MemberOvomorphMar-21-2014 9:32 AMIs this it, fellas?
An unnamed Ridley Scott film is set by Fox for March 4, 2016.

MemberNeomorphMar-21-2014 11:03 AMI imagined the anouncement of the Prometheus 2 release date would be something that spreads across the internet like wild fire and really gets fans speculating and not some date on one website (Cineworld.)
However, it still asn't been confirmed officially and could be any one of the projects Ridley has yet to begin: Bladerunner 2, Wool, Fae, Forever War, The Asset etc etc.
I will probably get news of it from Yahoo news before it comes up anywhere else. That's usually the case.
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2014 11:27 AMI'm afraid I don't quite follow.
What hasn't been confirmed? This 3/4/2016 release date was fed to The Hollywood Reporter by Fox themselves. I'm even going to amend the first post with the original source.
A Ridley Scott movie will open on that day. That is a fact. All we can speculate is whether it will be Prom 2 or something else.

MemberFacehuggerMar-21-2014 12:42 PMGiven a choice would you want it t be Bladerunner 2 or Prometheus 2?
That's a tough choice if ever there was one. I think it would be reasonable for some announcement to be made soon. To say Ridley Scott is releasing a film on a definite date and not give away anything else is very provocative.
If I was the betting type though I would put my money on Prometheus 2, since that's the one that does'nt really have an official name yet.
Just out of interest is Bladerunner tied into Warner Bros, which is why I'm opting for Prometheus 2

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2014 1:00 PMAgreed. As enticing as it is, this mystery probably won't last much longer. And we have to consider Scott is well into post-production phase on Exodus now, so an announcment about his next directorial gig isn't such a stretch.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2014 3:57 PMA March release date does not seem like the date a studio would release what I assume they would expect to be a Blocklbuster. Blockbusters are ususally released at the earliest in April and then again closer to the holidays Nov. and December. The months of Jan to March are typically where studios send movies that are not sure bets to die or be a "surprise hit". I would put my money on Wool or something else that does not have the following and built in "Blockbuster" petigree like Pro 2 and Blade Run 2 have. Just my two cents

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2014 5:19 PMTrue, a later release date would be a safer bet.
But lets see some recent tentpole films or big-budget sequels that did or will open in March:
Noah
300 2
Divergent
Jack the Giant Slayer
Alice in Wonderland
Watchmen
Oz the Great and Powerful
G.I. Joe Retaliation
John Carter
The Hunger Games
Wrath of the Titans
Sucker Punch

MemberFacehuggerMar-21-2014 7:17 PMAs a famous man once wrote, “beware the ides of March”.
OK Shakespeare, Julius Caesar.
@ Hive Grown
I agree that that the March period is a bit of a testing area.
@Cremildo
Yes, a later date might be a safer bet, and TY for the list, which kinda proves a good point.
The problem I have with March is that it seems to be the time for film critics who have been sharpening their knives and are looking for some target practise before the summer blockbusters.
I think John Carter is a good example of this. It may not be the best movie on the planet, but I generally have it down as a half decent film which is basically a remake of Flash Gordon. Once the critics git hold of it though. It was done no real favours and imo has been over harshly judged. Its a good family film. OK its not the best, but certainly enjoyable.
To be honest most films that are released in March are half decent, the problem is the critics imo.
When it comes to P2, I think there is the possibility that we are looking at a more selective audience than Prometheus. For some this may be a case of once bitten, twice shy. But at the end of the day Prometheus has been a cash cow regardless of fan opinion. Also it has been a big enough cash cow to justify another film.
An analogy I would like to compare with, is the idea that it is sometimes better to be the top team of the 2nd division than the bottom term of the 1st division. Although, I would rate Prometheus and anything after as first division, the bottom line is whether the studio feels the same way, hence this cautious date.
If I am right about the psychology about this, then a March, providing P2 lives up to expectation, would see P2 blow the competition out of the water, which would be a very good strategy.

MemberNeomorphMar-22-2014 3:21 AM@Cremildo; Why do you "not quite follow?" I thought it was obvious that i was referring to that date not yet being officially confirmed as the release date for Prometheus 2.

MemberNeomorphMar-22-2014 3:39 AMAre we really going to keep speculating every time there is an announced date for an untitled Ridley Scott film for fucks sake? Prometheus 2 ISN'T the only film Ridley has got lined up for release by FOX. There are many!
The poster was good though!

MemberDeaconMar-22-2014 4:27 AMAs i said a while back i think Ridley would want to have his say in how the Alien Franchise connects to Prometheus and at his age he would want to get the project finished sooner rather than latter.
A March 2016 date could be correct, if thats the case then surely Ridley would not want to wait untill 2020 before Part 3 comes out... unless Part 2 will be a longer movie and will wrap up all lose ends and cover everything Ridley wants to as far as Engineers and the connection with the Xeno... or...... that they could be filming a lot of Part 3 while they are working on Part 2.
Pretty much like many movies have in the past including Back to the Future Part 3.

MemberFacehuggerMar-22-2014 8:38 AMI have seen Prometheus with audio commentary by Ridley Scott just now... and at the end of the film he says that they're doing a sequel and then another sequel! 'After two sequels", he said, 'we have to think if we continue...'.
- Does somebody remember? - If you don't know what I'm talking about, just watch the end credits of the film with audio commentary by Ridley Scott.
So I hope its the release for Part 3. :-) The best things come in threes.
Prometheus 2 - The Fallen Angels
Prometheus 3 - Lost Paradise

MemberOvomorphMar-22-2014 9:11 AMNecronom4: it isn't obvious because your writing isn't clear enough. Of course it hasn't been confirmed that Prometheus 2 will open on 3/4/2016. That's whole point of the thread: Fox studio announced a release date, but not the title of the film.
And I also think your little temper tantrum is uncalled for. Would you please tell us all those other multiple times that Fox announced the opening date for an untitled Ridley Scott movie? And do you really think that's gonna happen many times in the near future? Big projects take two to three years to produce.

MemberNeomorphMar-22-2014 1:21 PM@Cremildo; "The whole point of this thread?" There is no point to this thread! There is already a thread about this subject on the news page.
And what isn't clear about, "it still asn't been confirmed officially and could be any one of the projects Ridley has yet to begin: Bladerunner 2, Wool, Fae, Forever War, The Asset etc etc?"
You are making a HUGE assumption that this mystery project with a release date of March 2016 is Prometheus 2 just because it's being released by FOX? I'm affraid i don't quite follow.
He's got a massive amount of projects that he asn't even started yet, some of which are going to be released by FOX. Who knows, maybe it is Prometheus 2, then again it might not be.
So stop gettin so excited and jizzin your pants.

MemberNeomorphMar-22-2014 1:37 PMI will also say, apart from the untitled Bladerunner project which probably won't be released by FOX, there are a few other untitled Ridley Scott projects that haven't got a release date yet which might be released by FOX. They are:
Untitled Ridley Scott American Football project
Untitled Ridley Scott/Kieran Fitzgerald project.
Prometheus 2 has already got a title; "Paradise."
The poster was good though!
Cremildo
MemberOvomorphMar-22-2014 2:30 PM"Paradise" has not been confirmed as a final and definitive title. Fox themselves haven't said a word about it.
Yet again, I fail to see the connection of the alleged title to this thread. Are you suggesting that the Untitled Ridley Scott movie Fox announced two days ago can't be Prometheus 2 because you believe it is called "Paradise"?
Please. The Untitled Scott film is just that, a movie that they chose not to reveal the title yet, or one that does not have a definitive title. Just like Prometheus 2.
And those other Scott projects - what's their status? Who's writing them? Is the script ready?
According to Scott himself, Jack Paglen finished his work in Prometheus 2 last year. Of course, he didn't say it was the final draft. But there is a script already.
Huge blockbusters tend to have their release date announced years in advance. Smaller projects do not, and neither those two you mentioned seem to be something big enough to warrant a theatrical scheduling so early.

MemberNeomorphMar-22-2014 2:37 PMHave i once stated that "It can't be Prometheus 2?" If you read my last comment i said, "Maybe it is Prometheus, then again maybe it isn't."

MemberOvomorphMar-22-2014 9:00 PMWool is being directed by J Blakeson, Ridley is only producing so I'm getting a tad optimistic...
Cremildo
MemberOvomorphMar-22-2014 9:07 PMWool could've been an interesting project after Prom 2. Oh, well, something's gotta go. Scott seems to be attached to so many projects in different capacities... He'd have to live up to 100 years to actually pull it all off. Hopefully he will, just like Manoel de Oliveira!
