MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 9:08 PMFrom various sources who saw the 20-minute preview. Each quote should link to the relevant review:
First, there's a big secret full of awesome:
It's about a monster:
It's in the HALO jump scene in San Francisco:
We've been led to believe it's Godzilla, but it's not:
So, exactly what else looks kind of like Godzilla, but doesn't quite match? Is it this?
I think the MUTOs might just be the warmup for the final act: a big Godzilla vs. "Godzilla" fight. Please someone convince me that I'm reading these facts wrong.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 9:21 PMInteresting. I really like to consider that possibility, I love the idea!
That may explain why Godzilla's design looks different from time to time.
Also, by the way, doesn't the form and orientation of those spines remind you of a certain very controversial Kaiju...

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 9:53 PMI don't know, to me the idea of two gojis is kinda dumb. I feel like that would be jumping the shark(or in this case the Godzilla)
RF
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 10:01 PMAs opposed to, say, Mecha-Godzilla?
It is way out there, imo, but I'm trying to figure out how else to explain those quotes.
Especially the last one.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 10:30 PMTo be completely honest, I wouldnt write this theory off.
GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 11:06 PMi have a feeling that the last quote refers to something other than godzilla, because its pretty obvious that that is godzilla in the jump scene, this is backed up by multiple posters. what the quote might actially mean is that godzilla attacking is not all that is happening, there coudl be somethin going on down on the ground, maybe something muto related, no one can really say at this point.
king of the monsters

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 11:12 PMMy theory is there are several thousand Godzillas that fuse together into one big Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 11:19 PM@GodzillaHimself
ok, I totally agree that it could be Godzilla. However, I just can't see how that it being "Godzilla vs. a Muto" would be such a highly-secretive plot point. After all, the reviewers ARE talking about other monsters, so the fact that Godzilla is going to be fighting them can't possibly be "400% more awesome". After all, just about EVERY Godzilla movie ever made (exc 1954 & 1998) have him fighting other giant monsters.
It really has to be something more than just Godzilla fighting a MUTO.
But what, I don't know. The reviewer says the teaser is not what it appears to be. It appears to be Godzilla, right? But it's not. It's either "not Godzilla" or it's "Godzilla and something else so big and super awesome that we are sworn to secrecy".

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 11:25 PMThis is what I was thinking, but it also doesnt make sense at the same time. Seriously though ,the way they are saying "OH ITS A HUGE SECRET!" "WE SAW THE HALO JUMP AND THE TWIST IS 10000% TWISTY! HUGE SECRET!" and exxagerating it, why would it just be a Muto they are landing on?
That wouldn't be such a secret to hide, it would be actually VERY underwhelming. THey keep hyping this secret like its the biggest secret ever in the movie "Gareth edwards told us not to tell you this huge spoiler and mega-twist!", if it really ends up just them landing near muto or near the fight, ill be underwhelmed because they hyped it like it was some serious shit. The way they explain it, it only makes sense if it was something like 2 Godzilla's or whatever.
"Godzilla and something else so big", if they are talking about the MUTO, then it's no secret really, we know that already. If it does turn out to be MUTO, i will be underwhelmed by their OVER-HYPE of the so called secret.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 11:33 PMAnd everyone is willing to suggest that huge skeleton is another Godzilla without blinking an eye. Why is a 2nd dead Godzilla more believable than a 2nd live Godzilla?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 11:47 PMok, here's another piece of evidence... what I call, for lack of a better phrase, evidence by omission. In other words, it's what is NOT said that is telling.
In the last quote I linked in the OP, look at these two comments:
"The next scene focused on Godzilla’s first stomps onto American soil as he set about wrecking poor tourists’ holidays on Honolulu. In this extended sequence, we saw Ken Wantanabe watching from an aircraft carrier as Godzilla passes under the ship..."
"That and once the jumpers get lower to the surface of a burning San Francisco, they don’t see exactly what the teaser trailer suggests…"
See what he did there? The writer has absolutely no qualms about revealing clearly that Godzilla attacks Honolulu. But when it comes to San Francisco, he suddenly gets very coy about whether that is really Godzilla or not.
It all smells very fishy to me. It's also very possible that the teaser trailer is intentionally misleading and that Godzilla was placed into the scene specifically for the teaser.
GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 12:21 AMinteresting, so are you saying that godzilla was basically the "stand in" for something else in that trailer?
king of the monsters
Gojira 2014
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 12:26 AMHmmm I 200% disagree with RF on this theory. The train scene could just be a MUTO who has spikes and besides those are too small and diffrent shaped to be godzilla's spikes. And your statement about the halo jump made no sense at all. Your proof i'm afraid...is not enough.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 12:43 AMI swear to god, if there are two Godzillas running around with the Mutos, I'm going to fucking livid.
Even having a skelleton of an old one kinda irks me.
I want to see something along the lines of the Original Godzilla film. Not Godzilla: Final Wars FFS.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 1:14 AMI can't really explain why, but for some reason it'd bother me also if there was another Godzilla present in this film. The skeleton from the trailer, if that does belong to another Godzilla, also bothers me, and I'm not sure exactly why.
Maybe it just seems to me that he should be the one and only Godzilla at this point, with no lesser clones, and should fight against only the MUTOs and humanity, not against one of his own kind.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 8:00 AMGuys, ultimately -- I don't know. I am just trying to figure out what best fits the disparate hints we've been given from different reviewers.
There seems to be a consensus about a huge surprise in the SF Halo shot, and it's almost certainly not a MUTO.
Please note that I'm not saying it's exactly another GODZILLA. I think it's more likely to be a Godzilla-type of kaiju.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 8:06 AMI recall another post on this forum (which I can't find) where someone linked the image of a bust of a supposed Godzilla before the trailer came out. There response from Legendary (or the director) was "that's not our Godzilla".
Does anyone know what or where that image is? Didn't it have a kind of alligator snout?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 8:27 AMMy idea is that the HALO jump scene is part of the climax. I DID read something along the lines of a huge surprise in the movie somewhere, particularly near the end of the film. But I think a Godzilla vs Godzilla fight would be kind of a ripoff (at least if they looked the exact same). Perhaps there is a true big bad that is revealed towards the end?
This theory seems to be similar to the "Star Wars Episode 3" thing where Anakin was part of the climax, and not a completely different "thing" from Obi Wan. It sounds confusing, but I just wasn't too fond of that idea.

-You know, that is actually a a pretty good point. I have thought about this when reading descriptions of the 20 minute sneak peak, and it seemed too late to go as far to call a fight with the Mutos spoiler material. If it was the bigger Muto that Godzilla was fighting, then why would it be so "spoilery" considering how the embargo date ends in less than 2 weeks. Hmm... interesting

MemberBaragonMar-06-2014 9:42 AMI think the 400x more amazing quote could mean a number of things, but I'd put it more along the lines of a potential very close homage to an old foe rather than 2 Godzilla

Godzillasaurus
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 9:50 AMWell they did say something along the lines of Godzilla fighting SOMETHING. And that is why I have doubts about the big surprise being the 8 legged Muto, because we already know what it looks like
Durp004
MemberBaragonMar-06-2014 9:52 AMIt's been speculated that the 8 legged muto isn't the big boss monster for a while. It's the flying 1 that is getting all the attention, and is thought to hold that title. A lot of Godzilla's most popular friends and foes are flying(Rodan Ghidrah, mothra) so a homage would most likely take form from that monster.
Godzillasaurus
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 11:41 AMI think the winged Muto is the smaller of the two. The 8 legged Muto is apparently supposed to be the brute in this case
TW_G-Fan2014
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 12:03 PMThe last quote means absolutely nothing as far as what the final scene depicts. All it says is that the teaser trailer gave us a glimpse of Godzilla for the purpose of giving us a glimpse at Godzilla. Nothing more. The teaser trailer where we see Godzilla during the Halo jump is obviously made only for that teaser, and the real scene will show something different.
It truly is as simple as that RF.
What you're doing with these quotes is you're trying to force your own desires and wishes to see something that you consider awesome like a Godzilla vs. Godzilla battle into them, and you're misinterpreting the information that's being provided. It's a very common mistake. Also, quotes aren't facts. They're quotes. Facts are literally "indisputable" pieces of information, and a quote can be disputed all day every day.
Observe! (please ;P)
"We also learned a plot point that makes the film 400% more awesome." That's an opinion, and it's got absoutely no meaning whatsoever except to say that the person who it comes from thought the movie would be 400x more epic than they originally expected based on what they saw in the footage. Does that mean there's another Godzilla? Absolutely not. Where you're getting that idea from? I have no idea.
The second quote simply states that Gareth asked them not to talk about the monsters, but this has been the case since the beginning. Ever since the 2012 comic con, details about the Mutos have been hidden and asked to remain confidential. It's nothing new.
The third quote also says nothing about another Godzilla. All it says is that in Gareth's opinion, watching a movie with a monster like Godzilla, most people want to see it fight something other than humans. That's all it says. Gareth believes that most people want to watch monster vs. monster. However, what else exists in the movie besides Godzilla? Muto monsters. There is nothing in that quote to say that there is another Godzilla in there.
The fourth quote, as I stated already, simply states that the teaser trailer's Halo drop scene is different than what's actually in the final movie. That is nothing new. Lots of trailers show scenes that don't make it into the final movie. Again, there is nothing to say that another Godzilla is in the movie in that fourth quote.
The picture you posted just shows a big, flat, red claw/spike of some kind. Does it bear a resemblance to Zilla's spines? Yes, but where are the rest of them? Given the angle, if it were Zilla or another Godzilla, then you would have to see the rest of them since there is a bit of symmetry to both creature's spines. There aren't any other spines/spikes in that picture. The chances it's Godzilla are pretty much zero.
Godzillasaurus
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 12:14 PMIts a theory bro... He can speculate if he wants to. If there is a major spoiler involved (which there is), it is obviously more than just showing Godzilla or not.
Unbelievable Varan
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 12:18 PMI personally think these early screeners are talking about The Muto monsters. Remember the toy leak came "after" this 20 minute screening. I think that these people were just wowed with the BIG Muto in the 20 minute clip, since they had no idea what it looked like including 99% of us at that time. The key to remember is the 20 min screening was "before" the toy

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 1:16 PMWhen they said they were sworn to secrecy about things my first thought was they were protecting the identity of Godzilla's main foe. I know we've been ove rthis a thousand times - there aren't any other classic Toho monsters in this film excet Godzilla - but I'm starting to think that's not true and we will see modern re-imaginings of some classic monsters. We've already seen a good candidate for Rodan diving into the ocean so...yeah...I think when they jump in they're going to get an up close and personal look at Rodan for the first timeas he takes on Godzilla.
