I feel like the manner in which Will Smith's character from the first film meets his end for Independence Day Resurgence is a tad weak...

He was a fighter pilot, piloted Alien craft before with very little training and they kill him off in a test flight accident?! What a sad, anticlimactic way to kill off a main character. What do you think?

Besides that I thought the trailer looked incredible. Can't wait for Summer 2016!

I feel like this is a good way for Emmerich to pull the "we covered his death up" card if Smith ever decides to come back for another movie.

Honestly, I enjoyed Independence Day Resurgence in pretty much the same campy way I enjoyed the first one. So I really don't understand why there was so much hate. That being said, I do think the movie missed Will Smith quite a lot. There wasn't quite the same charisma without him. But to me there was still plenty of campy fun. I wasn't expecting Citizen Kane. To me these movies fall into the So Bad They're Good category.

But it seems like it would have been worth waiting for Smith to finish filming Suicide Squad. Ultimately it would have been much better for the (potential) franchise.
