What is the host origin of the Xenomorph's inner jaw teeth tongue?

I wondered where the xenomorph originally got it's inner  jaw teeth tongue from, from what host? (if it had one)

In prometheus we saw the Decon morph reveal it's lower jaw....but where is it's origin to appear that way? The engineers don't carry this feature, so where did it originate from?

One could only imagine where the black goo originated from...It's a hot topic on Scified posted by a number of  Inquiring members seeking to find answers like myself. Was the black goo developed or extracted? Could there have been an origin host that carried this particular feature? was the lower jaw teeth tongue intentionally designed by the engineers for pure carnage? or is this a trait that naturally appears in any scenario of the black goo mutation?

HAWLEY GRIFFIN - Now that is an extremely interesting question! I have also wondered at length about the origin of the Alien' s second set of jaws. Indeed, was there a host animal that evidenced this trait originally? I know that Morray Eels have what is known as a pharyngeal jaw (a second set of jaws to help them feed). Perhaps the origin host was similar?

Maybe it's the Chestburster?

HAWLEY GRIFFIN - Hahaha! It is so bizarre, is it not? They actually have another set of jaws at the back of their throats that reaches forward to help grab food and pull it down! They are certainly a very interesting species of eel! Thank you so much for beginning this thread; it is extremely fun! :)

I think your question is regarding this scenario..

Sacrificial Cup Goo and Urn Black Goo  are the SAME

This substance created the XENOMORPHS...

Then indeed it is a bit of a puzzle.... as Engineers dont possess it and Humans and indeed most life on Earth and so we cant use how some Organisms on Earth have a Pharyngeal Jaw as a answer...

So this is open for debate if we take the above stance..

However if the Xenomorph had a different Origins, or it Evolved in a different way on a far away World or the Result of different experiments or even if its Progenitor was a Organism the Engineers never created...

Then we have the answer more easily... and if we take that the Two Goos are not the same and Urn Goo is the result of the Sacrificial One being used to break down the DNA of a Xeno Related Ancestor then stored in those Urns... this would make more sense to the connection between Deacon and Xenomorph.

Or for that matter back tubules, spikes, biomechanoidal exoskeleton, tail or the whole no visible eye thing. So many questions! I have always thought that the basic body plan is perhaps always the same, with minor changes depending on atmosphere, host etc. Maybe there is an origin species Xenomorph which all others evolved from. I guess we'll have to wait to find out.

I would really rather never find out, keep it a complete mystery!

It is interesting though, especially the tongue and the Chestburster appearing quite similar!

Giger's Chestburster was inspired by Francis Bacon's 1944 Triptych called Three Figures at The Base of a Crucifixion. Ridley Scott suggested he look to it for inspiration.

As for the Alien and it's tongue. Giger said he had nightmares and when he woke up, he began using his airbrush, and the creatures of his Necronomicon were born.

As we know, for the Alien he adapted some of those designs, chiefly Necronomicon IV. He concluded that, part of the purpose of the elongated cranium could be to contain a weaponised, retractable tongue with teeth!

Apologies for going off topic Hawley! :)

Agreed Mystery would be good..

But Ridley lost creative control of what came next after Alien... how the Eggs would be revisited their purpose and how they came to be.

Cameron and Co had influence on that as far as explore the Xeno...

But they never touched on its Origins... or the Space Jockey... and so Ridley has the chance to explore and explain these things and put his rubber stamp on them..

Yes Ridley may or may not think its best kept a mystery... but he knows eventually people would want answers...

If Fox know they can make a movie to give the fans these answers.. and make cash... then when Ridley had long gone..

If he has not answered these things... someone else could come along and be given the task by FOX to explain the Origins.. and it could be done in a way that would make Ridley, Giger and O'Bannon turn in their Graves..

Predators anyone lol

It's lots of fun to imagine where the xeno's inner jaw comes from within the Alien/Prometheus fictional universe, of course - but for me the most insightful answer is that it originates in the sado-masochistic, Freudian themes of Giger's art.

What makes the beast so horrifying and fascinating is that it is a dream-monster expressing dark fantasies. The mouth is a 'vagina dentata' (lady-part with teeth), the inner jaw a phallus with teeth that penetrates and devoures, the long smooth cranium is like an erect penis, the mouth (and in Resurrection the whole body) oozes with  fluids reminiscent of sexual fluids. The facehugger violates as it inseminates its victim.

It all adds up to a creature that expresses thoughts and anxieties (mostly male, but not entirely, i reckon) around penetration, destruction, devouring, pleasure, pain and death. This is what makes it such an unforgettable beast. We are fascinated by it, appalled at the same time, we feel we should look at away but we want to look more. The beast is a-moral, it feeds and reproduces without conscience. Our fantasies want to claim the same freedoms, but our conscious, civilized selves forbid it. And so dreams are the places where such desires are codified and expressed, and the beast is the best expression of them in all of movie history.....

Remembering previous discussions about the Birdy-Creature, with some MORB characteristics, I wonder if it could tie-in to the evolutionary process.

It has significance, in that it appears on both the mural and above some of the doorways in the dome-temple.

I always had the idea that each silo/dome's Head Room may have contained different species. Perhaps some of them even had eggs instead of urns? Therefore the creature depicted above the doorway would be different for each of them. Perhaps one of those species was a predecessor of the MORB?

Anyway, I can knock this idea on it's head, because none of the other temple rooms were ever explored!
