MemberBaragonJan-10-2014 3:28 PMhey guys on behalf of one of our fellow g-fans and members here on this site GODZILLA3580 I would like to start of with his idea on movie discussions leading up to the new GODZILLA movie to be released
first one GODZILLA 1954
what did you guys like about it and what changes would you have made and what did you guys hate about the movie so lets begin the discussion
i personally loved the first one. the dark atmosphere, akira ifukubes music mastermind behind the military and so on and so fourth, the design of godzilla back then and still today very intimidating, plus i loved his roar the most in this film very evil in sound, eiji tsuburarya's special effects were very good to make godzilla come to life in this film, and just the powerful message it had to go along with it on the threats of nuclear bombing. there is absoultly nothing i would change about this film at all and there is nothing i did not like about it. THIS IS THE ONE THAT STARTED IT ALL AND IS THE BEST OF THEM ALL
SO what about you guys? care to comment

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 4:34 PMThis too is my favorite. It wasnt the first Godzilla movie I saw, but i did eventually own it on vhs. Watched it soooo many times the tape got ruined, but as mentioned above it was thee darkest godzilla movie I have ever seen. As a kid I was terrified. His roar in this film was the most intimidating and terrifying of all the series to follow. The american title was rightfully titled "King of the Monsters".
In my list, this is number 1!!

MemberBaragonJan-10-2014 8:43 PMPersonally, and I know I'm probably in the minority in this, I actually enjoyed the American version more. The narration but Raymond burr and way the movie was paced made it seem like you were really listening to a news broadcast, or reading an article about it with images in the back. While the main characters, and love triangle in the Japanese 1 were glossed over after watching the Japanese version I didn't find that it added much. Not to say it was bad, just that I preferred the American version, I still enjoy and fnd the Japanese 1 very good.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-10-2014 10:59 PMGojiranut, The film wasn't about Godzilla striking back against the thing that created him, but rather the age old "Nature strikes back" trope. Also, The point of the monster was the create a "personified" Hiroshima bomb, to show the horrors of nuclear weapons in a more..easily digested way. Also, the film would be pretty boring if it was Godzilla attacking a nuke.
Now, as for my opinions on the movie? It's pretty excellent, it has a slow, plodding & dreadful pace and atmopshere that really captures the mood they where after. The soundtrack? sublime. Sure, the suit does a look a little goofy at times, but at it's core it's a very dark & somewhat disturbing film. It's the one Godzilla movie I would show in college Film class, it's pretty much the finest film in the genre.
