in my Prometheus 2 Draft and follows more to HR Gigers ideas.
