What Will The New Toho Series Be Called??

I dont think it will be a series, but rather one standalone film that if it is successfull will be made 2 years after legendary's is done.

If I had it my way, I might call the upcoming series something along the lines of "Iconic" or another similar descriptor in order to set it apart from Legendary's Godzilla. Regardless of my input, this was a very neat topic to consdier! :)

Gorilla - they are conpeting with lengdenary (sorry os early) and there trying to make the first one the best g film ever which I'm sure it will kick 2014 arse! Them we got 2018 and 2020 (most likly) so yea gareth is gonna lose probably

^ They are not competing, i dont think the film will even be released in america. Toho cleary stated they didn't want anything to do with Legendary G, they actually are just doing it to make a Japanese Godzilla.

Toho loved Legendary's Godzilla, why do you think they would want to stomp it?

and look I know your hook on the lengdary films because they brought you back and I respect that buthreat doesn't make them better from the classics. And I see why you think they can't beat 2018 but if they really wanted to they can bring better monsters into play! In fact something I never said in my argments about contracts is Japan just does it by a handshake, they don't sign crap. So they can take away the rights from lengdary if they wanted to! The only way I see lengdary winning is by workinh with universal and making Godzilla 3 a Godzilla X Pacific Rim, Godzilla X King Kong, Or Godzilla X Pacific Rim X King Kong

It might be too early to say but I somewhat agree with HFTT. With 2 series going on simultaneously there's no doubt that at least amongst the facts they will be heavily compared and debated which movie or movies between the two are better.

They will be compared and debated by fans, but that's not Toho's or Legendary's doing. That's simply the fanbase. Why would Toho compete with a studio that's making them money? The reason they're making this film is not competition, it's because Godzilla's popular today and they want (and need) to capitalize on it. Because who knows what his popularity will be like in 2018.

The line, "We will not bow to Hollywood," was something of a quote lost in translation. That's literaly translation, yes, but it's more akin to a locker room pump-up speech. Not a declaration of war or competition. It reveals that they're not trying to compete, but rather push their industry to where Hollywood is. They want to get to the impossible level where the American film industry is. (Even though they lack both the manpower and numbers to do it-- So it seems overzealous.) But I'm glad the Legendary film inspired them to do more than sit on their hands.

As for the movie itself, of course it will most likely be a series. When has that ever not been the case with Toho? Or any popular franchise for that matter? I'd rather wait and let Toho name the upcoming series though.

I think it will still be part of the millenium era, but i belive it will be more than 1 movie, toho whants godzilla to be a big icon for the 2020 olympics

I feel like they will do what Legendary did, make it a stand-alone, but leave it open for potential sequels, or maybe do what they did with the Millenium, and make multiple stand-alone films.

I was under the impression that this new era of Godzilla was dubbed the Legendary Series, as it was commenced by Legendary's film; both applying to the American releases and any Japanese releases.

The Legendary Series only applies to the films produced by Legendary.

^Yes, since Toho seemed like they wanted to differentiate their series from Legendary's I doubt they or the fans would label them under the same category.

^I mean... maybe. Most of these names are fan dubbed anyway. Toho hasn't labeled it anything yet. I can't remember when "Millennium Series" settled in as the name for the third series. In the early days of the Millennium films some fans were trying to force the word "shinsei". (meaning "rebirth" or "revitalization")

There probably won't be a widely accepted name until late in the game.

The reason I think "Millennium Series" is the name considered the most official is because that's what TriStar referred to it as in trailers for their DVD releases. I'm pretty sure "Shinsei Series" comes from the tagline used in Japanese theatrical trailers for Godzilla 2000, "Gojira Shinsei." Fans in Japan seem to prefer calling it the "X Series," since the movies tended to use "X" instead of "tai" or "VS."
