MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 5:42 AMthis is anouther topic that has gfans split, there have been topics before if this movie will have suitmation or if it will be completly cgi. in my opinion i'd prefer a cgi godzilla, not because it is more new than suits or that it gives a more real looking godzilla, it's because you can make godzilla do more in terms of his fighting style and movement for example if you look at how his tail moves in the toho movies it just flaps in an unatural fasion, but cgi can make his tail move like it does in the recent godzilla games. also cgi can make the destruction godzilla causes to be more realistic as well, fire on skyscrapers and the dust from destoyed buildings like cloverfield did.
also i don't understand the anger against cgi by hardcore godzilla fans, did you really expect a godzilla movie by an american film company aimed at a general audience was really going to have suitation, something that is ridculed and not taken seriously by non godzilla fans.
if toho was to produce godzilla movies after legendary/warner bros has finshed with their godzilla movie(s) then i hope they 1. use cgi 2. don't rush it like they did with the millenium series. some of you guys might think that toho is shit at cgi, well i think if they do not rush their movies in production like they did with godzilla 2000 or final wars, they can make a good story and have good cgi, also they have had a lt of practise with cgi it's not the best but with time taken with it i belive they can make a good cgi godzilla, also they could use legendary or who ever handles the american godzilla sequels for help.
what do you guys prefer, CGI godzilla or Suit godzilla

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 5:50 AMI personally prefer suits but only for its time. I don't mind CGI and I am happy that the new movie is a CGI Godzilla as long as it looks good and realistic. If TOHO decides to make more movies I think they should do CGI Godzilla movies because suits are so outdated. But then again TOHO isn't very good at CGI so maybe they should stick to wearing suits but like you said, maybe if they don't rush the damn movie in post production and get the help from some good VFX artists, they could make some pretty sweet CGI effects for a Godzilla film. I only like CGI when it's done well. If it is done crappy, then practical effects are they way to go.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 8:19 AMI remember reading that even the 1998 TriStar Zilla had a suit form used for a few scenes, despite being mostly a CGI monster. Below is one of a few pics I've found that shows the suit in question...
...so the 2014 American Godzilla could easily be the same deal, a lot of its scenes are CGI but a couple would be the suit.

MemberBaragonFeb-14-2014 8:29 AMI'm fine with CGI. I'll always love practical effects, and suitimation could be used too, but for any scenes that display a lot of movement CGI needs to be used.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 8:34 AMreally they were going to use motion capture but decided not to because it looked too much like 'am man in a rubber suit', if they wouldnt use motion capture becuas it looked like suitmation, i doubt they used a suit, also i thought roland emmerich didnt like suitmation.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 12:02 PMTRUE AMERICAN GODZILLA I own a book "Making of Godzilla" from 1998. It has many pictures showing the suit.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 12:16 PMI personally prefer the versatility and overall look of CGI, but I still have the utmost respect for those that can make suitmation look good like Toho. Still, if they begin making movies again, I really hope they take their time and imput some CGI into the mix, for a more fluidly moving Godzilla. On the topic of Toho making monster movies in the future, I really hope they make something for Mothra like her movies in the 80's/90's (can't remember which specifically), as those were a big part of my childhood alongside Godzilla. :)

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 12:22 PMi do respect the suits, but it is outdated, i remember reading an article that was about sauitmation and cgi, it tells that things like ultraman is gearing more towards cgi and that Eiji Tsuburaya would've gone towards cgi if he were alive (stated by someone invloved in Tsburaya studios)
