Yes! A King would be good.

The Queen wouldn't kill Ripley/Newt(Aliens) because of her unborn baby pods......I'd think a king wouldn't have this problem!!

What purpose would a King serve?

MonsterZero

Protect the brood....Queen is a sitting duck while she's birthing.

If the Xeno happened on Earth 100 million years ago....T-Rex...Raptors and other REALLY nasty, large animals would be in the mix. I think the Xeno would have it's way on today's Earth....300 million years ago? Not so much.

King can round up food and multiple warm bodies.

Work on the car and the mow the lawn too.

Any normal adult Alien can fulfill those functions (incl. the car and lawn).

Yeah..on Earth. (Squishy humans running around...kitties and puppies everywhere. Adult alien will probably rule the roost.)

But if this a serious galaxy encompassing life form..... I have my doubts this creature is going to survive.

Heck...I don't think it would last very long on Pandora(Avatar).

It's the King's porn habit I'd be curious about.

MonsterZero, you seem to forget that Xenomorphs fear nothing and that the power of the hive is a great thing. One xenomorph is dangerous, but a army of them is far more dangerous. And even a single Xenomorph is a killing machine. Acid of blood, spear tipped, whip like tail, razor sharp claws, a second, skull crushing jaw, intelligence and the ability to take on the characteristics and abilities of its host. There is a reason they are the Perfect Organism, without mercy, remorse, or delusions of morality. As for the King being a glorified drone, I think it would be more than that. It would probably act like a male lion. Protecting the brood, then kicking out the maturing princes and princesses (young kings and queens) from the hive so the species can spread. It probably does help with the hunting and the killing, but may only help collect hosts when the hive is just starting to be formed. Once there are plenty of drones, the king will probably focus less on host collection and more on defending the hive and bringing home a bloody carcass for his queen.

@KingKaijuGojira

Oh, I realize how nasty they are....And I like the Xeno's just how they are, no need for improvement imho.(so no queen or king is fine by me)

But against intelligence they are in trouble.

Find a nest? Nuke it from orbit. Or send in the Marines(sans Gorman). They seem to be terrified of fire(avoid forest planets).

Not exactly the terror of the galaxy. Out foxed by a little girl and no match for well armed senior citizens.

I'm sure the Engineers are working harder(when they're not sleeping) to correct any flaws.

Also Monster Zero, T. rex lived from 68-66 million years ago, not 100 million years ago.

@MonsterZero

While the Xenomorphs are not THAT smart, they are still very intelligent. Remember how they found their way around the barricades in Hadley's Hope. Remember how they got Hudson from beneath him. Remember in Alien Resurrection when those two Xenomorphs turned on the runt to use its acid blood to escape. An instance shown again in AVP when the Xenomorphs attacked their Queen to draw her blood to melt the chains and free her. The Xenomorphs aren't smart enough to possess technology, but by no means are they stupid. They are smarter than they appear.

The King wouldn't make sense anyways sense there are no ant kings, bee kings, or any kings in any eusocial organisms. Drones (Not workers) are usually the only male that lives in any eusocial community thats sole purpose is to mate with the queen... essential he is a sex slave. Then you have the Warriors, who protective the eusocial community, then you have the workers. So yeah, a King wouldn't make sense.

No need for a King. The Alien is Alien because it doesn't share basic Earth based biological methods.....

King Xeno would be 'rule of cool'. This is Hollywood. If they can make a buck, there will be a Xenomorph king.

Although it makes a great action figure, I don't think we need him.  In fact, I don't think we need a queen either.

I like the simple, external, asexual reproduction done by mixing ingredients in an egg sac.  That's what makes the xeno so hideous.

Agreed a King (and Queen tbh) is unnecessary. I'm a bigger fan of the Egg Morphing means of reproduction, but James Cameron established the Queen and it's part of the Xeno biology - whether by result of a specific host and adapted traits or by design, Queens exist. So, it's not totally absurd to assume a King could exist. The issue is finding a purpose for the King. Perhaps unfertilized eggs birth standard Facehuggers and standard Xeno hosts, but fertilized eggs birth a completely new monster?

What would be cool:

Fertilized eggs morph into Xenos (no need for hosts)

Unfertilized eggs birth Facehuggers (hosts required)

The King could be worked in as yet another alternative and adaptive method for survival.

Sure the Alien King wouldn't be necessary for the Hive idea of the xeno's.  But considering that they take on genetic characteristics of the hoast organism; imagine an evil nasty giant mean creature that is some how facehugged and thus the King.

Why would it be any meaner or nastier than a normal Alien?

Chris

Assuming there is some form of hormonal difference between the male and female Aliens, if their biology is at all anything like Earth-like males and females, the heightened levels of Testosterone in males would lead to higher levels of aggression. So, I could see it - again, assuming their hormonal makeup is similar to all the animals on Earth.

I believe if there is an alien king it would be like the one in the Aliens rogue comic. Man made to try to control the xenomorph.

@Dinardo

Yeah, because its a King. The King would interfere with the Queens authority.

I can pretty easily see how a king would fit into a hive, and how it'd work out well. It may seem unneeded- and that's because, well, technically it is! But just because a hive can well survive without one, doesn't mean he couldn't bolster it well. Queens, by official math shown in the second movie's trivia, lay 15 eggs per hour. That adds up real fast given they're laying constantly, and each and every egg not just needs a host, but the resulting Xenomorph is going to need food, water, and space to live like all the others. While more numbers means more Warriors & Drones to hunt for prey & hosts, it also means they're stretching themselves thinner to cover enough area to find all that food. A bigger hive is both more powerful, and yet, more potentially vulnerable.

So what good is a King? A king can not only pair with a Queen to increase potential for royal offspring (she seems to mostly suppress her own genes for that to make normal workers, so adding his own would help up chances) which helps the species populations and hive numbers on that planet. This also gives potential for a Queen to become an Empress, if she can stay dominant over her neighboring daughters. He's a walking tank standing between the hive and any big threats. And, though warriors are plenty good at hunting, it doesn't hurt to have some extra muscle to take down bigger, better quality prey for the ravenous swarms.

The hive doesn't NEED a King to survive. But he could definitely be helpful. He could definitely make a situation a lot scarier for anyone facing down that hive. If he helps a Queen become an Empress, well, that's even more fun potential.

I also kinda imagine him being akin to a bigger, better Praetorian in terms of ranking- he's not there to contest authority. There's no point- he can't lay eggs, he doesn't have telepathy or the right pheromones, he can't run the hive. But he is there to defend the Queen and keep others in line for her. Help keep it running smoothly. Like a second in command, the muscle for the brainpower of the operation. The hive is still a monarchy.

Perhaps less why, more, why not? It could work, and it could be great.
