Godzilla, no doubt, but, 95% of all his version would beat him. If they do Godzilla Showa and Gamera Showa, it might be close. But, if they do Godzilla Showa vs Gamera Heisei, Godzilla loses. KiryuGoji would lose and MosuGoji would lose this as well. LegendaryGoji is used then Gamera loses because, The meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs landed next to him, Atomic Bomb right next to him as well, and it just powers him up! Gamera cannot and won't win. They will get so much hate if they do make him win

I don't know jack about Gamera, I've only seen maybe...3 movies, so I'm far from an expert.

However when he opened up his stomach and did his giant fire blast, the after effects were pretty hardcore. Any Gamera fans here know what the big turtle is really capable of?

@DURATOK Well, I'm no hardcore Gamera fan, but I do know that the attack you're referring to (the Mana Blast) was the most powerful attack he's ever used, and the monster it destroyed, Legion, was harmed by missiles earlier on and had to use a force field to stand up to a military assault, so that doesn't really say wonders about his firepower. Really, if he wants to stand a chance against Godzilla, he'll need to stick to his physical attacks, and even there, the big G outmatches him... the odds are against him, to put it lightly.

@Linkzilla That's more of the large Legion creature not wanting the annoyance of missiles hitting it. The monsters in the Gamera series are just as resilient as any from the Godzilla series. They're just not as used to being surprised by military assaults. None of them have ever actually taken any real damage from military attacks. It's like getting bombarded with mosquitoes, and putting up defenses to stop them.

If they happen to get the jump on the monsters, the monsters react a bit more. It's simply a lack of experience with military ordinance, and not preparing to simply ignore them. That, and being preoccupied with other giant monsters tends to throw off one's game if hit by a sudden surprise mosquito attack.

I've all the Gamera movies. Being a turtle, he had a very limited fighting style. He mostly sticked to his fire blasts. He did fight a little with his hands. Usually slapping the monsters or punching them.

He could also go into his shell and where the legs and arms were would become rockets, for all intents and purposes. He would then start spinning like a frisbee, making the rocket fire bend, making him look like a flying saucer. Sometimes he would use this and hit other monsters and knock them down. He also had another way of flying. His legs would go into his and become rockets, while his arms morphed into plane like wings. This was only present in the Gamera Trilogy and would be no use against Godzilla.

When Irys in Gamera: Revenge of Irys, stabbed Gamera's hand absorbing his power. Gamera shot his own arm of in order to stopping Irys from taking his power. Irys's tendrils (similar to Biollante's, except with a blade) opened up and fired Plasma Balls. Gamera's arm absorbed them and began a firey hand. He stabbed it into Irys, grabbing the girl that Irys absorbed to increase his power, making Irys explode killing him.

That was another powerful move from Gamera that could turn the tide in a fight against Godzilla. He'd use the Fire Hand or the Mana Blast to atrack Godzilla. Knowing Godzilla, he would destroy Gamera. Any version would destroy him. In a fight Gamera would have only one option if he wished to defeat Godzilla. He would self destruct.

In the beginning of Gamera: The Brave, the old Gamera was fighting three Gyaos. He was losing to them, for he was old and couldn't fight the way he used to. When the Gyaos converged on him and attacked him started to glow. Right as the Gyaos got close he exploded, leaving only a small island of rock. Even this wouldn't stop Godzilla. Many versions of him are known to withstand much more than that. One Godzila that comes to mind is LegendaryGoji. He withstood the meteorite that caused the extinction of the the era he lived in. The meteorite hit extremely close to him. He also withstood several nuclear bombs. All the bombs that were used in the Pacific Nuclear tests. Like I said before, Godzilla would destroy Gamera. There is nothing Gamera could do to stop Godzilla.

Godzilla is called the King of Kaiju for a reason. Not because he always loses but is always intelligent and powerful when overcoming his enemies. Gamera might give Godzilla a decent fight, but when you think about it, your pitting a giant turtle against an alpha predator who survived TWO asteroids that nearly wiped out all life on earth and bombs that were hundreds of kilotons and a 15 megaton bomb. Can you imagine Ganera surviving that, NOPE. So yes, Gamera is powerful and intelligent, but his fireblast cannot overwheln Godzilla's atomic breath. As you've seen, LegendaryGoji possess the hand-to-hand combat skill of an MMA fighet. There is no way Gamera can win this battle.

Remember that chap, I forget his name, he climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. They asked him, they said, "Why did you go up there to die?" He said, "I didn't, I went up there to live."

Godzilla is basically a tank, he's endured LOTS of types of attacks. In the Death Battle, Gamera will open its chest up for the Mana Blast and Godzilla will fire his Red Spiral Ray into it and blow him up. Just my thoughts on the outcome of the battle

Godzilla316,

Gamera survived the equivalent of a modern nuclear explosion that detonated directly into his face in Gamera 2: The Advent of Legion. He's also survived falling from the earth's atmosphere in Gamera: Guardian of the Universe and, like Godzilla can swim through lava streams and exist in a volcano. The difference is, unlike Godzilla, he gets power from the molten properties.

Gamera would probably lose against certain incarnations of Godzilla, but if it came down to a fight between him and the new Legendary Godzilla, my money would be on Gamera. Easily.

Gamera can not and will not ever stand a chance against the king.

Don't get me wrong i like gamera, it's just that godzilla can regenerate his cells quicker than gamera, which would wear gamera down very quickly. The mana blast in my opinion wouldn't even faise godzilla since godzilla lived in a volcano in the return of godzilla 1984, and the major thing is godzilla was born in the heart of a nuclear blast! Godzilla can hold his ground better than gamera from what i have seen, and godzilla has had more battles than any other kaiju to this day.

@THEGMAN123 No, Legion did get one of her wings blown off by missiles from two F-15s early on in the movie. Really, Heisei Gamera monsters in general seem to be closer to Zilla than Godzilla in terms of durability: Gamera himself had to rest in the ocean to heal after a military assault on him; Super Gyaos used his speed to avoid being hit by missiles; Legion, as I said, had her wing blown off by missiles; and Iris, iirc, when dhe was attacked by F-15s, slowed down to get behind them rather than just firing some sonic rays at them, suggesting that she, too, was at risk from their weaponry. So, once agin, the Mana Blast may not be as impressive as it looks.

@GMAN2887 I don't think that you're remembering that scene from Gamera 2 very well. I mean, yes, he did technically survive that explosion, but, practically speaking, he was pretty much killed by it. He was completely incapacitated and on the brink of death, and only came out of it alive because he was healed by Asagi's psychic amulet thing. Godzilla, on the other hand, was not only stated to be impervious to all human weapons, including the H-bomb, by the characters and the creators of the 1954 film (which is considered by many to have the weakest Godzilla of all), was not only stated to have survived an atom bomb in the 2014 film, was not only shown surviving a 600 teraton meteor impact in a comic that may or may not be canon, but was directly seen, on screen, being completely unharmed by by an explosion more powerful than the one that almost killed Gamera in Final Wars. Probably the only film incarnation of Godzilla that I would say could probably not tank a nuke would be Showa Godzilla, who is still pretty tough compared to Gamera.

Basically, what I'm saing here is, Gamera is pretty much screwed here.

Linkzilla,

If Gamera was "killed" by the blast all you've done is add credence to an idea that Gamera can cheat death and/or come back to life. Perhaps this is the case as Gamera's amulets were purposfully placed for humanity to find, but the point is Gamera did survive it one way or another and came back with new weapons to boot.

Aside from that, durability is not a measure of power anyway. The new Godzilla works as a juggernaut in the respective story he's placed in, but is still rather slow compared to prior Godzillas and was clearly, easily harmed by the Mutos' spike arms. Currently there's no official stat which says the new Godzilla has regenerative capabilities and as much as I love his atomic breath it's not quite the beam that the Heisei or Millennium Godzillas had.

Meanwhile Gamera has a tapestry of plasma blasts at his disposal including flight that is far and away speedier than Muto-- not to mention the ability to summon mana for appropriate trump card moments. I agree most incarnations of Godzilla may be able to take out Gamera, but not all. And certainly not the new one. People tend to forget that Gamera ditches out as much as he takes, which is quite the achievment itself.

I think Heisei Gamera would beat every Godzilla which doesn't have the regeneration ability. Gamera in heisei just always pulled out something new in every fight. First it was the fireball then the mana blast then he had a flame hand from absorbing Iris's blast. I don't think a Godzilla incarnation without the healing would be able to beat him. So most of showa couldn't, the new Godzilla couldn't and a fair amount of millenium Godzillas are never stated to have healing, or at least to the extent it would matter in a fight. Of course Godzilla would stomp showa Gamera in every incarnation, but heisei Gamera is pretty tough.

MemberMothra LarvaeJun-05-2014 11:21 PM

I don't get what gives people the idea that any of Gamera's ranged attacks, except maybe the Mana Blast, would hurt Godzilla. Heisei Gamera's fireballs may make big, impressive explosions, but they still take several hits to kill monsters that can be harmed by regular missiles, so forgive me for being a little skeptical about their power.

The fact that the new Godzilla is harmed by the other monsters in his universe is rather irrelevant, since the monsters of that film, and most Godzilla films, are on an altogether different level of power than Gamera monsters. Besides, he was not "easily" harmed by them; he was doing just fine until they pinned him to the ground and brutally beat him for probably a minute or more, and most likely were specifically targeting his gills, which appear to be a weak point.

The fact that Gamera can fly faster than Godzilla can move is also rather irrelevant, since pretty much the only things he can do while flying are shoot fireballs, which, as I''ve already said, would be useless, and ram into his enemies, which would just lead to what must inevitably happen: he must stand and face Godzilla in physical combat. When it comes to that, Godzilla is not only much stronger and tougher than Gamera, he is also faster. Sure, Legendary Godzilla may be a slowpoke compared to the martial artist Godzillas of many Toho films, but Heisei Gamera is mostly limited to typical slow motion claw swipes and body slams, while Godzilla fights with quick and fierce strikes and charges like a bear or Komodo dragon.

Basically, here's how I see it going: Gamera will shoot a few fireballs, they'll have no effect, Godzilla will charge into him and overwhelm him with his ferocity, Gamera will take flight and continue to make futile attempts to snipe him with fireballs, he will ram into Godzilla and claw at him for a bit, and Godzilla will proceed to turn around and tear him limb from limb. And that was without even factoring in Godzilla's Atomic Breath! The only potential exception I can see to this scenario is if Gamera uses his Mana Blast and it really does turn out to be the ultra-powerful-kill-everything-beam that many make it out to be (which is doubtful, for reasons I've given in earlier comments), but he only used it once in the whole trilogy, when he was in an exremely desperate scenario while fighting a monster that threatened to destroy mankind, so it's unlikely he'd ever think to use it before he is killed, and it takes so long to charge that Godzilla would probably kill him before he could actually fire it anyways.

Heisei Gamera may have seemed very impressive in his own series, where he was fighting against other monsters of a similar power level, but against Godzilla, he'd be punching way above his weight (quite literally; he weighs so little that I kind of suspect he's actually a giant turtle-shaped helium balloon).

TL;DR: Godzilla laughs at the little mortal turtle that dares to challenge him!

You act as though no Godzilla monster has ever been hurt by human weapons. Both Gigan and megalon were knocked down by the masers and by your logic that Iris dodged the missiles thus they would hurt her means that in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah when Ghidorah flew behind the jets and evaded them rather than just take unneeded shots means he would have been hurt by them. Gamera's fireballs would hurt eventually if physical attacks by the mutos hurt the new Godzilla and he was shown breaking through the bridge to avoid further shots from the military that means eventually Gamera's fire blast would get through. It's not as though all of Godzilla's monsters he's ever had trouble with are these heavy hitters. Not like be demolished ebirah the first time they met, it took his and minilla's fire breath to take down kumonga, even a giant ape beat him. Gamera absorbed iris's blast and made an energy claw thing out of it, heisei Gamera literally got a new power up every time he fought someone new.

Again, making a lot of assumptions that military ordinance actually hurts these Gamera-based Kaiju. Losing a few parts of some flimsy wings isn't much proof that those attacks did any real good. Also, those PLASMA BURSTS show about as much, if not MORE power when used on similar objects as Godzilla, like buildings or monsters. The only reason we aren't seeing more of these plasma bursts destroy more monsters is that the aformentioned ones have defenses that can reflect or absorb them. Case in point: Legion's defensive field, or Iris' tentacle motions.

Besides that, it's been shown that two good shots of a plasma burst is enough to take out a Hyper Gyaos, a stronger and more evolved version of the one seen in the first movie of the Heisei Trilogy. Oh, and that healing done after the firts major military assault on Gamera? Those wounds were only caused by the Gyaos attacking with its Sonic Beam. Just because something can't hurt you doesn't mean it can't get the jump on you every now and then.

That's the case when Gamera is hit by Human ordinance, either in flight, or on the ground. All those times, he was focused solely on his target, and was still connected to Humanity, thus meaning he didn't expect their retaliation, and therefore was surprised by their assault. It's like getting surprised by your mouse which just lunges at you suddenly when you least expect it. Also, when he was revived in the second movie of the Heisei trilogy, it was because he severed his connection to Humanity.

@linkzilla and durp004,

guys the name stays the same with each monster in both studios, so it really doesn't matter which incarnation we are talking about here. Godzilla is godzilla, and gamera is gamera regardless of which ever movie from toho and daiei we are talking about. :)

@bigbadben

It definitely matters what incarnation we're talking about in terms of raw power and feats they accomplish. That's like saying the GMK godzilla possessed by angry souls is the exact same as late showa Godzilla that goes out of his way to protect people. The monsters share the same name, but size, power, and feats change with each incarnation. Showa Godzilla isn't shown an ability to heal beyond average until Godzilla vs Mechagozilla in one scene. Heisei and millenium are stated to have that power and it's shown multiple times what g cells and regenerator g1 can accomplish thus I separate them comparatively. This is furthered by the fact they are even stated to all be different Godzillas and Gameras so each version can do what others can't and should be addresses separately

@durp004,

well the only thing i was trying to say is godzilla is godzilla and gamera is gamera, they still stay the same, yeah sure they added some powers to both monsters later on in the series but the fact is they are still the same character in my opinion, but i can see your point as you just pointed out.

I just don't see gamera knocking the king from his perch, gamera and other daiei monsters can't stand missle attacks where as godzilla, king ghidorah, rodan, spacegodzilla, and destroyah have all stood their ground being bombareded with missles and laser attacks. Like i said don't get me wrong i like gamera especially the heisei trilogy, i just don't see gamera inflicting to much pain on godzilla. Even though the showa godzilla may not been giving detail on the super healing powers, Toho kingdom's monster bios say different that the showa godzilla had the super regenative powers, and so does the official godzilla compendium book.

It's all debateable, but at the end of the day these are all movies, people who want to create art, people who need to turn a profit, and people who are not trying to get stomped on. :)

Once again, I don't get where the idea that Gamera could wear Godzilla down with fireballs comes from. I mean, they may cause bigger explosions than many energy beams that have hurt him, but the explosions caused by energy beams are just a side effect of the actual beam itself, meaning they would be a lot more powerful than, say, a bomb that causes an equally large explosion. Gamera's fireballs, however, appear to basically just be big bombs made of plasma rather than concentrated energy beams, thus why they take several hits to kill monsters like the Gyaos that can be harmed by missiles (if they couldn't be, then why would they put so much effort into avoising them?). I mean, I'm not saying they're weak or anything, explosions of that size are very powerful... but, can you honestly say that they're more powerful than nuclear bombs? Because that's what has to be beaten in order to harm Godzilla. And I know somone's going to say, "But can you say that the Muto's claws are more powerful than nuclear bombs?" Well, it's just a general rule of kaiju films that monsters, at least of similar levels of durability, can harm each other with their claws, teeth, horns, etc. It kind of makes sense that very sharp objects made of materials just as tough as or tougher than Godzilla's own body being thrust into him with extreme force could penetrate his skin, but you just can't apply that same kind of logic to what are essentially just big bombs that happen to be coming from another monster. So I still have to say that the only methods Gamera has of harming him are maybe his teeth and claws (I say maybe because they are probably less tough and can be used with less force than the Muto's claws) and the Mana Blast, and I've already adressed why those will not be enough to give him victory. I really like Gamera, and I think the Heisei trilogy is a lot better than most Godzilla movies, but he is just massively outclassed by most incarnations of Godzilla in almost every way.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJun-07-2014 10:05 PM

Um how do you know the MUTOs were as tough skin wise as Godzilla, their one ability specifically made it so they never had to take missiles annd shots from the miltary. The only shits they took were from the helicopter, machine guns. That and as I said it's not as though the new Godzilla shrugged off the missiles as he broke through the bridge to avoid further shots, so seems like your putting a large amount of speculation in terms of Godzilla's toughness.

Linkzilla

MemberMothra LarvaeJun-07-2014 11:31 PM

@DURP004 Well, aside from the fact that there was at least one moment I can specifically remember where the female Muto is hit by a missile and is unharmed, and probably others that I can't remember, there's also the fact that Godzilla and the Mutos share the exact same origin, being natural creatures that evolved in the same way and in the same era, and there is never any indication that Godzilla is significantly more durable than the other monsters of that universe, just bigger, stronger, and fiercer. Sure, their EMP ability probably made it very difficult for the military to attack them, but the purpose (plot-wise) of the EMP ability was not to make it so that the military couldn't kill them, but to raise the stakes of the plot; if they were able to breed, there would be hundreds of monsters constantly emitting EMPs crawling all over the Earth, effectively "sending us back to the stone age."

I'm not "putting a large amount of speculation in terms of Godzilla's toughness." He is directly shown surviving at ground zero of a nuclear explosion. As for the bridge scene, I tried to look it up on Youtube to verify this, but all the clips I could find ended with Godzilla rising up and blocking the missiles; however, based on what the clips did show and my memory of the full scene, Godzilla had no reaction to the missiles at first, but, when some of them hit his gills, they seemed to annoy him like a mosquito bite, so he basically just said "f*ck it" and smashed through the bridge rather than taking the time to go around it. Even if the missiles actually did cause him some pain, that still puts his durability above Gamera, who cried out in pain and fell to the ground when hit by a barrage of missiles.

Besides, your comment was arguing against a tiny and unimportant part of my argument. All I was saying was that, although it is probable that Gamera's teeth and claws are frailer than those of the Mutos, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that he could pierce Godzilla's skin with them. I have still seen no compelling arguments that Gamera stands a snowball's chance in hell in this battle.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJun-07-2014 11:58 PM

Just to point something out in term of Godzilla's toughness in both the showa and heisei Mechagodzilla anchors and missiles pierced his skin and quit deeply. That's man made  weapondry hurting godzilla. Mechagodzilla took godzilla down with mainly his missiles, and eye beams and as for the missiles which based off the explosions are roughly the same as manmade ones and the anchors were able to shoot all the way into his secondary brain which is obviously fairly deep in his body. So the idea that mechagodzilla's missiles, and not just the piercing ones did a large amount of damage and in both showing of him in the showa he had Godzilla on the ropes, it's obvious that eventually Gamera's fireball would have the same effect. The idea that Gyaos would be completely destroyed by a few, but Godzilla would take the same shots and not flinch is putting a lot of faith in Godzilla.

As I said some Godzilla versions would win but I seriously doubt heisei Gamera would lose to the showa Godzilla who in most cases required another monster'a help whenever he fought someone.

Linkzilla

MemberMothra LarvaeJun-08-2014 12:57 AM

Who ever said we were arguing about Showa Godzilla here? This whole discussion seems to have been focusing on Legendary Godzilla. I'm pretty sure I did say at some point that this would be a whole different story if it was Showa Godzilla we were talking about, but this thread is about Godzilla and Gamera in general, and almost every incarnation of Godzilla is simply immune to all real human weapons. Heisei Mechagodzilla's anchors and the full metal missiles used on G2000, for example, may have been man-made weapons, but they were both fictional weapons whose power cannot be quantified, and which worked in a way that seems to imitate attacks from other monsters: very hard, sharp objects being thrust with extreme force. The mere fact that they were invented at all implies that normal weaponry must be ineffective against him, whereas Gamera was harmed by run-of-the-mill missiles. Sure, Heisei Gamera could probably beat Showa Godzilla with his fireballs if Mechagodzilla's seemingly less powerful missiles could harm him (which is strange, since missiles had never been effective against him before then) but that's about it. With any other combination of different incarnations of Godzilla and Gamera, I would go with Godzilla every time.

TheGMan123

MemberTitanosaurusJun-08-2014 4:39 AM

I've no doubts that Godzilla would win this battle, don't get me wrong. However, Linkzilla, I think we're uderratign Gamera too much here. We can't qualitatively judge the effects of Gamera's moves on Godzilla without taking examples from other monsters. And, as per Kaiju rules, relative size plays an important role. Gamera may be a bit smaller, but that does mean he's a faster combatant in close quarters (ironically enough, despite being a turtle).

On a skin-for-skin basis, Godzilla likely does have the tougher hide, but it isn't invincible, and it's not always about being able to simply tank everything. Gamera is a strategist, just like Godzilla, only moreso. Being sheer atomized plasma means more contained force within each blast over the same blast radius than any nuclear weapon at ground zero in a similar radius. They WILL cause damage, even if it is minimal.

Not only that, but they can be rapid fired, and carry enough concussive force to likely catch Godzilla off balance, especially as a surprise attack. It will take more than plasma bursts to take down the King though, I know that much. I'm not saying Gamera is Godzilla's strongest opponent ever, but he will present a very convincing challenge to the throne, being one of the strongest, fastest (for his size), and most intelligent Kaiju around.

Linkzilla

MemberMothra LarvaeJun-08-2014 1:55 PM

I don't think it makes much sense to say that his plasma blasts would be more powerful than a nuke of similar size. There's plenty of "sheer atomized plasma" in any nuclear explosion as well; in fact, they're so powerful that they actually create plasma in the millions of degrees Celsius at ground zero, whereas Gamera's fireballs are just spheres of pre-existing plasma that hap-pen to explode. They still take multiple hits to kill monsters that can be harmed by missiles, and you'd think something more powerful than a nuke would just vaporize those monsters instantly.

I also have to point out that, although Gamera is very strong compared to the monsters he fights, he and the other monsters in his universe all weigh in the hundreds of tons, whereas Godzilla monsters weigh tens of thousands. So, there goes being one of the strongest monsters around.

TheGMan123

MemberTitanosaurusJun-08-2014 2:30 PM

@Linkzilla Actually, lately, the official weights have been changed again and again, so there now isn't any fully official weights for the monsters, which means we make the assumption on general size overall. Also, just because a more visible reaction is seen with hits from military ordinance doesn't denote actual damage. More like reacting more strongly to flies than the likes of Godzilla and his foes. Again, no military ordinance ever actually harms the monsters of Gamera's universe. Therefore, we can't use that as an actual factor in terms of durability and damage potential.

Linkzilla

MemberMothra LarvaeJun-08-2014 4:44 PM

"Reacting more strongly" is a bit of an understatement. I don't know about you, but when I'm annoyed by flies, I don't typically react by screaming in pain and falling to the ground (Gamera's reaction to being hit by missiles), desperately running away from them and ducking behind obstacles to dodge them (Super Gyaos' reaction to having missiles fired at it), or losing entire bloody limbs (What happens to Legion when she is hit by missiles). Those are more how I would react to being shot at. Sure, when Gamera is hit by the missiles, you don't see any visible marks left on his body, but it's pretty standard in kaiju films for the creators to not waste their scarce time and money on putting minor injuries on the suits; generally you're supposed to tell they've been hurt by their reactions, and Gamera's reaction to a military assault certainly indicates that he was hurt by it.
