The Xeno Diet

Original script and novelisation for Alien has them springing the Alien in the food locker.  Dallas (or Parker) burst in a torch it, only to find it's escaped into the main airduct.

Some of the old comics have them eating (apparently they dig on swine).

The commentary for AvP:R talks about an Alien eating one of the guys killed at the high school pool.

I've always though Alien 3 was a bit ambiguous as we never see them actually ingest anything.  It often looks like a dog chewing on something rather than eating.

The runner appeared to be eating of a copse to me on Alien 3.

I've thought so too.It goes in line with its animal tendencies

Someone on youtube actually gave this question a fairly extensive treatment. It's a little over 8 minutes. Some good points are made. Also, for those who wish to only review the scene of the runner "eating" which the OP mentioned, it can be seen at the 2:20 mark.

@S.M yes good point. In Alien: Resurrection (*gag gag*) , Ripley 8 says "they'll come where the meat is" referring that she knows Xenomorphs eat meat. And in AVP: R, you can see a xenomorph eating one of the jerks in the school like S.M said.

But SM had said the same was i was going to, especially the Alien Draft idea that they found the Chest Buster raiding the Food Locker.

there is also a theory on youtube that the acidic blood, though a useful defense. is infact used more in the way acid in a car battery is used. is theyr energy source and the consumption of meat isn't a daily requirement, only more of a jump start kind of thing. theyr teeth certainly discourages any notion of them being a veggie lol
