What would've made G vs SpaceG better

Now don't get me wrong, I personally like G vs SpaceG but I do feel the movie could've been way better.

Me personally with Godzilla fighting another version of himself or same species should be a awesome battle and basically a even match right? But what we got from this film was a Godzilla species that stood still in one single spot in every fighting match; I have a problem with this. The overall design of SpaceG was great even though is was a rip off of SuperG from the video game, but it was still a wonderful looking monster. I just wish that there was actual brutal and trick combat between him and Godzilla. I mean this is basically another Godzilla species trying to take Godzilla's turf, I mean male dogs flip out on each other if that was even attempted lol. I just wish there was a better battle sequence between the two and maybe connection between the two, like as if they secretely knew each other or have other animalistic instincts between each other.

I think making baby G look so childish was also a huge mistake, baby G never looked decent to me till he was G Jr.

I believe if SpaceG was more like what I described he would be more popular, even in the video games they almost joke that he has to stay put around his crystals to even fight decent lol

yeah the suit actor didn't move much, i would've liked some a fist to fist brawl and i would've liked one simple origin theory, the biollante one is the best one i think and the whole black hole and white hole is so stupid.

Not being made at all would've been an improvment...

Well I've wanted to see a Godzilla movie where he fights another of his own species, this is the closest thing we got

I agree with Gman. Space G is hands down my least of the series, I would rather sit through revenge. It was EVERYTHING that brought the film down, severe pacing issues, awful characters, . . . .baby Godzilla . . . .boring monster fights, horrible music, no explaination as to why Godzilla can use his red atomic blast at the end, Mogera, and that battle in space was THE worst sfx in ANY toho film.

@NPinkham19

All of the above and more. The way to "fix" Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla is to first isolate the problems, but once you get through that laundry list you might as well start from scratch.

This movie is so flawed and jumbled on so many levels that I'm shocked any competant human being allowed this script to be greenlit. Easily the worst Godzilla movie of all time. There's just not anything I can find that was done well in this movie...

The movie did seem to be rushed. Wonder why they were in such a hurry to get it done?

It would have been more intriguing if it had the story plot from Godzilla unleashed where SpaceGodzilla was shown starting as a crystal creature and not just a Godzilla crystal clone that decided to just come to earth.

To me it was always one of my favorites. I always thought that SpaceG's design was cool, and I liked the battles.

FOR SCIENCE OF COURSE!

It certainly did feel rushed, which explains almost any flaw when a film fails, but this is a whole different level of incompitence:

- Project T - What use did this have for the story? The idea to control Godzilla was interesting, but it never works and it never plays into the final battle. When you write something to take up this much of the movie their should be some sort of payoff for it during the final act. There is literally zero reason for Project T to be in the story except to have the Japanese mafia use it... which also had no purpose in the story. It had no bearing on the final act either. That entire Project-T story arc could have been left out of the movie and it wouldn't have made a lick of difference on anything that happened. It literally a waste of 20 minutes in the film.

- Miki Seagusa - For the first time since Godzilla vs. Biollante she's given something more relevant to do... or atleast the movie is trying to trick us into thinking that. There's a bad love story revolving around her and... why did the Japanese mafia need to kidnap her? Other than to force a rescue attempt anyway... Not to mention Megumi Odaka does the exact opposite thing she's done in the previous movies and underacts instead of overact. And why do the Cosmos thank her for saving the Earth? Godzilla and the crew for MOGUERA did all the work. She does nothing except help Yuki and Koji, but she certainly didn't have a hand in saving the Earth.

- Yuki - Why does he suddenly like Godzilla by the end of the movie? Supposedly Godzilla "saved his life" during the battle, but we all know that was accidental. He would have as well. The entire movie builds up how much he hates Godzilla to the point where he actually manuevers MOGUERA to attack Godzilla instead of SpaceGodzilla. (Which was dumb anyway, he should've known the other two would try to stop him.) The way Yuki decides Godzilla is a "wonderful creature" at the end is about as contrived and stupid as it gets. There's no development throughout the movie to make him believe that. He simply decides he doesn't hate Godzilla anymore at the end because the movie needs him to.

- Godzilla's Armpit - So we're supposed to believe that Godzilla has a soft spot under his arm that a bullet can penetrate... and the military and other monsters somehow missed this in the last five movies? Right.

- Blood Bullet - Yuki's bullet had a very detailed explaination for how it worked... so what? It just goes away and we never hear from it again? It's like Project T, it's a plot point that's made a big deal out of early in the movie and then just dropped. Nothing happens with it and there's no payoff with it. Was he not going to try again? Why didn't he try an install a weapon like that on MOGUERA if he was going to disobey orders and attack Godzilla anyway? Besides, how does he know Godzilla has a soft spot under his arm? Why hasn't G-Force exploited this?

- The Astroid Battle - Need I say more? It's 1994. There's no excuse for a Godzilla movie or other tokusatsu, television or film, to have this poor of special effects. The monsters look tiny, the astroids are goofy, the lighting is way too bright... this scene was doomed upon filming.

- SpaceGodzilla - Annoying, overexplained origin that leaves out any mysteriousness about the creature. Infact the writers gave two explainations for him: Biollante going into space and Mothra with Godzilla's flesh on her. Why do we need multiple explainations? Why do we need this much information? Leave some of this unexplained so it adds a layer of creepiness to the movie. Meanwhile, SpaceGodzilla's design is cool, but the suit is awful. It barely moves, I don't think we ever see it actually walk forward and it lacks the animatronic facial movements that Godzilla has. Not to mention all of its powers are based on long-range beam attacks. The monster was practically made for lots of lightening and hardly any physical attacks. And anyone notice how the spikes on his back also looked like styrofoam icecubs? Was not impressed...

- Fairy Mothra - What was the point of the Cosmos sending out a warning to Miki about SpaceGodzilla? It's not like they gave her any new information. Miki didn't even tell anyone that Mothra and the Cosmos had warned her. The information is redundant and pointless. All it does it tell the audience what they can figure out on their own.

- Little Godzilla - An update of Minya that no one wanted. Unlike vs. MechaGodzilla II or vs. Destroyah, Little Godzilla serves no purpose to the plot whatsoever. He simply gets imprisoned by SpaceGodzilla. And why does SpaceGodzilla imprison him? What's the point? To lure Godzilla to Tokyo? Well that seems pointless because SpaceGodzilla landed on Bass Island to fight Godzilla; why didn't he just kill Godzilla there? It was the most Disney-evil-villain thing any monster in the Godzilla series has done. It was goofy and needless to the story.

- The Final Battle - There's no urgency to it. The MOGUERA crew talk and move slowly like they have all the time in the world to avoid SpaceGodzilla's attacks. It's slow paced, long winded and boring. More than any other Heisei battle this features monsters and vehicles just sitting around, shooting beams. I think around the point where Godzilla bites SpaceGodzilla is when I woke up and realized something different was happening for a change. Even the characters were surprised Godzilla was biting him.

- Fukuoka Tower - Toho is known for being pretty articulate about buildings crumbling. Even the weakest miniatures in the series have a sense of massive crumbling to them. But when Godzilla starts hitting Fukuoka Tower to knock it over... nothing happens. The entire tower is made of glass and nothing shatters when his massive claws slash against it? It doesn't start crumbling until the tower actually falls. Kawikita really blew it with that one. Especially since it was suppose to be the centerpiece of the destruction.

- Recycling Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II's Ending - Because this movie was a gulf of bad ideas and throw away ideas, they couldn't come up with a more creative way to defeat SpaceGodzilla. Somehow SpaceGodzilla was "emitting energy," I suppose because his shoulder crystals were destroyed --the script is too stupid to explain things that matter-- and it causes Godzilla to regain his Death Ray. I'm not so much complaining about the reason he can use his Death Ray again. I just think it's sad the filmmakers couldn't come up with anything better.

There's probably more, but the real problems with this movie lie in the screenwriting. There's so many usless ideas here and plenty more that don't make sense. So many things are overlooked and everything else is just executed as badly. Honda and Tsuburaya were facepalming in their graves when this was released and I can see why Ifukube passed on scoring it.

I thought Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla was the worst movie of the heisei era, however I still think it was a pretty good movie. Spacegodzilla's powers are all based off energy so it didn't really bother me that there wasn't much hand to hand fighting as that's never been a strong point of any godzilla movie. The only movie to do that well in my opinion was Godzilla Raids Again, once beams, lasers and energy attacks came into play that went out the window.

I think the director was going for a showa feel hence why baby Godzilla looked like minilla, and space godzilla was a throwback to the old alien monsters.

If Kensho Yamashita was trying to go for a Showa feel, he missed the mark big time... No wonder he never directed a movie again.

I feel you're really looking too closely at the movie. Some of the things you addressed did turn out. for instance Yuki's blood bullet was used at the end on Space Godzilla along with everything else that was thrown around, so there was at least a point to that, and Godzilla's armpit being weak is just a theory as every movie likes to come up with some sort of theory on how to beat him when he's not portrayed as a protagonist. As for spaceGodzilla's origin I know you have a preference behind the monsters having some mystery, but I'm sure some people like back stories so that's really opinion based. While I found the whole cells subjected to star explosions and thrown into black holes ridiculous too, it was a Godzilla movie so that fact the title included a Godzilla of some sorts from space had me throw my disbelief out the door before the movie began. I don't have a problem with his origin including mothra or Biollante as when the scientists were theorizing where he came from they simply named 2 times Godzilla cells went into outer space. When you are looking for an answer to something and there are multiple ways it could happen of course you'd address both, so I don't see it being a big deal that they talked about both Biollante and Mothra, even if it is clear it was Biollante that spawned SpaceGodzilla just a way to hammer in the continuity of the heisei era.

I don't think I'm looking too closely at all. Even if you took this level of criticism to every Godzilla movie and found holes there are at least things to overlook those holes for. Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla has no such luxery. I think it was Norman Englund who reviewed the movie back in the early 2000s and phrased it, "it's a movie that fails on almost every level of production." I can't disagree because there's so little to walk away with except new toy sales.

I'm intrigued about the blood bullet however. When did Yuki use it on SpaceGodzilla? I don't recall that at all. I'm willing to give a pass to an important plot point in this movie that actually did return. But I know for fact the Project-T Godzilla conroller plot device was pretty much dropped by the middle of the film with no real payoff or point.

And giving a monster an origin is fine, but overexplaining that when there are so many holes in other things that deserve attention is not. It's wasted energy that screenwriters could've given to things that needed expanding. These are still professional filmmakers we're talking about and to show a level of incompetence of this magnitude, for any movie, is unacceptable.
