230 million years ago, it seemed as if reptiles were invincible. Then a new species came on the scene, the dinosaurs. They ruled the world for 160 million years, they ranged in all shapes in sizes from the tiny Compsognathus to the massive Aregntinosaurus. In this series we will be exploring the prehistoric Americas.

It's the dry season in prehsitoric Utha. Only the most advanced dinosaurs can survive here in the dry season. A herd of Stegosaurus and Kentrosaurus are searching for water.

Herd

Normally these herbivores are peaceful but, in these tough times they'll do anything to get rid of competition. A family of Dryosaurus are following the herd for protection.

Dryosaurus

Then the herd sees a small pond of water, only enough for one or two individuals. The stegosaurids and Dryosaurus raced for the water. Many stegosaurus and Kentrosaurus were brutal injuried. Them the ground started shaking, it was a herd of Apatosaurus and Camarasaurus.

Herd

The largest animal there was a bull Apatosaurus. It was 90 feet long and 35 tons. The Apatosaurus pushed evrey other dinosaur away. And drank, a Kentrosaurus noticed a decent sized bush. The Kentrosaurus went over to eat before any other dinosaur noticed the bush. The Kentrosaurus started to eat, then a pair of jaws slammed shut on the Kentrosaurus skull. It was a Ceratosaurus, the Kentrosaurus was dead instantly. Ceratosaurus are the last of their kind but, their deadly then ever at 2 tons Ceratosaurus are big.

Cerato

But, their are bigger carnivores in the area. A example of this is Allosaurus like the a Ceratosaurus this Allosaurus has been following the herd for days.

Allosaurus

The Allosaurus has noticed that the Ceratosaurus has made a kill, and intends to steal it. The Allosaurus roared at the Ceratosaurus the herd sccatred. The Ceratosaurus normally wouldn't  challenge an Allosaurus but, it's desperate. The Allosaurus is ten feet longer and a ton heavier. Both carnivores charge the Ceratosaurus is easily pushed aside the Ceratosaurus started to stand up before he could the Allosaurus snaped its jaws shut on the back of the Ceratosaurus neck. Luckily for the Ceratosaurus the Allosaurus has a bite force less then a lions. Even though the Allosaurus bite wasn't strong it was getting the job done. The Allosaurus teeth were starting to crack, so the Allosaurus slammed the Ceratosaurus against the ground. The Ceratosaurus retreated.

It's been 7 months, it's now the wet season. A Allosaurus is stalking a herd of Stegosaurus. The Allosaurus is cautious, it knows just how deadly Stegosaurus can be. The Allosairus surveyed the herd, it noticed a young Stegosaur that was on its own. The Allosaurus took its chance. The Allosaurus charged inbetween the Stegosaur and it's herd. Even though this Stegosaur is young it's still dangerous. The Stegosaur swung its tail at the Allosaurus. The Allosaurus dodged the Stegosaurus tail, then flanked the Stegosaurus. The Allosaurus rushed in and slashed, the Allosaurus kept repeating this until the Stegosaurus succumbed to its injuries. Suddenly the Alloaurus heard a roar. from a four ton Torvosaurus. Torvosaurus aren't common but are huge.

Torvosaurus

The Torvosaurus charged the Allosaurus side stepped. The Allosaurus slashed the Torvosaurus with his talons but, it didn't have much of an affect. They butted heads, the Allosaurus was dizzy after the head butting. The Torvosaurus took advantage if this and clammed its jaws down on the Allosaurus face. The Allosaurus screamed in pain. Unlike Allosaurus Torvosaurus have extremly powerful jaws, and was making quick work of the Allosaurus. Eventually the Allosaurus got free and ran off.

A few days After, the Torvosaurus is stalking a herd of Apatosaurus. The Torvosaurus knows it can't overpower a Apatosaurus but, with the right ambush it would be possible to kill the Apatosaurus. The Torvosaurus waited for nearly an hour, then it got lucky. A juvenile Apatosaurus was feeding from the bushes that it was in. Suddenly the Torvosaurus jumped onto the Apatosaurus, the Apatosaurus bellowed for help but, for some reason the parents were terrified but, it wasn't because of the Torvosaurus. Finaly the Torvosaurus finished off the Apatosaurus. Then the Torvosaurus was hit from the side It was the same Allosaurus from a couple days ago but, this time it had a pack with it. The Torvosaurus didn't bother fighting, and ran.

The real winners of the Jurassic are Allosaurus. They may not have been the biggest killers on the block but, they had speed and numbers soon they would evolve into even more dangerous predators.

Nice story as usual. But one thing, what makes you say lions have a stronger bite tan an allosaurus cause that has been disproven.

see

THE MUSCLE POWERD BITE OF ALLOSAURS.

im not shouting at you, but the total is all caps.

SP, no it hasn't been disproven. Allosaurids in general have weak bites and weake skulls. And don't bother bringing the hatchet bite into this as, that has mo solid evidence to back it up.

Don't know. How about you provide a study for your claims.

Off topic, but that's the paper i showed you guys

:D

In all seriousness, the only allosaurs with a possibly strong bite force are A. Amplexus and Saurophaganax maximus., which rpobably had a bite force of 2 or so tons(Carcharodontosaurus and Giganotosaurus had a bite force of 3 tons, quite reasonable to have those Allosaurs at  2 tons.)

But, as i've reiterated many times here, Allosaurus didn't need a high bite force, as it had "flesh grazing" dentition, in other words it just sheared the meat off its prey. The axe head was cited as not being needed in the "muscle powered bite of Allosaurus"

Skip down to "Further interpretations with the hatcheting interpretation"

In short, The neck muscles of Allosaurus would have needed to act like a person weilding a weapon, something not observed in todays extant predators, nor does the neck design anchor anything close to muscle ligerature. Why would A. Fragilis have a killing technique unknown in any other animal?

"Because it had a bite weaker then a lions" you may be saying aloud.

False.

In that study(Rayfield 2001), the lion isn't even mentioned! Panthera leo is the scientific name, now look at the end results of that paper.

Posted Image

The closest thing they have to the lion is the tiger (Panthera Tigris) which had a bite roughly ~910 kg(2,006 lbs/ 1 ton)

A bite weaker then a lion's was merely a media invention.

Nature doesn't deceive us; it is we who deceive ourselves.
