Thought i'd post this deleted scene from ALIEN for those who haven't seen/heard it. Why Ridley deleted it from the film, is beyond me!

Space Jockey Warning Beacon

The poster was good though!

Yes ive seen it and we have discussed it before, and my reply was something like that the message seamed to be repeating a certain number of syllables... While there is no translation as the message is well made up language.

We do seem to have HHH, WWW, WWW, AAA, AAA, HHH

Where the letters are just a way for me to show that they are a certain sound and collection of syllables, so you see the starting sound, is also the last sound we then have the 2nd sound repeated twice, the 3rd sound also repeated twice.

for example if i assume First Sound and Last (HHH) is Warning,  2nd is  (WWW) Cargo Compromised and 3rd is (AAA) Qaurantining Ship.

We would have this "Warning! Cargo Compromised, Cargo Compromised, Qaurantining Ship, Qaurantining Ship, Warning!"

While i dont know what those actual words/sounds mean it shows that thre is a series of 3 praises or collections of words/sounds that is 3 different collections, played in the Order of  Collection 1, Collection 2, Collection 2, Collection 3, Collection 3 and Collection 1 again.

Now most Warnings would for us start as either usually (Alert, Caution, Warning)  and usual patern for Warnings or SOS are to repeat and especially the opening and ending.

So for example... Alert! Alert! dont request Predators for Prometheus 2.. Alert! Alert!

So my point being that it would be logical that the opening and last sounds of that Beacon would be some kind of Warning, Alert or Caution.

We can then assume that one of the collections of sounds has to indicate to the Space Jockeys Race, what has happened in which case something about the Cargo being compremised or that some of the Cargo is on the lose, or that the security field or safe gaurds have failed etc.... all that well can just as well be classed as compremised Cargo.

The other collection of Words well maybe this informs the Race of what the Space Jockey is doing with the Cargo, or to warn them do not come near or come to retrieve the cargo etc.

something along those lines....

Like i said thats not a translation of sorts, just that their is repeated patern of 3 strings of words/sounds and what logically roughly what i assume they could be. lol

Thanx AL.

BigDave; "Alert! Alert! dont request Predators for Prometheus 2.. Alert! Alert!" LMAO!

I've never noticed that pattern you mention, but it does make sense that it would be something along those lines. Or maybe it's:

Warning! The pilot as been infected by cargo...do not make any attempt to rescue. Warning!

The poster was good though!

Most compelling! I've never seen that scene! Thank you so very much for bringing it to my attention, NECRONOM 4! That's bloody awesome! :)

i could be wrong.... But I believe that the sound was added in when the deleted scene was added to a DVD release of Alien, many years after the scene was filmed. The original scene had no sound effect at all and just had the voices of the actors and the clicking of switches. I remember sseeing this on one of the many versions of Alien...

Fully agree Necro!

Leaving that scene intact would have added to the creepy/alien feel of the film and make the 'Space Jockey' appear even more perplexing!

Remember Ripley later tells Ash that "it doesn't look like an SOS...it looks like a warning" after she has run it through ECIU.

Lambert is pretty freaked out by the sound of the message...."Maybe it's a voice?" Ridley said, that her character represents the audience member. She doesn't want to go out onto the planet and sounds and looks reluctant when Dallas tells her that she will be part of the search team..."Swell" she answers.

Out on the planet surface and again inside the derelict she urges Dallas and Kane "Let's get the hell out of here!"

She senses that there's something horrendous in store, and that scene adds yet more fear and reinforces the "What the hell is it?" reaction.

I didn't know that and if it's true it would suprise me greatly, given Kane's reaction to it.

ill have to check again. I remeber watching it with and without the sound effect and Ridley explaining to the actors what they were hearing...

As someone who considers Prometheus to be canon with Alien, I will offer my theory: I believe the SOS was intended for other Engineers, and was sent out once the pilot left the disaster on LV-223 and realized he was infected, thus force-landing on LV-426. The SOS was a way of saying "Don't try and save me, there's gonna be an alien crawling around in here." Perhaps the alien that subsequently burst out of the Space Jockey was of the egg-laying variety and got busy in the cargo hold. The Nostromo away team definitely didn't explore the entire ship, so for all we know, there could have been an alien queen or the skeleton of an alien queen in another room.

@TerryHex~ Your theory sounds fine, except for the fact that there is no Alien Queen connected to ALIEN!

The Queen is a James Cameron invention and has absolutely no place in Ridley Scott's ALIEN universe!

Here is wild theory of mine. There was no signal. The signal was created by the company, stored by Mother, and used as a way of getting the crew on the planet. We have no real reference in the films to the source of the signal ever being discovered.

What is really absurd is that assuming the source of the signal is not found, one would assume that the signal was still being produced, so how could an entire colony be created on LV-426 and no one hear the signal?

It is not beyond the realm of possibility that the company would go to such a length to fake a signal, but their android on the ship and lie to the crew.

The derelict transmission was not fake.  The reason the coloney didn't pick up the transmission was because over time volcanic activity damaged the derelict causing the signal to cease.  If you look at the derelict in Aliens one side has colapsed.

Early drafts of Alien had Dallas switch the signal off.  This was unfilmed.

As with Prometheus.... most of the clues are not in the movie....

The Prometheus Viral Site shows us they knew of the signal..

The Weyland Website informs us they knew of the LV 426 Signal prior to Alien, why ASH was on board for.

Here is what was said.. (http://www.weylandindustries.com/timeline)

Discovery of Acheron LV-426

Weyland astronomers discover multiple moons and a ringed planet just outside the Zeta 2 Reticula System, which are possibly able to support life. Weyland expects to travel there within the century.

May 14, 2039

While this states that they merly found planets by astronomy and not a signal, all clues point to they knew about it before the Nostromo was sent there and we have to assume before Ash was placed as a member of the crew....  Also i think i read somewhere David was to monitor a signal on near by moon as they aproached LV 223...

We would have to assume from at very least the Prometheus Mission they company would have known about the signal and the comic also hints of this as see below..

Some errors and flaws to the sites information but its considered to be used as canon, and i guess while some stuff contradicts facts and has errors see below.. we can assume indeed yes they knew of the Signal a long time before Prometheus.

The Comic also shows Weyland sent a probe to LV 223 in April 2090

There other part of the site says this is the furthest they have travelled as of 2073

POL-6362: Jacob Tellis 3249.1 LY Discovered 2071 (furthest a man made mission ever gone)...

Well LV 426 and LV 223 are in the Zeta 2 Reticuli System about 39.5LY away that took the Prometheus over 2 years to get to and that was like one of the Flag Ship Vessels of its time, so there is no way this adds up as the Prometheus would day over 162 years to get to POL-6362

So while the above is a error, it could be that the page shows how far you travel within the Prometheus to various outposts, so you could say travel to every state in the USA and total distance travelled is more than the distance from the furthest two states apart if you know what i mean?

But we have to consider that yes its intended to show us the company knew about a signal on LV 426 some considerable time before the vents of Alien.
