2 guards outside Weylands room in Prometheus

New here! Alien movies have been fascinating me since I saw Alien way back in 1979. Recent trailer, some unclear things in Prometheus and comments from Fassbender today forced me to finally signup and ask the following:

Reading Fassbenders statement "as far as we know" makes me wonder, what happened to the 2 guards standing outside Weylands room as Vickers enter appr 1hr 33 mins in Prometheus movie ? I don't see them as a part of the team entering the Juggenaut, so I suspect they were left in the ship, or in the truck ?

Could these guys have survived in the lifeboat being hidden somewhere? Were they forgotten by Janek and killed in the crash ? (Maybe discussed before, but I have not seen it)

Could there be alive Engineer's in the final departing ship. It now appears Shaw and David were not alone, or is it just a fake statement from Fassbender ?

Another question, how does David know which planet in the 3D starmap that were the Engeineer's origin ? Hi mentioned that he believed he could take Shaw there using another ship, but they could have ended up somewhere else ?

The broken statue in AC indicates a connection to the Engineer's homeworld though.

Welcome to Scified, Mork! Great to have you ;)

Good questions! I always wondered about the continuity of PROMETHEUS' crew size. In the opening text, it states that there's 17 individuals. However I doubt Weyland, his guards, or any synthetics were included.

Perhaps the guards are still on LV-223, wondering what in the world is in those vases lol.

Or they escaped with Shaw and David....

At the moment, the popular theory is that there was a hibernating Engineer within the alien ship. And in COVENANT, he was awakened to wreak havoc.

As to your last question, I just think David was a fast learner and well accustomed to Engineer navigation that it was easy finding the home-world. Sure they might've taken detours, after all you can never trust an android! Heck, the ship in the trailer might be completely different from Shaw's.

Though he would have had to teach it all to Shaw and she would sit in the chair. Wonder how THAT worked out...

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

The guards were unfortunate victims of continuity.  In the original cut they were in the hanger accompanying Weyland, David, Shaw etc. when Fifield attacks.  Everyone apart from  Weyland, David, Shaw, Jackson and Ford were killed.

S.M. , are you indicating they were killed during Fifields attack ? That was appr 1hr 26 mins in the movie and the guards are still there at 1 hr 33 mins beside the entrance of Weylands room.

In my view there is nothing in the movie that tells their destiny.

Each person who died could be seen in the movie, except these 2 guys, which I find a little bit strange. Maybe synthetic guys so Janek did not care prior to the crash.

If they ended up in the life boat I guess the Deacon would have finished them in no time.

This will be a very slow winter/spring..... I'm hoping for succes and quick decisions for more to come. Ridley is soon 80 years old (still in good health though). Should Fox add the same 4-5 year delay between Prometheus / A-C to the next and the 3rd , he will be close to 90. This must be sucess with full focus on remaining sequels/prequels within 2-3 years.

They were originally killed in Fifields attack.  The original sequence was - Shaw stumbles around the ship post-op, finds Weyland awake, Weyland and David prepare to visit Engineer, as they get to the hangar Fifield attacks and Barnes, Wallace, Entragian, Furdik, Sheppard, and Taplow are killed.

After Ridley re-cut the film, Shaw stumbling around the ship was intercut with the Fifield attack which lead to the continuity error showing guys alive who should've been dead.

The only real explanation is they died in the destruction of Prometheus but Janek (and the audience, to be fair) had forgot about them.

Was going to reply in SM defense...

But he already did so himself/herself..

Prometheus was one butchered movie... cut to shreds and a lot is re-arranged..

As SM said... originally Weyland was being taken to the ATV when Fifield attacked... with those two Guards... the scene prior well the shot of Weyland when he is revealed was prior to the Fifield attack not during.

it was actually Shaw who ran over Fifield.

This kind of stuff happens when Re-shoots and edits happen, that are different to the trailers...

Rogue One is the same... some stuff cut out.. some scenes from Trailers completely re-done....   without me giving away Rogue One for those who have not seen it.

Weird cutting indeed !

When running the Fifield scene I can see in the background that 2 guys are preparing the Rover, probably the 2 guards. I also see that there is already at least one person inside the Rover when they try to escape into it from Fifield.

I can drop these 2 guards since they evidently were killed by Fifield.

Thx for helping.

In some ways, we ought to thank Sir Ridley Scott for his occasional ineptitude with regards to unintended plotholes and continuity errors. Otherwise, we'd have nothing to debate and speculate about!

As much as I personally might feel your Christopher Nolans and James Camerons of the world are superior craftsmen, their work is so close to perfection that there is barely anything up for discussion and argument!

@Stan

"Otherwise, we'd have nothing to debate and speculate about!"

Agree, and it is very engaging. It would also be interesting to see a team here with the best writing, editing, concept etc chops to take all these ideas and make a season or two show based off many of the ideas here. That would be something!

Unfortunately in this instance there's not much open to debate.  It was just an editing decision that Riddles and Scalia hoped no one would notice.  And they were mostly correct.

I'd argue that some of the plot points in Interstellar were a bit ropey and that Avatar was disappointingly predictable. Not to mention Cameron's writing of female empowerment.

If this were the thread for that kind of thing.
