so in the alien covenant trailer we see the guys backbones coming out of his back. an enchanting image yes yes. So the question is....how do you think the alien goes about doing it? Is he putting his feet against the inner front of the rib cage a trying to unbend its knees with his back against the spine? like when you try but yourself up against a door to keep somebody out

cant remember clearly enough but if im right, u might just see the tips of the back spikes either side of the spine start to pierce the skin which would suggest yes it comes out back first, I think

I think it's either:

1) using the back of its head to puncture through.

2) using its tiny arms to burrow out.

Good question!

Acid

Look at the burnt skin tissue around the gaping wound, other than that it'll probably try to use its back spikes and aggressive force.

agreed, for force it would be easier to push out back first

acid....that sounds painful! i just had another idea that i can combine with your acid thing! the alien does something like what i said in the original post, but instead of sitting against the spine and pushing on the front ribs with its feet, how bout it's in breast stroke position still using its crazy little feet to push off on the front ribs while nibbling and clawing through the back muscle and maybe it slices its fingers a little purposefully so it can use acid to help

I am surprised the guy can sit upright during that ordeal. I would expect him to collapse on the floor.

i'm surprised he didnt scream 'whats infuckingside me!?'

I think he's dead in that image. First he looks like his entire nervous system is being ripped out, then he just slumps. I hadn't noticed his skin dissolving, how awful.

I imagine Carmen Ejogo will do some dissolving too, that's a big knife she's got there.

Yeah I'm also surprised that he manages to maintain that balance considering what's happening inside of him and the fact that he shakes like a jackhammer, then again we only get to see a couple of seconds of that scene.

I'm sure he drops to the floor the moment after. Either that or his ass is literally glued to the operating table.

dead? maybe. i saw the photo of a room that looks a lot like the one this happens in. looks like theres a bloody flesh mass on the floor. if this is the same guy it its probably because all his torso bones were shattered and theres nothing to hold him together. hes just a pile of body

The theory of acid makes a lot of sense,  considering there are a lot of bones and thick muscle tissue to break through to escape out the back. Not to mention the spine itself being flexible and sturdy. The acid could dissolve the bone and surrounding tissue making it easier for the Neomorph to break free.

In terms of how,  I see it using its dorsal spikes to initially break through and weaken the back,  followed by its crest, like the Deacon, being the primary wedge used to bust out from the host.

This is going to be extremely graphic to watch...

Exactly what I thought, and suddenly a very good explanation to how the Neo manage to burst through the thick bones of its host; acid.

I wish this idea will be retrofitted to the traditional chestbursters in the future as well, as there's no way they can realistically get that momentum and strength to violently crush through the chest (considering how small the chestbursters are) without weakening the bones first.

The Hammerpede was another unusually powerful little creature as it managed to invertedly snap idiot Milburn's arm like a toothpick. Not very realistic.

That's the idea though, these things are incredibly strong and hostile. Forget realistic. Let realistic go. Embrace the surreal. You're getting very sleeeppyy.....

Acid would be interesting...

But i think its more a case of Brute Force... but it would have to use some leverage and so indeed, using its legs and arms to push against the front rib-cage and allowing the Spines and Head to Tear out of the back...  looks the most likely method.

"hes just a pile of body". Indeed. That amount of thrashing would reduce all vital organs into mush.

so the reason why his back splits open like that i am not sure but we do know that the neomorph uses the spikes on it's back to help it escape from the host although i am thinking that based on how his back splits open it reminds me of when you try to push something through a hole that is to small, the hives that you see on his back are most likely an allergic reaction which would also explain his bone white appearance, and my guess is the the original blood squirt we see in the trailer is it using it's spikes to penetrate his ribcage and skin making escape easier.

Look upon my works, you mighty, and despair

Dr Swojd

I wondered that too- it does appear that the spine is part of the neomorph rather than an obstacle to its exiting the host.

I might be totally wrong about this but it looks like it is punching itself out, like you can imagine a car getting a dent after it has been in a car accident. To me it seems like it is smashing its way out of the unfortunate human.

i'm imagining we shall see his entire back violently busted into a bloody mess of bone..muscle...and flesh ......might even be an outpouring of organs! but which will be more disturbing? ....this or the headburst?.....and what would make one more horrifying than the other??
