MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 5:50 PMEver since the release of the "official" (dunno if it's legit or not), Godzilla 2014 figure, people have been whining...
"HE'S TOO FAT!"- um, EVERY Godzilla is fat! Do you really want a giant toothpick as Godzilla?
"HIS TOES ARE TOO STUBBY!"- Do you want Godzilla's toes to break from his immense size and weight?
"HIS SPINES ARE TOO SMALL!"- So what? How does that hinder a Godzilla???
...
Sooo, what you're saying is that your want your Godzilla to look like this:
Mmkay.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 5:59 PMI agree. And the spines arent that small, as we have seen in the trailer. I like that he is fat, and i love the feet.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:02 PMI think this is the best design of a Godzilla. And I don't his spines are too small, his feet are kind of cool looking, and He doesn't look fat, he looks muscular.

MemberBaragonJan-27-2014 6:12 PMHAHAHAHA!!!! :D Well said! I've just about had it up to here with people complaining about what is obveously a great design. Zilla wasn't Godzilla-ey, enough (a.k.a. AT ALL!), so this movie promised a Godzilla true to the original, but designed with some realistic aesthetics. And guess what... that's EXACTLY what they did! That said, here's what I have to say to add to what you already layed out:
#1: Too Fat-skinny Godzilla=not good. 'nuff said. See the Heisei design, people. It works.
#2: Stupid Feet-here is one of those realistic aesthetics at work. A creature that large needs stump-like feet in order to not only move without shattering it's toes, but to hold its massive frame up. Plus, they don't look bad at all!
#3: Small Spines-not only did the Shodaigoji Godzilla design (from 1954) have smaller spines than most of the future designs, this is another realistic change. If the spines are an extention of his own spinal chord, like all spined dinosaurs (the Spinosaurus comes to mind) were, than any trauma to them would cause massive spinal damage. It has been theorized that one reason the Spinosaurs went extinct is because their delicate spines were TOO delicate. Even falling over could damage them, thereby paralizing or even killing them instantly due to spinal damage. As we all know, Godzilla does a lot of falling in the movies, which should hurt him quite a bit. Smaller spines means less damage can be dealt to Godzilla in this film.
Just the facts, man. :)

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:17 PMThe spines on the toys are smaller than the actual film for safety reasons.. LOL

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:21 PMI don,t mind the spines too be small Edwards wants his Godzilla too be liek the 1954,s so the spines are okay in the movie there going too be big not big not too small but the spines on Godzilla for the toys are going too be small or not.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:22 PMI love how alot of people now start saying how true this is after it is pointed out what they were complaining about...they wanted Zilla all along...traitors...jk
It's funny though!
Danzilla93
MemberBaragonJan-27-2014 6:22 PMI know, but the spines are still comparatively smaller to other Godzilla designs. Take a look at the poster. Their bigger than the toy by a substantial margin, but still smaller than the spines of most Godzilla suits. That's what I was talking about.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:23 PMKids can hurt themselves with spikes like the actual Gojira in the films. That's why only collectible items and a few others have the larger sized spikes on it. They put out shortened spikes for kids. Parents won't allow their young kids to get the large sized spikes anyways. Plus, the toy design they released isn't a collectible. So there ya go

Im not trying to be a smartass or anything ok but this is basically what all the whiners want
And besides, its a figure, figures barely ever look relavent to what they look like in movies
Danzilla93
MemberBaragonJan-27-2014 6:27 PMI know I wouldn't! :) Super film accurate figures are for adult collectors, not for children. Especially when they have pointy bits.

Akio123
MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:46 PM@ALFOK, Don't worry about that. Zilla's size was so varied and non calculated its ridiculous. One moment his mouth is bigger than a military helicopter, the next moment its the lenght of a taxi.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 6:51 PMGodzilla's new design isn't a suit, and it's not a fucked up version that Toho makes complete fun of in more than one Godzilla Movie
I'm really stoked to see what visual effects could turn the King Of Monsters into. Nothing we've seen yet is really valid, the only images that give us a general idea are the ones from the trailer. The toy models aren't officially released yet through the companies partnered with this film and/or Toho (I think they have some sort of involvement with this film, unlike the 1998 one) So therefor, I don't trust the design I seen, if anything it's a rough draft, and if I remember correctly that toy was awaiting approval from the licensor. It's 2014, I seriously don't think they're going to fuck up G's design a second time. Legendary and Warner didn't pick up this movie for the fucks of it, they picked it up because they can see the market value in the franchise. Which leads me to believe this is just the first of modern G films
:)

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:05 PMHoly freakin Godzilla, Its like no one has seen the goddamned trailer!
Number 1, in the trailer his spines are big.
Trailer with tweaked lighting exposure here for those who are still iffy.

Second, his size bieng "fat" Is probably also the case with the spines. Its a child's toy its not meant to faithfully represent Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:10 PMIt's not a Black n white discussion. People like the new look, other do not.. not going to appease everyone every time.. there's two sides to every single 'Godzilla' look out there, I'm sure.
Does not inherently mean that if you're against a new design you're a 'whiner'. I for one, do not like the look of the feet.. that's just My view point.. whether the reasons are asthetic or for practical purposes isn't the point.. I just do not 'like' them. I certainly ain't going ape shit about it. :)
I also had hoped the fins would be a bit more spread out and not standing straight up... but oh well.. I'll save my final impressions for after I've seen the movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:18 PMWhile some people's criticisms can go too far, I find it curious how someone can tell others to "stop whining" when they themselves have never seen one good frame of this Godzilla in action. How can someone be so blindly good with something they haven't even witnessed? And yes, I would say the same towards anyone who has trashed this Godzilla as well.
For anyone to have an empassioned feeling one way or the other at this point is really jumping the gun. Let's wait and see how the Big Guy looks in action, how he moves, how he sounds, etc. before we pass final judgement on how awesome or terrible he is.
All I know that I cannot wait to see this movie -- little stubby feet and all. :)
Akagi
MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:21 PMThey forget that its a children's toy.
Yeah he looks a little squished and toned down because they know five year olds are going to be putting him in their mouth.
But either way, Danielle, thanks for re-affirming how awesome you are.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:28 PMI don't mind the feet at all, the spines are fine. This Godzilla is not going to look fake and rubbery...i.e. the spines won't be wobbling around. I agree wholeheartedly with this thread.
Gojira113
MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:29 PMplease, Godzilla looks great, but looks nothing compared to any of the classic godzillas and his spines were always big (except the showa and final wars godzilla). plus, not saying i have a problem with the feet but you and every other godzilla fan have seen the concept designs at comic con,u know that those are nothing close to any of CLASSIC designs. Its just my opinion though, but Godzilla looks GREAT.

AdminGodzillaJan-27-2014 7:35 PMI think telling everyone to stop whining is a little high-and-mighty of anyone in the fandom.
I like the design myself, but G-Fans have every right to complain about one thing or another in the fandom. Sometimes they can be unreasonable, but I don't think a lot of the complaints are unreasonable. It's like people who complain about the design/suit in Son of Godzilla, for example. A lot of us don't like tht suit or design, but it still looks like Godzilla. I imagine some people feel the same way.
For me? I really like the design. I think the spines could be a little more pronounced and I don't like the feet, but otherwise I really dig it. It's easily Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-27-2014 7:41 PMAll I got to say is I love the new design for the big G, his dorsal spines might be small but they might make up for it in the new movie. His feet look just like a meat eating dinosaur feet, isn't what godzilla basiclly is looking back into his origin back before he mutated. At least it looks like the 1954 origonal godzilla and not like '98. His design could of turned out worse, a lot worse.
