Mortal after all !

A What David meant by this?

I ask this question because the phrase of David , leads to two questions and make an even more enigmatic third question !

Personally I thought that David made this reference to the fact that he believed that engineers possessed eternal life , and seeing his head explode , David exclaimed "Mortal after all " (as the desire of Peter Weyland , was finding life eternal ) .

After seeing several times the Movie , I was born another idea about this, ( and I asked myself the question : Perhaps, David , was referring to black organic serum that was sprouting of vessels found in the dome , and see it sprout head engineer (David exclaimed ) "Mortal after all " (referring , of the black organic substance was highly lethal or lethal )

What was really Mortal ?

David could have referred to the condition of immortality , he believed , had engineers ?

And why do this exclamation, Under These circumstances 2000 years since his head was "dead" and then to grant to Un certain level of electrical activity, the head engineer "back to life!"

Existed in the engineers, some level of immortality?

or

Existed on the black organic serum, some level of immortality?

What exactly the points A "Exclamacion of David?

David was referring to the engineers' similiarity to himself. He would live forever, but without soul, and he knew the engineers were BIOMECHANICAL, like an android with organic components too.

@ Visionary Alpha
Are you sure about this?
Because David could well have referred to black organic serum "to see david spring from the head of the Engineer, the black organic serum" could have understood that the serum was "Mortal after all"

Nah I think it was because of the fact that the goo was inside his head and that the electrical stimulator was activating the goo basically bringing it "back to life". So by making that slight incision by Ford and sticking the probe/needle in the base of the brain the goo is connected to the host and by doing so it made him look like he was "alive" but its just a nerve reaction. His brain was somewhat still preserved and the goo helped and since they simultaneously started to react with eachother. Thats what David meant by "MORTAL AFTERALL" he was looking at it not in an android way but by the myths and stories about these "gods" of man. In myth mans "gods" and "goddesses" were seen as immortal.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

I watched the animation of the head sceen a few more times. This is by far my favorite part of the movie. One of the best things I have ever seen in a science fiction film. A real masterpiece in itself.

Honestly I do not think the reference to the "black goo" is applicable here. When they apply current to the tissue, the head begins to bleed. I think this is the most likely cause of what’s happening to the Engineers cells.

Also, it would be a bit circumspect of us not to consider that this is another plot hole. While we should consider that the head exploding has something to do with the black goo why is the rest of the other part of the lower body not in a state of high preservation. The lower half of the body was covered by the enviro suit. Artistically I think they just wanted a dramatic effect.

Also, the scientists analyzed the cells at the molecular level. Surely they would have been able to tell from what the machine compared that there was something different about some of the structures in the tissue or the "black goo". The machine as it scans the head is also comparing all the molecules to every known thing we understand about biological structures. This is correct because they would not have exposed themselves to air exposure by breathing around it.

Although once again there is no real way of telling how much of the scene was really about something as simple as bleeding or yes it was the "black goo". However, I am also aware that yes a rapid massive change in cellular division is happening because of the deformations that appear just as the head is about to explode. We just cannot assume that this is not some other reaction to another mechanism that is at the genetic level. One thing is for sure these Engineers are very smart and I mean really intelligent. At the cellular level they might not want another alien scanning them. Seriously another alien could read their thoughts from working out a map of the cellular structures. This could be a defense mechanism to prevent exactly that.

David was able to watch Dr. Shaw’s dreams in real time at the molecular level. There are a lot of wonderful things in this movie but a lot of it is very loosely connected science fiction. Sometimes there is no explanation for some of these things.

This is new to me!

You assert that the phrase used by David, was "immortal after all"?

Because I'm sure David exclaimed "Mortal after all."

You left me with immense doubt!

It's very interesting your point of view, but I must say it has a contradiction!

You say "I do not think David should refer to black organic serum" but

How anyone can say? "Mortal after all" (If the head was already dead!) (Erratic thinking is that you have to die twice)

@Hicks yeah everyone seems to have latched on to the name for the Black Organic Serum as the "black goo".

Even more amazing though is how David is able to bring the stuff abord the ship with out being detected. I think he must have used some of the medical tech on the ship before giving it Dr. Holloway. I am sure the other scientists would have seen some record or log from the central medical computer when he took it out of the container and tested it somehow. It's almost too strange that David just grabs this stuff from an alien planet and just desides to infect one of the crew with it.

@Hicks: I'm confident they're biomechanical, so at any rate it's another good possibility for what David means. I think he knew more about them than he let on, also, and the reference he makes when he says "Mortal after all" (not Immortal after all), is to when Weyland called him immortal in the hologram briefing in the beginning.

Well i feel David made that comment to show that these Gods that they was hoping to meet are nothing but Mortal beings and not magical importals as many religions have then such as Gods and Angels etc.

I think they can not even see my point of view!
I will sample!
If I were David, would have to have seen die engineer to exclaim "Mortal after all"
But the head of the engineer, was already dead (or not)?
It would have been more reasonable to say "Mortal after all" when he saw the hologram of Engineers.
at the time the engineer was beheaded by the door!

is more sensible to think that David said "Mortal after all" referring to the black goo!

Dudes I feel so stupid I really meant Mortal Afterall FOR REAL! I goofed my own logic, f**k me, ahhhhh man Visionary Alpha I effed it up sorry guys. :(

What I meant was that its the goo and the electricity, that some how the goo was still in a moment of transitioning from being dormant to being awake. Maybe our brains and theirs keeps a kind of recording in the nerve firing signals from the muscles. Its hard to answer this one for me but Engineers imo cannot be a biomech thats their technology not their bodies. Would an android have a fully fleshy gray matter brain...I think the answer is very clear. A bio-robot with fake skin cannot fully disintegrate into pure DNA!

Lol Anunnaki, have you been partaking of too much black goo?

No, but if those Engineers are clones or hybrids, he could disintegrate in that way!

Well funny enough i think thats what we have with these Engineers i think they are just kinda clones, and they are mere pawns and guinea pigs for the Elders or their creators agenda.

So yes the Anunnaki tale could fit in with what we are seeing...

so our Engineers could be the IGGI.. which as far as Bible goes could be the Angels, but its often consider they are the Nephlim...

The broad idea of the IGGI was a race that was created to serve the Gods, and they was to watch over Earth i.e the Watchers..

Now it appears to me that our Engineers could be the same, and that LV 223 was a outpost that these Engineers Watched over us from.... untill some revolt had occuried.

Aww Hicky man, I'm glad someone appreciates my humour! :-D

I get your point though, that it's strange having David say that when the Engineer was already dead when they found him!

I think it may just be him being ironic...... Shaw et al, came all that way, only to find some dead "Engineers", who are certainly not Gods! David being synthetic, realises those Engineers are no better than the humans who created him, and that disappointing fact is not lost on him!

That's exactly the point!
It is a contradiction to think that David could contradict!
Having said this!
The logic leads me to believe that David was referring to the black goo.
(David realized that the black goo was lethal!)

You're forgetting that David would have known that he could have "lived" on even if he was decapitated.
