MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-05-2014 11:18 PMSo I've been looking every where on the internet to find out who has the rights to Godzilla once the movie is made. And on one page, which I will link here once I find it again.. indirectly says that there will only be ONE movie made.
and I continued to search and I found that the word "movies" or "films" were not used, but the words "film" and "movie" were.
While I do know that it's more than likely that Warner Brothers or Legendary will continue to make movies should the 2014 movie be successful. Like 500 million dollars successful.
I also found a page that said that Legendary left the rights to any future Godzilla movie at Warner Brothers.. I'm not sure exactly how things work with movie rights, but I'm sure they'd need Toho's consent for that, no? And it was only one site that reported that, I couldn't find anything else on it.
I'll link the sites in a post on this topic.
GODZILLA HIMSELF

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-06-2014 10:12 AMI hope legendary does keep the rights to Godzilla because Ive read that Legendary will be partnered with Universal another successful film company.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-06-2014 11:44 AMNot too sure what the significance of all this would be at this point. Things like this can change at any time as we continue forward. Right now, there is only one movie planned, but if it does well enough I see no reason why Legendary will not pursue further installments with Gareth at the helm. He's clearly got plenty of ideas to work with, and as an avid Godzilla fan we know he'll treat the Big-G right.
I say wait and see. Once the movie's come out and we know for a fact how well it's done, it likely won't be long before we find out exactly what Legendary has planned for the big guy.

AdminGodzillaFeb-06-2014 12:54 PMNegociations for Godzilla's future can be discussed after the movie if it does well. Right now I'm not even concerned about it. I'm more concerned about this movie and if it's even worth having a sequel to. All signs point to yes, but lets not jump the gun anyway. One film at a time.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-06-2014 1:34 PMi agree with GMAN2887 we should disscuss this after this films release preferably a month.

you do realize that mr.banno is planning a godzilla vs hedorah 2 right? but you make good points im not even going to argue about that because final wars even though i did enjoy it a little they still done nothing with him

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-06-2014 3:42 PMbanno DIDN'T say he was making a GvsH2, he said he would LIKE to, also what gives him a right to make a sequel of one (although dark) 70's cheesy godzilla movies, there are other godzilla movies that deserve a sequel more than hedorah. also his idea is just the worst idea for a modern godzilla movie.

MemberBaragonFeb-06-2014 3:45 PMyeah i guess your right about that but no offense my friend i still prefer to watch some of those old movies over some others just because i grew up watching them and im sure you did too. Also it would be nice to see the old gigan make a return in a huge way and possibly megalon or even varan

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-06-2014 4:22 PMpeople say warner brothers will not make any more movies with legendary this will be their last film together i heard it on youtube

Banno got the rights to use Godzilla and Hedorah after Final Wars, but Toho told him they wouldn't fund or produce it. Since then Banno has actively tried to find funding for Godzilla vs. Hedorah 2 for the last 10 years. No one wanted to do it, except Legendary, but they wanted to make their own Godzilla movie. Godzilla vs. Hedorah 2 will most likely never happen and if it is made it will be an independent production. Not a Toho production.
@Godzilla1990'sRules
As of right now this is the last movie between WB and Legendary. However, right now, if a sequel were to be greenlit it could only happen if WB and Legendary agree to work together again. This means that both studios may have to renegociate their rights with Toho if they want something to happen differently. Toho is the parent company in the Godzilla agreement and they have to okay everything.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-06-2014 7:00 PMThe idea of Legendary teaming up with Universal to release future Godzilla films is cool and makes a lot of sense when you consider Universal's history with movie monsters including classics such as Dracula and Frankenstein. They own the rights to all those monsters and now Godzilla will be affiliated with that classic roster as well. I just hope that Godzilla's success at the box office doesn't turn into some stupid legal battle down the line as to who has the right to the next film. I could see a scenario where Warner's legal department finds a dumb reason to take Legendary and/or Universal to court and before you know it the case is mired in a long legal battle. Hopefully that won't happen.
