To see if I am the only one who feels the way I do, I decided to set up this thread and ask one question: in relation to Spinosaurus, who else is against Rex Redemption?

I am a Rex fan, and have been all my life, but I'm also a Spino fan and honestly I hate the idea of Jurassic World trying in some way to show that Tyrannosaurus Rex is better than Spinosaurus. As much as I wanted to see some kind of cameo for Spino in the film, now I'd rather they left it out if they have no good intentions for it.

The fact is, there are Spino fans out there, and do something like having the T-Rex knock over the Spino skeleton is really just going to wind up bothering them, even if it makes the Rex (only) fans happy. It's just repeating the original scenario again (having Spino beat Rex, bothering Rex fans), but just switching sides.

I could be the only one who feels this way, and if this thread gets no comments I'll get my answer, but I was just curious as to whether or not I was alone in this.

Note to Rex Fans: As I said, I am also a fan of T-Rex. A big one, actually. I simply don't like the way  Jurassic World might be handling Spino, the same way you guys didn't like how T-Rex was beaten in JP3. This post was in no way supposed to annoy, frustrate, bother, upset, or in any way insult Rex fans.

Thanks for reading!

Sorry pal but T-rex needs a revenge.

Therizinosaurus for JW2!

Less about need and more about Rex fans simply wanting it to happen.

Im a fan of both,

So whether rex gets a revenge or not is ok with me, after all the spinosaur skeleton theory and my ideas about rex redemption ive shared with the sight are mere speculations and theories, :)

Not entirely, the skeleton thing was in the Lego game trailer...

DINOZILLA0439 - This is a complex question you have posed; one that I shall attempt to address in an objective fashion.  You ask "Should there be Rex Redemption?". The most intellectually honest answer I have is this: there is nothing to redeem. Tyrannosaurus Rex is the world's most popular and beloved dinosaur; it is an animal that has captured the imagination of young and old alike since its discovery. The fact that one movie displays another animal besting a T-rex in mortal combat does little, if anything, to detract from T-rex's fame. What we see here is, in my opinion, an infantile row between two fan groups ardently proclaiming "My dinosaur is better than yours!". Is it not easier to come together and celebrate these fantastic animals for the amazing wonders of biology that they were? Why leap at one-another's throats over liking an animal when we all like dinosaurs? Why wage war over a topic on which we all agree? Such internacine battle is fruitless and, for lack of a better, childish in its brazen disregard for intellectual honesty.

As an aside, I absolutely adore T-rex; he's always been one of my favorites! However, with the new information concerning Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus, I must say that S-Aegy has risen to become one of my all-time favorites as well! There is something utterly majestic and powerful about the new aquatic form; almost like a great sea dragon of myth! :)

Something Real,

That's actually exactly my point. There isn't anything to redeem. There is no dinosaur, whether it be T-Rex or Spino, that is better. That is why I set up this thread. Because it's less about "Should there be Rex Redemption?" And more "Do we need Rex redemption?

T-Rex is already more famous than Spino. Just because Spinosaurus bested Rex in one fight doesn't mean that the studio behind Jurassic World has to do anything. All the Rex fans want something to happen like the Godzilla Vs. Zilla fight, something that 'proves' that Rex is a better dinosaur. But the bottom line is that it proves nothing, it just causes even more problems.

What you're saying is a good point, and it's what I wish would happen. I wish JW would just leave some kind of 'Rex Redemption' out and just drop the whole thing entirely; yet I have a strong feeling that that isn't what will happen.

And yes, I agree, I also adore T-Rex. It is an awesome, fascinating dinosaur that I have been a fan of my whole life. But I have also always been a fan of Spinosaurus, who is just as awesome and fascinating.

DINOZILLA0439 - Your standpoint is one that I believe would be most effecacious with regards to bringing the dinosaur community together as a whole. I am, however, of the same opinion: I doubt that Jurassic World will provide a more sober manner at looking at the uproar between Rex Fans and Spino Fans. As such, I fear that this "Rex Redemption" will only exacerbate tensions between the pair of opposed groups. What I desire most is for the community to realize that we all share the same interest! Who cares if a movie shows one dinosaur killing another? They are bloody donisaurs! Why can we not simply enjoy them for what they are? Additionally, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus never had the chance to come to grips with one-another by virtue of being removed upon the evolutionary ladder by, oh, several million years at minimum! Therefore, any film that displays combat between these two animals is nothing more than conjecture - and likely the work of an overzealous fan! :)

Something Real is right, this is really about "my dino's better than yours".  Jurassic World is not about that.  Jurassic Park is not about that.  Even better than coming together is to "celebrate them" separately.  Spino is Spino.  T.rex is T.rex.  No contact because of different time periods and different continents.

My viewpoint on Spino and T-Rex being separated by several million years is different than yours; However, I wholeheartedly agree with every single other thing you said.

Sadly, its the reality. Humans arent contented to just admire something because of how majestic it is, they will always look to compare great things to other great things, . .Thats why the Indominus rex was created.

Saurornithoides,

That's actually a good point... The Indominus Rex really is a symbol of that, now that I think about it.

Something Real and Dinozilla:

Cause in reality, this is what you hear from people.

"Whoah, cool lambho man! i wonder if its faster than the Bugatti?"

"That building is so tall! is it taller than that one in Dubai?"

People will always seek to compare, its our nature, if not with dinosaurs then probably by phones, cars or houses. We are always amazed and drawn to something better than the ones that are already great. :)

I'm not sure if anyone else has brought this up, but has anyone thought that the "Rex Redemption" being spoke of is metaphoric in relation to JP3? In that T-Rex's proverbial redemption has nothing to do with Spinosaurus, but rather the possibility she may win against a dinosaur/monster even stronger, smarter and more violent than Spino? Wouldn't beating a top ranked fighter prove you're more worthy than the #2 ranked?

I feel like the definition of "Rex Redemption" as of late has been the idea that Rex will stomp out Spino. That isn't necessarily the end all definition for said redemption.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

Yeah, I was thinking it would just be stupid to satisfy some fanboy's need of "redemption" of a CGI model of a dinosaur clone beating another CGI model of a dinosaur clone in a Science Fiction movie. (Not to mention at the time the movie was made the models of Spinosaurus and T-Rex were fairly accurate at the time...)

It just annoys me because people don't even appreciate how complex and amamzing it is that such creatures were able to evolve and walk the Earth, all for a sequel just to make fanboys wage war.

If there is "Rex redemption" in the movie, and if it is obviously made for Rex Fanboys, I don't know what my feelings towards the movies will be.

I love Spino, but I just like T-Rex. (To be honest, over the years of having it be bashed in my face and being called King here and there, etc., it's just become some other animal to me. Sure it was amazing, but- meh.)

But in the end, Something Real is right. It's all about the fanboy arguing which is better.

So here is how I think is a constructive way to settle which is "better":

SPINOSAURUS: This possibly 60 foot long majestic AF beast was probably pretty terrifying to look at. Just imagine siwmming and this thing coming out and being all SURPRISE M______ER!!!! And chewing your face apart and maybe even slicing your body with it's claws. And all whiel swimming fast in a river.

T-REX: Alright this thing had banana sized teeth. Seriously. 15 ton bite force. Just imagine walking in the forest taking pictures of the trees and what not when this bastard comes out of the trees and just picks you up and walsk to it's nest to just drop you on the nest so you can be fed to the baby rexes that are still able to f@#$ing rip your face apart into shreds. The point is this giant "chicken" would completely have you screwed.

So which is better? Well, they're both terrifying, majestic, and fierce predators. (Probably). The difference? Well different environments, prey, and different evolutionary changes.

No animal needs redemption. The fanboys can go ahead and demand a sceen of a Rex literally ripping Spinosaurus' head off, and the other fans can go ahead and demand a Spino slicing a Rex into shreds, the point is, you can be like me:

Admit they were borth pretty f*cking awesome.

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely, Raptor-401.

Has anyone considered that the #RexRedemption was only in context to Jurassic World?  Maybe I.rex does in fact defeat T.rex, goes around spreading more terror, when Rexy comes out of nowhere, tries again to kill her, and wins?  Or something like that.

Raptor-401

MemberAllosaurusJun-03-2015 10:02 PM

Well I never thought of it like that... Though as I once said, personally I would be interested in seeing the I-Rex at least kill one T-Rex...

Raptor-401,

Yes, very well said. You have my applause and agreement.

Something Real,

Thank you, I appreciate it. :)

Gman2887,

Yeah... hadn't even thought about that, actually. Makes a lot of sense

Overall, I think this post has been a success so far, in that it has accomplished my goal; to bring people together and agree that there doesn't need to be a 'Rex Redemption', because both Spino and T-Rex are awesome dinosaurs.

MemberCompsognathusJun-03-2015 10:30 PM

Yeah, I would like to see Indominus defeat one T-Rex/temporarily take one down before a rematch. Or, I would like to see it flat-out beat down Rexy before it (Indominus) loses.

GMAN: yes i thought about it before, come to think of it i dont really know why i stopped pursuing that idea. :/

UPDATE: I remembered just now, it was because "Diabulous Rex" didnt sinked in to me yet, i                                mean his existence have just been confirmed during those days and people were still                              debating whether a dino hybrid is really acceptable in the JP universe and if this new                              dino badass could live up to the likes of spinosaur and t-rex as the main Antagonist, it                            was actually the party plates that sealed the deal for the indominus. :)

ALPHADINO: Yeah, i also thought about this idea, but i remember why i didnt continue on this one, i thought if T-rex and I-rex fought early in the movie none of them would actually walk out alive or if one actually did manage to get away, the animal would be too weak from injuries that it wouldnt probably be able to walk without limping and of course it wouldnt be able to fight anytime soon.

The problem is fanboys. Now, there are people of the opinion that I'm a fanboy, but here's my take on it. Rex gets killed by Spino, Spino fanboys show up because this thing killed T-Rex, so obviously it's better than everything that ever walked the face of the earth (extreme cases). Then, you get the Rex fanboys. T-Rex was killed, this is bullshit, that shouldn't have happened, blah blah blah. There's also the general public, who don't give a damn. The Rex redemption, if it is to destroy the Spino skeleton, is not really that necessary. As Something Real said, T-Rex doesn't need redemption.

Just the same, the me that saw JP3 8 years ago when I was 8 would probably be saying the Rex redemption is a must and it should destroy everything in its path. Aren't you glad I'm not 8 anymore?

Jack of all trades. Master of none

I don't think it's always neccesarily about the spinosaurus itself, so much as what it represents (JP3). Some sort of in-joke like the skeleton, I suspect, wouldn't be taking a shot at the animal itself, so much as the maligned film it came from. For the record, I personally don't mind the third film (it's merely a disposable romp), this is just my theory.
