With a sequel coming in the next few years, we are already left to speculate which Kaiju may or may not appear in the sequel.
Will they be original creations like the Flying Male and 8-Legged Female M.U.T.O.s? Or will they be classic Toho Kaiju?
Let's start with possible Toho kaiju that will fit well with the overall feel that has been established with GODZILLA;
Hedorah could make an appearance in much a similar way as Shinomura did. Colonies of micro-organisms could form the Smog Monster, OR a new take can be had. Perhaps the United Nations develops a kind of nanobot that is designed to destroy pollution (radioactive or otherwise), but somehow the nanobots are also able to assemble in a giant "creature." I feel Hedorah would be one of the better to bring back, as pollution is a relevant topic today.
Destoroyah could also make an appearance in a Shinomura way. Instead of feeding on radiation, however, it would be one of the few micro-organisms from its time that fed on oxygen molecules. They were able to assemble as well to form a kaiju capable of holding its own against a few Apex Predators.
Biollante would be an interesting kaiju to bring back. There are a couple ideas that can work for her;
1) Godzilla's, the Female MUTO's and a venus-flytrap/rose's DNA would be combined by some really screwball person to create a twisted abomination.
2) An ancient kind of flora is discovered somewhere in the world. This flora was capable of semi-sentient actions and preyed upon many kinds of fauna from Godzilla's time.
3) Again, an acient kind of flora is discovered, but here, it is experimented upon, resulting in a semi-sentient plant kaiju.
Now, they're out of the way, let's look at possible original kaiju;
Shinomura- Perhaps more Shinomura are discovered? This thing looks like it would be amazing on the big screen.
M.U.T.O.- Perhaps some of the eggs survived? Or perhaps there are more discovered? This isn't the best idea, but at least one to be considered.
With them out of the way, what about this?
KING KONG- With Legendary Pictures switched partnerships to Universal Studios, there is a slightly larger chance of Godzilla and the mighty ape possibly clashing once again, US holds the rights to Kong. This is still fairly unlikely, though.
Now that my rambling theories are out of the way, let me hear your theories everyone!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 2:45 PMLess so a theory and more a "I woud like this", Biollante would be excellent. Aside from being my favourite kaiju aside the Big G, I think they'd be able to tie her in with contemporary themes in a way that'd work; i.e. dumping of waste (nuclear or otherwise) and the abuse of nature in that sense could spawn her (because science!), could potentially work. A little hair-brained but by the same token so are enormous monsters. :P
Certainly wouldn't turn my nose at yet more original beasties, in fact it could be quite refreshing for a new trilogy or something where Godzilla is up against all-new kaiju. The MUTO monsters were savage and pretty well-designed - who knows what else Edwards and co can come up with!

Anything we need is realistic origins.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 3:56 PM@CSpyR021- More-so theories, actually, as I am theorizing some possibilities of future movies based on Gareth's style. But yes, who knows what Gareth and Co. will do.
@Joe- Yes. Yes in fact I do, but, then again, everyone thought he'd just squash the Winged MUTO. That didn't really stop the little beastie from putting up a tremendous fight. With a Godzilla VS Kong, size wouldn't much matter. Kong could just use his intelligence and powerful physique to leap from building to building to get a good whick on Big G.
Wtf am I saying? King Kong in Universal's possession is only around 25 feet tall! xD

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 4:56 PMI don't know why but i would really like to see Anguirus in the sequel. I'd also like to see a new kaiju. Maybe put Godzilla vs Anguirus first, then Godzilla vs the new beast and Anguirus shows up

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 5:56 PMThe begining of the movie stated that their are more monsters sleeping underwater, so some possibilities could be
-Rodan
-Anguirus
-Titanosaurus
-Kumonga
But Mothra being a huge fan favorite could also make an appearence. Alien factions are also possible but I almost feel like that would be saved for the hird movie, maybe have Godzilla and whatever kaiju is in the sequel have to team up to fight Ghidorah.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 6:00 PM@Something Real- When it comes to the term "MUTO," there are two ways I use it; The acronym (M.U.T.O.) and a temporary species name (Muto). In the post above, I was using it has the acronym, so I'm confused as to what that bit of your post was addessing. Then again, I'm tired, so that's up in the air.
Seeing a new rendition of Biollante would be fantastic. She was such a great kaiju that it's kind of an insult she wasn't used more. Being the closest thing to a female Godzilla to ever grace the franchise and what not.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 9:51 PMI'd love to see a darker film with less over the top music and Godzilla fighting a more brutal version of Biollante. I thought Biollante's story was a bit crap with the rose and daughter genes etc, but the final creature design was epic!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-20-2014 4:28 PMI'm all on board with Biollante. It makes sense to go in this direction b/c you know people will be chopping at the bit to analyze whatever bits of Godzilla that's left in San Fran.
