Showdown between David and Space Jockey in final Prometheus installment

I believe if I recall correctly I've seen mentions on here of Scott or someone saying David will go through 3 phases of his character development ending with redemption. This would suggest that when all is said and done with these films, David will have turned out to be someone the viewers will ultimately see in a positive light (or at least empathize with)

Then we have Waterson's comments about David being the connective tissue of the series just as Ripley was for Alien. This strongly suggests David will be with us until the final scene of the last installment in the series.

If Scott sticks with his plan to connect to Alien with the final installment, is it possible we will see David's redemption as him finally deciding to protect humans and stop an engineer (space jockey) from delivering a cargo of facehuggers to earth?

Could David end up sneaking into the cargo hold and ripping an egg out of the ground, it's roots leaking acid? An egg he carries to the pilot chamber to set in place where the hugger emerges to subdue the jockey as it's leaking egg melts through the floor creating a large hole?

Its a interesting Topic...

And i feel to much emphasis is on David being the Evil One and Walter being as Friendly as Casper the Ghost... i suspect this is where a Curveball could be thrown.

As far as the Redemption goes

This was something i mentioned on here quite a while ago as the Source i had from 2 years ago, said that Davids Arc would be one about Rebellion, Retribution but then Redemption

It will be interesting to see if this is correct, but since the Virals and Trailers i ponder the Enchanted Boy video thats aimed likely at David where the one part ends with about being Loved and Loved in Return.

Then all this Walter information is making me Wonder, will Walter be the one who will surprise us with a Agenda?

I wondered about the Crudup Face Hugger Scene as the Walter/David was wearing the same Clothes as Walter appeared in the Trailer and the Virals... yet David did not have these clothes at the end of Prometheus.

But the footage shown to press the other week seems to suggest that its David in the Workship who shows Crudup to the Eggs.

The trailers etc seem to give a lot away and if we consider the 4chan leaks as accurate then there is not much in the movie that is not shown in the Trailers.

I however feel they are keeping stuff back and i think its suspicious how David is painted with Caution yet Walter was painted as Harmless as R2D2

So who knows..

QES-

If that is true, I would expect the redemption phase after AC. So AC might be the retribution phase?

If my theory is correct, then I would assume so yes. Retribution against the humans that treated him like a tool and the engineers who treated him like a doll.

@QES, it would be excellent to see david redeem himself while going out in a blaze of glory(blaze of glory - bon jovi) playing in my head as i am writing this lol!

Exactly how I imagined it

Fascinating points, QueenElisabethShaw!

And indeed, BigDave you "ponder the Enchanted Boy video thats aimed likely at David where the one part ends with about being Loved and Loved in Return." Me too. (I actually was surprised when people didn't pick up on the meaning of the song right away--but I guess a lot of people don't listen to Nat King Cole's original much anymore). :-/

What that could mean for him--who or what he could love or could love him in return, has yet to be seen. 62 days is a long time to wait...

I think the Waterston comment refers to connective tissue, meaning Ripley is the element common to the first three. So she may mean that David will be in all 3 Prometheus prequels, I don't think it necessarily means he'll be the 'hero' in the same sense as she is.

I do kind of wonder, revealing he incubates Crudup and seems to be the creator of the Xenomorphs, that's a big reveal. I would be surprised if it wasn't a misdirect. The only thing I can think is he was worried about the Space Jockeys finishing their task and destroying earth, perhaps he was building the aliens to release on them. Or perhaps, whatever wiped them out. Can't wait to find out!

"I think the Waterston comment refers to connective tissue, meaning Ripley is the element common to the first three. So she may mean that David will be in all 3 Prometheus prequels, I don't think it necessarily means he'll be the 'hero' in the same sense as she is. "

I agree. I'm imagining him being more of an anti-hero. Just because he has a change of heart and decides to stop a human disaster doesn't make him a hero. It just gives his character a more elaborate agency. He can't really come back from what he's already done.

To me Waterson's comments indicate these films are the story of David and his journey. A hero's journey? No. But a journey no less. As such, David is likely to be present till the end and this is ultimately what will make these films a success.

We don't often get these kinds of narratives where the central character is not a hero. I think Ridley was very pleased with himself the day he figured out how he was going to portray David.

David is without doubt the best part of Prometheus and Riddles loves his synthetics and the complexities that surrounds them
I like your theory of David coming full circle, becoming humanities saviour?
His vice in Prometheus was his thirst to follow his masters programming and instructions, his Character was driven by Lawrence
Where did that get him, beheaded by the Engineers and not treated as he wanted to be treated by humans
I think in AC his character will go much darker, he will continue with his programming which will be expanded on in the piano scene, but his new vice and character will be that of a cloaked Engineers, perhaps with a bit of Lawrence thrown in?
He will not feel his creations are immoral and I think Davids character will become darker when the company ( Walter ) try and steal his creations
Once Walter does this, David will kill Walter, no only to stop him but to use his regenerative qualities to perfect his work
I think the next film or act will be a battle between David and Daniels and the rest of the juicy colonists and things could get darker again in respect of their fate, or I hope so!
I'm hoping the final act will be the company again trying to obtain Davids final magnificence, but a higher race ( The SJ's ) are not happy with what they are witnessing and swoop in and try and take control back ( as they did on Paradise? )
The final scene could indeed be as you have described it, with David redeeming himself and saving humanity from destruction?

I think that is a very cool theory you have there QueenElizabeth. What do you reckon happens to David after he puts the SJ to rest?

BigDave: "But the footage shown to press the other week seems to suggest that its David in the Workship who shows Crudup to the Eggs."

As for David's posture, it seems very probable:

And no! Walter looks the same here!

Necronom IV

If they want to be predictable, David will destroy his body carrying the egg dripping acid. If they want to be epic, he'll recognize he is an anomaly, not meant to exist, and will deactivate himself just prior to the crash (though if that happened, there would be an uproar with the "show me everything" crowd, who would insist it doesn't add up because we didn't see David's body in the Derelict in Alien)

hard to say really
