Will we get a Prometheus film then every two years an Alien film then potentially another Alien film if they choose to proceed with more Alien films after this newly announced one. In fact, should there be considered another potential trilogy of Alien films to be the succesor to Aliens (part 2)?

Maybe if Disney buys it.

Major Noob, that's hilarious. And it should be animated, like Toy Story. I can see it now: Hey kids, gangway for Outer Space Adventure in Disney's Alien 5:The Search For Cash! Starring the vocal talents of Billy Crystal, Tom Hanks, John Goodman, Tom Kenny, Jerry Seinfeld and special guest Roseanne Barr as The Alien Queen!

BSS1973-I just really question how even one more Alien film can be made, especially since so many well known elements are being Resurrected (sorry, had to) to make it happen. I am curious about what Blomkamp will do, there are certainly aspects of the story that haven't been explored. But the basic premise is done. Ridley knew that, that's why he gave us Prometheus, to the dismay of many (not me). He even said there was no point doing another Alien, as there was one at Disneyworld. I don't know if that's true, but its a good point either way.

HyperNova- I want to apologize, your post was sincere and I came back with snark. I couldn't resist! Your question is a good one, and I just have to answer with "I hope not". I love Alien and would love to see it go on, but how? And one of Blomkamp's paintings showed a queen, which is cool but I'm a fan of the egg morph idea. But who knows? Maybe Blomkamp has a great story to tell. If so, I'll eat my hat.

Major Noob, I'm always baffled when people want more Alien movies. It's so hard to live up to something like that, although Blomkamp seems gifted enough to actually do it.

Hey Major Noob, I had thought of making a response to what I felt at first was a slight curt reply to my posting, however you were reasonable enough to return in kindon an even keel and I welcome that - good-on-for doing so good-Sir!

BSS1973 - I sense you are still maintaining your slight hardened position on this matter, we all are here to just talk and we should be nice towards each other. Major Noob was man enough to go out of his way to make a point of re-trackting his original position and I commend people who can find it in themselves to do that. In any event lets try and make an effort to get along and be nice towards one-another...

HyperNova, is it actually possible that you are suggesting I owe you an apology, because I found humor in something someone else said? I would hate to think you are that petty, selfish, manipulative and small. I'm sure you are not, that would be egotistical on a gargantuan scale, and not something any sane adult would take seriously, after all, my post had nothing to do with you whatsoever and it would take considerable leaps of logic to make that case. I'll apologize anyway, I'm sorry. Obviously, I find the notion that I owe you an apology offensive in the extreme and wonder if perhaps you owe me an even bigger one, but I have no interest in an apology from you, and would suggest that you not make one. I have no need for it.

Again, in trying find some kind of common ground BSS1973 your tone is still borderline on curt, sharp, sacastic replies as if you have something to prove. We're all here to take intrest in general conversation material but sometimes its down to the individual to regulate their attitude towards the general subject matter of others and the impressions they are trying to create and judging by yourclast post, once again it is laced with an apparant edge of sarcasm whichbis unesessary and borderline inappropriate. Why can we both not just return to topic and converse in a more dignified tone and try to regulate the narky sarcasm so we're not wasting our time with posts like this particular one and yours just prior and instead concentrate on interesting topics to talk about and less showing off...

In any case the prospect of a new Alien film is intriguing at best and would be keen to get back on topic to converse on the practical reasons why they shoukd or shouldn't commit to the idea.

LOL...

I actually thought the comment about Disney was a joke, and should been taken as it, because thats what i was also going to put...  i understand the reason for that comment and its a valid one, in that we surely dont want to see the franchise exploited to the degree that Disney could do with Star Wars...

To be honest i think everyone has pretty much ran out of fresh ideas for movies, the writers and studios can not really come up with something fresh and new and so the easy route to to go to a Classic Franchise and rehash it over and over....

The 60's-90's was a Golden Era, of ideas, and since the 2005+ seems Original ideas have gone, and its far more easy to just redo some of the old movies...

We not have a new Terminator movie, but there could be 3 more.... with Arnie in them all yikes!

I dont want to see Alien go that way with 3 more movies and have Sigourney in them all..

But same with Star Wars after EP 7-9 they are doing another 3-4 movies, 2 rumoured to be about Classic Characters, one which will included Bounty Hunters so we see Bobba Fett and his relationship with Jabba... a rumoured Ewok movie, and then they are thinking of going the route of a TV series spin off... maybe the Shield Agents one is to the Avengers movies.

In defence of Star Wars it like Star Trek is a massive franchise that can be explored that way...

Alien...  Sadly is not.. not as far as the Xeno.... it would be like doing Star Trek movie after movie and TV series with just Klingons and Romulans....  or Star Wars where its Jedi vs Storm Troopers.

But the Alien Franchise has potential, and that is to make Alien part of a different Franchise and so to have movies set in the universe but not just about Alien as in Xeno..

I think Ridley is trying to do that with Prometheus 2... but there is so much potential with a Franchise Exploitation as long as it does not include Xenos all the Time.

1) We have Weyland Company and Yutani a bit of history into those companies would be great, they are not just centred entirely on lets go get ourselves a Xeno, like Whacky Racers Catch the Pigeon....

What about the Androids?  Why so many models, and why was the older models twitchy, we could see a kind of I-Robot and Chappy kind of flick here to be explored.

2) The Engineers and their creators, surely as beings behind the creation of not only Mankind but other life in the Galaxy, this leaves the door open for a spin of series, set vastly far away from Earth and Mankinds reach.. and also nothing to do with Xenos.

These Engineers could have created other races in their image; in other parts of the Galaxy that mankind cannot reach, because in the Aliens Universe they do not have like Warp 9 Speeds.

But saying that the Xeno has been done over and over, in such a way that the Classic Image of it has been somewhat diluted......

Take ET a Classic, take Gremlins Original Idea too, if they made a Gremlins 3,4,5 they would lose that Magic, if they made a ET 2 they would lose that Magic, especially if they went for a ET 3 and 4 etc....

I can see some movies need sequels... Cloverfield looks like being left as a stand alone movie, a one off and no sequels but the end of the movie there was a message backwards saying its still alive..

But i guess while they have gone the route of us having the Xeno exploited left right and centre and fans expecting to see Xeno connections in Prometheus, how much more damage can a few more Xeno flicks do than what has already been done...

And if Ridley gets to have his input on a few more, maybe he would like to see Alien Xeno movies the way he wanted them to be shown....

But for me, i think its time to leave it alone to be honest..

Thats my oppinion and off course that does not mean i am correct.

Here is all i want to know about the XENOMORPH!

1) Some Clues has to the Origins of the Organism, was it found by the Engineers, or created from something else they found, or just created from scratch?

And which ever of the above was it a intended result or a accidental one, maybe a accidental at first that produce something they then tried to recreate?

Such things could be answered without giving us a Xeno flick, just a little more less Ambiguity than Prometheus and a movie that visits LV 223 again, and other temples with Androids interpret the Engineers Murals and Writtings and maybe a flash back is all thats needed.

2) I would welcome a movie that explores the use of the Xeno DNA, or Black Goo that then produces some interesting Organisms that maybe have less in common with the Deacon at the End of Prometheus and Xenos, but that maybe is more like the Hammerpedes or some other Organism that is different yet we can see Xeno DNA traces.

Hey BigDave you raise some interesting and intriguing possibilities on your posts and in reading them the thought occured to me: how do you think the prospect of some kind of Alien-like, Prometheus-like TV showthat woukd explore the holeWeyland/Weyland-Utani mythology and all aspects of Androids, their creation, manufacture, intelligence gathering on the Xenomorph, information on the Engineers, back story, etc. Think the TED Talkwith Peter Weyland as the tone to set the show by, corporate espionage, political dark dealings, evn producing it along the same vein as the Halo tv series or online series, Netflicks or Amazon Prime productions. There is so much material to mine that you could effectively just recreate the graphic novels, comic books and stories in novels, background information and continuing mythology as a drawn out television concept for people/viewers to sink their teeth into.

I think the Weyland - Yutani related TV or Movie would not be hard to cover, its pretty straight forwards but that does not mean that it has to simple, there could be some out of the box ideas added to it.

We could see Colonial Marines movie and i would actually rather seen that as the (Gift to Fanboys) where maybe LV 426 is not quite destroyed... or they uncover something on LV 223.

But it does not have to be about Xeno or Engineers, as a Colonial Marines could include a battle against revolting Androids.

As far as the Engineers go, well this where the posibilities are endless, and it really depends on how they explore the Engineers...

Here is a list of things related to the Engineers that could be explored or have not been answered but clues given.

1) Why did they create life, not just on Earth but in general?

2) Why did they come to visit and teach and evolve Mankind?

3) Why did they decide we had to be destroyed? (this one is not too difficult)

4) Was LV 223 always a outpost to create experiments designed for death?

5) Why had no Engineers came back, and how come those on Paradise seemed to not come to visit LV 223 or Earth for a long time? (This is one of the biggest questions)

6) Who created the Engineers, and what is their hierarchy like?

7) What state is Paradise in?

8 ) What else have these Engineers and their creators created and will we see any of it?

9) Where and when did the Bio-Tech (Space Jockey suits and Juggernaughts) become technology of the Engineers and how did they create or get their hands on it?

10) Why does their seem some connection between the Engineers, their Tech, the Xeno and the Mural/Fresco and the contents of those Urns on LV 223?

I think those are 10 most needed topics that could need covering as far as our Engineers, and certainly what Spaights draft had left seeds for, and Prometheus clues... and logically seems many could be answered in Prometheus 2 Paradise.

But to what extent, we dont know and depending how they answer any of those will then open other doors to other venues and stories that can be explored.

To be fair when Ridley said no More Dragons and Gods....

I think he hinted they are basically steering away from the Xeno and connection on LV 223 and maybe even LV 223 which leaves a lot of unanswered questions, while after Alien the Space Jockey was a Mystery we kind of had a rough idea...  and vague one, that allowed us to use our own judgement about what was the purpose and story..

But Prometheus expanded that left us many clues but not enough and now could abandon the ideas....

The Gods aspect, i think they are stepping away from the whole Engineers are Gods who created us and visited us and who we then worshiped and then spawned various religons from...

Sorry you cant just go that route and then shut the door on it, as its opened a can of Worms...

But this topic is a tricky one and one that when i was starting on a draft for a Prometheus 2 and 3 and ideas, this was a topic that was very very hard to cover... one i had various ideas that did not fit with each other.

Now the Xeno connection and LV 223 and LV 426 connection which i was going to give few clues to, was pretty much easier to cover.  But posed some conflicts with some of the ideas i had about the Engineers and Paradise, depending what way i was going to explore them, had a impact on the connection to LV 223 and the Xeno.

But the bare bones of the Xeno i had down to a few explanations...

What was far more easy was to cover, what happens on Earth and Weyland and the Weyland Yutani Merger, and a rescue mission for Part 3 to LV 223.

My ideas for Weyland had a few twists....

surfice to say my draft included flash backs and dreams not only from Shaw, but David too and also Engineers.

And it would have cast... Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, Lance Henriksen and Sigourney Weaver but not in ways that are lame or that you would think about..

Pearce = Weyland both flash backs set prior to creation of David 8, to dreams of David 8 and even David 8 having imaginary friend Weyland was a posibility.

Theron = Vickers but in a suprise way... and a big part of the plot.

Henriksen = Younger brother of Weyland who would inherit the company with the absence of Vickers and Peter... Lance would have make up and hair different so he would not look like exactly Bishop but slightly, i.e so you can see resemblence...

Weaver would be a relation to Shaw (Louise Mary Shaw) Shaws Granmother, in a dream and the one who took Shaw on after her Father passed away when she was a Teenager, there would also be a older related Girl who then in later scene at Weavers Funeral would be pregnant and tells Shaw she has decided on the name of her unborn daughter.. "we have decided on the name Ellen" "and i only think it fitting she carries grand mothers middle name"

"and me and Scott Ripley (her partner) are going to get married next month when he comes back from a tour with the Marines.

This sets a connection to Shaw and Ripley, it allows Sigourney to make a cameo, and shows where Ellen Ripley gets her name and looks from but also her Warrior Spirit from.

PS... if you liked that way to connect Weaver in the movie and Ripley etc..

Well i ant going to spoil the plot for Vickers and the conflict with  James Weyland (Lance)...

But by the 3rd movie it would be his Son Bishop Weyland who inherits the company (Bishop would be played by a man in his 40's who would not appear to look like Lance Henriksen i did not want the Genetic link to progress so simple... i,e so father, granfather and son did not look alike...

Bishop Model Android would be named after Bishop Weyland but would be based on the apearence of Bishops Father James Weyland... but i was also thinking of having it that James Weyland had 2 sons, Bishop and a younger Micheal Weyland i.e from Alien 3, but we would not see him...

so by the timeline of Alien 3, Micheal Weyland would be the owner of the company...

Also i was thinking of having Bishop Weyland merge the company with Yutani but another idea was a rivalry between Bishop, and Micheal in which Micheal is one who betrayed Weyland Industries and stole all of Weylands sectrets and paternts to give to Yutani and force a Merger and create Bishop Android.

I've got that sinking feeling about alien 5 now : http://www.rottentomatoes.com/mobile/m/chappie/ never been able to get into his work apart from his early short film looks like the reviews are beginning to dip too now. Never understood why so many liked district 9...Still I guess there is always hope...:s . Really want to see one of those really top directors getting a sci fi job soon...

We have to remember that Prometheus also got bad reviews on there....

And it is hard to make a block buster nowadays... look at all the Sci Fi, the Comedy, Horror and Action movies released in last 10 years do many actually stand out?

Not really...... nothing Original and those that are a bit Original are not done so good.

Mainly the Thriller, Drama and Fantasy Genres that seem to pull off more big hits over last 10 years or so...

Rotten toms given chappie 32 percent so far surprisingly promethues got 74 I think a bit high but not far off my thinking of 60 percent I must admit I frequently dissagree with rotten toms but if so many slate it you do start to think maybe it is bad I guess ill still check it out.

Good sci fi last 10 years :

ex machina was good at least I am told it is - still need to see it. Interstellar was pretty good, moon was very good. star trek the first new one was brilliant! Edge of tommorw quiet good sunshine was great cloverfield was very nice just needed part 2 :P . People seem to like inception and dont forget avatar even though I thought it was awful its the highest grosser... But yes none as good as alien as such. Money has messed up creativness a bit it seems. But I feel great films are comming through just need to find them. I did think jj abrams was going to be the next spielberg type god like director but he has done a few stinkers as well as amazing films...I hope a few new directors come through soon I think there are a few potentials...

Prometheus was one of those movies that got slated by the general puplic and Sc Fi casual fanbase...  A lot of movies dont do too well but then get a bit of a cult following and the rattings go up latter.. The Thing (1982) is a prime example, Cloverfield another and Prometheus fell into the same category...

I think Prometheus had good point as follows..

1) Tried to open some new boundaries and give us a interesting plot... (Engineers and Mankind).

2) Visually it was well done with a few disapointments (Fifield Scene, and Engineer Scale).

3) The whole thing from music to sound, to effects and setting had a element of well done polish to it...

But it had a number of flaws..

1) Very Confusing to work out such as paceing (but a lot was edited and recut).

2) Made attempts too give some clues to a Alien connection, but then seemed to then go off and not give us enough, leaving what looked like peices of a puzzle with a lot missing that you could not just put it back together.

3) The movie gave us some interesting concepts, but then just as above they like dangle a Carrot in front of you and then dont provide the full Goods... by that i mean they leave various clues and plot ideas half done...

Something which future movies can address? that was the hope.

I think Bottom Line...

The Casual Viewers would not make any connection that this was a Alien movie, but one that well looked ok, seemed to be telling a bit of story, then switch to something different with not finishing off the other part.... it kind of had a Lindeloffs Lost TV Series way of how it ended up being played out.

So fans was like... what was that all about?

The more Sci Fi fans who kind of knew it was connected to Alien some how suffered some of the above and ultimatelly could not make a real connection to Alien.

So fans like.... how did that connect to Alien and is a Prequel?

The Alien Fanboys, well they would understand the movie a bit more but some would be disapointed that well, they was hopping to find out what connection the Space Jockey Race had with the Xeno and Why, and how did the Xeno come about...

Spaights draft would have fed them more of what they wanted, but the one we got ended up showing us vague connections and so the fanboys never quite got the explanations they wanted.

Also some would have liked to had seen Xenos or Face Hugers even if slightly different like Spaights draft... Others was disapointed in how the Space Jockey became the Engineers.

So they would be like.... Well i dont think that was as good away to connect the Space Jockey and Xeno, they hardly explained it and made it more confusing!

Then we have the Ridley Fanboys, who in general was happy, some would be Happy with anything that bears a Ridley Scott name..

Then we have the fans who had taken time to watch and study the movie, those who have made some sense, those who would feel a bit more could have been done, but the bread crumbs are left to get them to look forwards to the Sequels and some may hope for a more clear answers.

But over all they realise the Scope and where Ridley was going with the Movie, and i guess we see this movie is the prelude to a bigger better Story that is waiting to be told.

Could of been worse at least it wasn't another terrible AVP movie. : )

I love Prometheus, I think it was a really cool movie. I came up with my own little theroies to "fill in the blanks"

I think the reason why theres a difference between the Space Jockey and the Engineers is either:

A - They were two different factions of the same species

B - They were two different roles in their society (Alien/LV426!Engineers and LV223!Engineers were like bomber pilots), while (IntroPrometheus!Engineers were like Enviromentalist or gardeners)
