I got Godzilla on blu-Ray and was enjoying it thoroughly until I got to the monster scenes which are all at night. And I honestly could not see a single thing. I was also watching it at midnight so there wasn't any lighting issues. Some of my friends argued that it is just the film being dark. But I never had this problem in the cinema or when streaming. Do Any of you suffer fro. The lighting too?

I don't know what version you have but it was largely criticized when the movie came out on bluray that the picture quality was god awful. I'm not sure if a better version has been released since then, but I personally had to turn the brightness settings up on my tv to get a good picture with the movie version I have.

The Blu-ray version was okay for me.

I bought the blu-ray on Amazon and play it on my Xbox One, and even when I turn my TV on vibrant I still can't see anything. I might check out what it looks like on Sky as it just came on premiere. Overall though I'm not impressed with the quality....

Yes, I have that problem too! Set my TV on vibrant and turned the brightness up too. This did help, but the night scenes are still a bit dark!

Same issue watching it on Sky, I've altered the contrast and brightness again, but those scenes are sometimes still hard to make out!

I hope all of Godzilla's scenes in the sequel to be in daylight! :)

Oh, indeed I do.

From what I've heard, the quality is not very good already, but it's worse for me because my TV is old and the lighting is terrible. I pretty much can't see it at all.

Just watched it on Sky and it fares better in my opinion, still dark though, it's just confusing how this didn't effect me at the cinema or streaming.

@Kingofthemonsters

Well because the theater had better lighting quality, and some online streaming websites may, also. But the quality of the lighting in the DVD is not good,

I don't know what you guys are talking about the lighting is perfect on my blu ray. Try it in a 3d blu ray player thats what I used.

@The Gigan

Well, what kind of TV do you use? I suppose if your TV is good quality maybe the lighting might not be bad. But if you use an old TV like mine, trust me you pretty much won't be seeing any action other than the daylight scenes.

Yes, this is a problem many have complained about. The image quality itself is actually very good. It's a matter of color filters. The fact is Warner Brothers home video put a grey filter over the theatrical version for the Bluray/DVD release. Why they did this I don't know. They must have felt it looked better on calibrated HD panels.

The problem is most of the market, even myself, don't have perfectly calibrated HD-TVs. So the grey filter over the home video version of the movie has made the night scenes too dark. Thus you have to mess with the brightness AND contrast settings in order to watch it decently.

Standard definition tube TVs are pretty much a bust. You're at a loss if you're trying to watch the movie on one of those. It will be too dark.

The 3D version of the movie apparently doesn't have this issue. There is no grey filter over it and it is the original theatrical version. I can't confirm this personally however since I do not own a 3D panel or player.

Toho released it on Blu-ray a week or two ago. I'm trying to find out if the grey filter is on that version. If it's not I'm going to import Toho's release.

^I've got it... and the quality still sucks on toast. -_-

But its worth it for the bonus features and the SHMA figure. :)

Danzilla,
That is absolutely depressing to hear. So Toho just used WB's home video transfer? Shame.

I have a 3D blu-ray player and TV.

If you have a backlight setting on your TV...goes from 0 to 20 on mine, I set it at 20, this does help with the night scenes!

Hmm, I found this from a pretty reliable source. Take it for what you will:
