Is it just me or can we not get back into being in space? Years ago I imagine alien taking place on a ship that was failing and drifting about. Sort of like gravity but with the tension of alien. Granted it made for more of the same haunted house aesthetic but just seemed so cool.

I think there will be some space set moments in A:C. The ground crew contact the Covenant, so there will be scenes aboard the Covenant.

The finale, might involve an airlock scene set on the ship, with Daniels and Tennesse in space suits, trying to get rid of a Protomorph?

That could happen Lone!

One of the many things that made Alien so damn thrilling was the ending where the audience was lulled into a false sense of safety, as Ripley's escape vessel left the Nostromo that was completely obliterated Death Star-style and we (at least many of us) believed that the Alien died there and then. Ripley, completely exhausted (and me, and my a** from all the clenching) and relieved. She was "safe".

How could the xeno survive? And more importantly, there's no way it could've managed to get on board the vessel before Ripley got there, right? How did it understand a ticking self-destruct system and the importance of humans leaving the ship?)

To our shocking surprise, a xeno hand was stretched out from nowhere in an instant (its long head+body cleverly camouflaged among the machinery and thick pipes within the vessel) And we were thrown into the nightmare yet again.

This ending formula was repeated in Aliens with the Queen and in Alien Resurrection with the N *gets 10 spearheads shoved close to my neck* ....I was totally going to say the Naughty naughty Betty Crew!!

The formula may have lost its element of surprise but that doesn't mean it still works imo, especially if you introduce it differently and as long as it's well made, it could work. That being said it is also a bit overused so maybe they should at least save it for later installments.

@Lone Hmm...you said it. Movies like "Alien", "Sunshine", and "Event Horizon" are made all the more horrifying because they are in the confines of space, and every move and every shot can bring down disaster!

@Starlogger

It's interesting that you mention Event Horizon because that film is an underrated sci-fi gem. The tension build-up is great even though the plot flips out at end imo.

AC will have i would assume about 15 minutes of Xenomorph on Covenant ship drama...

I think indeed a movie down the line on a Space Station would be tense, but then we saw this in Alien Resurrection but i think on a smaller Space Station with 1-2 threats could be something that would bring back the Whole Alien movie vibe...

But i think the last act of Alien Covenant will give us this (Last Act before the ending that is).

@Neo totally agree about the ending, but then again, Hell ain't supposed to be "pretty", lol!

"Sunshine" is one of my fave movies of all time, another underappreciated film. Slow "burn" (literally), but the tension and atmosphere on that spacecraft...man! Danny Boyle really did a wonderful thing with that one.

Starlogger Have you seen the rare deleted scenes from Event Horizon? To quote Paul W.S Anderson (the director) "they basically f*** each other to death"

Apart from that I liked the film, Sam Neill was fantastic as the scientist who literally gets obsessed with the groundbreaking yet strangely designed ship.

One of my favourite scenes is when he explains how the Event Horizon creates a black hole that enables the ship to pass through time and space instantaneously. Its greatest function was also its greatest flaw to say the least.

Fun fact!

That "demonstration on paper" scene from Event Horizon was completely ripped off by Nolan and used in Interstellar! Yeah, acclaimed director Nolan was inspired by Paul W.S Anderson's Event Horizon!

The original scene from Event Horizon (skip to the 1 min mark, also note the fantastic acting in that scene)

Sunshine was a surprise to me; never could I imagined that Danny Boyle could make such a good and thrilling sci-fi film.

Never could I also imagine that Boyle could do one of the best and most influential zombie films of all time; 28 days later.

What a fantastic and versatile director, capable of doing great drama, action-horror and sci-fi films.

Maybe a Alien Isolation movie, according to the Art of Alien Isolation a lot went on before the arrival of Amanda Ripley:

The Gateway Riots - the residents fought with security in a mad scramble to get off sevastapol when trade practically ground to a halt.

And when the Anesadora showed up, well all hell broke loose.

Space, space stations, space scenes, space crash, space suits, robots, more modern buildings on surface, etc. - I would like to see at least one Alien movie containing these elements.

Something similar to the world that can be seen in this painting by Peter Andrew Jones:

From what i have heard the new sci fi movie coming out this week "Life" is like Alien meets Gravity. It has a great cast of actors Jake Gyllenhall, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson and it looks tense and clausterphobic. A couple of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes from film critics state that three are borrowed themes at play, as its an alien creature killing off astronauts on a spaceship so they say its nothing new, i disagree thats like saying all westerns are unorginal because you have a guy with a gunbelt riding a horse in all of them. Its about execution and after reading the reviews and my own anticipation and love for scifi horror when done right (agreeably it isnt done right often)..i have high hopes for this one. Anyway just a heads up that it is suppose be exactly what you call for in your original message on this thread....hope we all enjoy this new addition to the genre

Yea it seems that Life will fit that bill. We need more original film and sci fi stories. There are tons to draw from. Looking back it would have worked out better had Danny Boyle stuck with the Alien IV project and had been able to work with Alex Garland on developing it. Resurrection was said to be more of a Poseidon adventure but was really impractical and not in touch with the realities of a ship in crisis.

Sunshine was fantastic and evidence that Boyle can do sci fi. 28 Days Later really is one of the best zombie flicks ever.

Looking forward to Life, for sure.

@Neo I absolutely have seen the deleted scenes, and loved it. Interstellar was a little bit painful, but still interesting. Not a "fun" movie, lol!

There are theories, that Life is a Venom Prequel...

@Woolson

They are theories by silly fan boys, this in no way is connected to Venom. the makers of Life have debunked this as well, a lot of this has been promoted by click hound sites on Facebook such as Movie Web etc. its not a Marvel film with Marvel rights attached anywhere on it. I believe what started it was Columbia Pictures used some stock footage of crowds that resembled crowds from a scene in Spiderman 3 and the silly speculation that this is connected to Venom took off.

It is not connected to Marvel or Venom in any way, trust me.
