What's up everybody! Sorry it took so long to come back with this, but as some of you know, I was interested in having discussions for every Godzilla movie ever made. I received enough positive feedback that I am here today with the discussion for the first ever Godzilla movie: Gojira.

Up until a couple weeks ago I sadly only owned the highly edited american version Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but I bought the Japanese version and watched it a couple nights ago so as to be well informed for this discussion. I gotta say it is one of, if not the best Godzilla movies ever.

What I loved about it was the sad, dark tone. It made us really feel for the characters and wrenched our hearts a little every time someone screamed or was trampled. It really captured the horror of the nuclear holocaust as a monster that was getting revenge on mankind. And the story was great for having only an hour and a half. The characters didn't end up being placeholders to move the plot along until Godzilla showed up again. In fact, Godzilla only has about half an hour of screentime. I was thoroughly impressed with almost everything about this movie. Even the special effects still hold up after sixty years!

I don't really have any problems with this movie except that maybe they could have made it a little more suspensful in the beginning with the ship disasters, but other than that it's great.

The american version was good, but after seeing the original, it comes up a bit short. They cut out too many scenes and added too many with Steve Martin. I still consider it a good movie, but compared to the original wasn't as good. However, Steve Martin's commentary really added to the tone of the movie at times.

Overall this movie is my new favorite and arguably the best in the franchise. I absolutely loved it, but what do you guys think? What did you like about the movie? Anything you didn't like? Anything you think I missed? If you liked it, expect the next discussion by the 15th!

I would have to say that 54 is my favorite movie and the best Godzilla movie in my opinon. It made you fear Godzilla and sympathize with the humans. I wish the other movies followed that tone. I hope the new movie holds the tone of the first movie, but on a more epic and relalistic scale(Even though the fitst is the most realistic out of all the movies). That is the Godzilla I like. The bringer of destruction and death.

I have to agree with every thing you both said. And to add I think they could have a better Godzilla reveal. Sure, it was cool, I just think that it could have been more suspenseful. The other parts were they just barely show him, I think were perfect. They didn't just reveal two minutes into the movie. They gave suspense to his attacks, like they weren't sure what had happen and tyed to find it out. And also the original was better than the American version. Just as a bonus fact did you know that the Godzilla: King of the Monsters poster can go for over $15,000? If you want to varify it go to ha.com and look it up. That just shows how famous Godzilla is.

As far as monster movies go, Gojira is way over that category. This film wasnt only about Godzilla himself, but the trail of destruction and tears he left behind. There is a sense of death, agony, and over all fear!!

Thee best Godzilla movie.

Some1 else already started this convo while you were gone, so I'll just repeat the same thing I said in the other 1

Personally, and I know I'm probably in the minority in this, I actually enjoyed the American version more. The narration but Raymond burr and way the movie was paced made it seem like you were really listening to a news broadcast, or reading an article about it with images in the back. While the main characters, and love triangle in the Japanese 1 were glossed over after watching the Japanese version I didn't find that it added much. Not to say it was bad, just that I preferred the American version, I still enjoy and fnd the Japanese 1 very good.
